[OPEN] What happens in Hogsmeade stays in Hogsmeade

Who: EVERYONE! Especially you!
Where: Hogsmeade Village
When: Oct. 1-2
Rating: PG (Will change if necessary)
Summary: Get your wolf pack and head to town.
The Story:

Ah, Hogsmeade.

They say it's the Vegas of the wizarding world. Or they would, if wizards knew anything about Vegas. Or maybe they'd say it because they don't know anything about Vegas. It doesn't really matter.

What's important is that Hogsmeade is only a hop, skip and jump away from Hogwarts (Hogsmeade, Hogwarts? Coincidence? Wake up, America!), and is host to a number of exciting prospects for people of all ages, provided you're Year 3 or older. Perhaps you're a professor searching for a stiff drink at the Hog's Head Inn to wipe away the stress of the week's classes? Or maybe you're a hapless student with fresh eyes for the little hamlet, eager to try your first Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks?

The village has something for everyone, with all the assorted businesses a thriving witch-and-wizard town could need: grocers, an apothecary, magical item mechanics, clothiers, sporting goods, bookstores, and the Wizarding Wireless Network headquarters.

Where will you be?

NOTE: If there is a particular venue located in Hogsmeade that is not listed and you would like to add it for people to visit, please feel free to make an addition with a context image and a little blurb so the non-HP savvy (who are those people?) can identify it! xoxo

I said, mind if I buy you a drink? Your choice.

[Dorian's trying to be nice to you, Victor. You need to talk to more people and he's gonna fix that. And be a little nosy, maybe.]

Studying for something?
lifeskills: ([de-age 9])

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-05 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
[The more pertinent question:]

Why?

[Dorian trying to be nice is what's suspicious, and Victor eloquently lobs another monosyllable Dorian's way while staring up at the other boy from under the fringe of his hair.

What does he want? He must want something. Victor's never been popular; nobody likes the kid reading Vonnegut at Quidditch matches or discussing the historical figures of the wizarding world at parties. Victor has become as jaded as a war veteran when more popular students like Dorian come up to him for no reason--usually it's just to pick on him or be a nuisance. People only offer to buy you a drink out of the goodness of their hearts in muggle movies.]

O.W.L.s are coming up.

[Let Dorian take that whatever way he wants; preparing for exams is "one size fits all" answer for everything, and it also makes good conversational filler.]
theothermrgray: (awe come on)

LETMELOVEYOU

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-05 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[He kind of wants to be your friend, Victor. Sure, there might be some backstabbing or blackmail down the road, but with Dorian it's just as likely he'll keep being nice while someone else is in ruins.]

Why? Because you look like you could use some company.

You're always by yourself, never talking to anyone, always buried in your studies. That must be a rather lonely existence, and nobody wants to be completely isolated, yes?

[Speaking of studies, O.W.L.s are a good thing to study for. He probably should be studying himself, but he'd rather socialize. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.]

Oh, well... I suppose studying for that is a good reason to be here. Nobody really bothering you...

But this is a rough place for shady people. Maybe it would be better to study away from the criminals?
lifeskills: ([de-age 8])

harumphs loudly

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-08 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow, how did Dorian know it's his birthday? Thank you, fellow Slytherin, for the gift of this completely unasked for psychoanalysis (which is wrong in some parts and uncomfortably true in others). Victor leans back involuntarily and almost, almost lets embarrassment flood his cheeks.

But then he remembers who he is: fifteen and bound for greatness. He's going to do what no one else can do, and a task of that magnitude requires sacrifices, sacrifices he's committed to that most wouldn't understand. He shouldn't have to feel embarrassed about knowing his purpose.]

I'm not most people. I like studying. [Victor straightens his spine.] I'm asking what you want, not an opinion on what I need.

[He'd thought the same about the Hog's Head, but here someone is, bothering him. Clearly this isn't going to plan.]

If that's true, why are you here?
theothermrgray: (awe come on)

If we had another preppy person here, this might turn into a Charlie the Unicorn video

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-08 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Why am I here?

[How would he awnser that without looking shady? Maybe he got lost? Maybe he didn't know better? Maybe he lost a bet? Maybe...]

At this hour, the Three Broomsticks is so busy it's not worth the trouble.

[Here he sits next to his reluctant companion. Not too close, but close enough.]

It's not a bad thing to have a friend, you know. Someone who can support you in your efforts.
lifeskills: ([de-age 1])

l m a o, god help us

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-10 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Victor frowns. The other boy's as slippery as an eel, answering in a way that doesn't really answer or acknowledge anything he'd said, but still managing to sound polite. He hates silver tongues--particularly when they're aimed at him.]

You mean it's not a bad thing to have a friend like you?

[Who died and invited you to take over his table, Dorian Gray? Displeasure creases his brow as Dorian plops down beside him, one hand resting on his bag like he's ready to leap up and vault over the table at any time.]

I have friends already, I don't need any more. [But you know. Thanks for implying he has none and was lost and alone until you entered his life two seconds ago, that's not condescending in the slightest.] But I don't think that's why you're really here. I have to be getting back soon--skip to your point if you have one.
theothermrgray: (lustful)

CANDY MOUNTIAN, VICTOR

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-10 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[You won't get away so easily, Victor.]

Leaving so soon? But you just arrived.

I could accompany you to wherever you're going if you like. I would like a study partner.

[Normal studies. Totally not interested in your dark magic.]
lifeskills: ([de-age 7])

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-11 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
... Study partner?

[Victor angles his head, doubt still evident on his face. The unexpected request is the only thing that distracts him from giving a knee-jerk protest to the idea of being followed about.

It's the first believable thing Dorian's said since he approached, truthfully. Victor is gifted, that's a fact. He knows it and everyone else knows it (and if they don't yet, they might just hear of him one day, a fantasy of immodest fame he kindles in the back of his mind). If someone wants a Frankenstein to help them academically, he's the obvious choice--his brothers' superior talents end on the Quidditch pitch.]

Don't you have your own friends for that?
theothermrgray: (small smile)

Popular! You're gonna be popular~

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-11 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you?

[Dorian seems as innocent as ever. Yes, a study partner for the OWLs. Then he could probably move on to the darker stuff if he finds the rumors are true.]

You are a truly gifted young man, and you know it. It would be a boon to the rest of us if you would share your talents.

Who knows, you may even be recognized for your genius and not your lonesomeness.
lifeskills: ([de-age 8])

eww, sounds gross

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-12 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Recognized for his genius and not his lonesomeness? As if it's one or the other? As if Dorian knows anything about him? Victor snorts, annoyance deepening. Does Dorian think he's an idiot, so desperate for a kind word that he'd lap this up? It's a backhanded compliment if he's ever heard one.

One thing can certainly be said for Dorian's Transfiguration skills: he has a knack for transforming expressions into glares.]

My talents, that's right. My talents are what will have me graduating from Hogwarts with the highest of distinctions. If I'm to be recognized, it will be on the basis of my merit, not because I spent time propping up less diligent students.

[The beast awakes. The quickest way to light a fire under the ass of a reclusive nerd is imply his success is at all dependent on befriending silver-tongued socialites.]

theothermrgray: (askance)

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-12 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Whoops, didn't mean to be offensive. Dorian is going to try to salvage this conversation, and if it keeps getting worse, he's out.]

Ah, I never said anything about sharing your talents with those who don't deserve it.

Think of the great geniuses who founded our school. Godric Griffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin, Rowana Ravenclaw... Tell me, what do these people have in common, besides founding Hogwarts?
lifeskills: ([de-age 7])

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-19 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
[He twists the side of his mouth peevishly. Hairsplitting. It seems clear to him that Dorian is heavy-handedly stroking his ego in the hopes he won't notice there's an ulterior motive at play. He doesn't care to be thought of as easily fooled or manipulated when his own father has been trying to persuade him to change his ways for years, and with far more incentive to offer than a classmate he barely knows.

And you deserve my help? Those are the words on his tongue, sprinkled with haughtiness, until the other boy poses the question.]

They were considered prodigies of their time?

[Sufficiently deterred from his plan to retort as firmly and cleverly as he can, Victor blinks. Is this a trick question?]
theothermrgray: (small smile)

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-20 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[Dorian smirks, maybe he can save this?]

But what else can you think of?
lifeskills: ([de-age 6])

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-21 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Somewhere underneath this fixed, blank stare is the wail of someone for which extended social interaction with strangers is a painful experience. Will this end anytime soon?]

Are we quizzing me on the founders? I thought you were the one who wanted help for the exams.

[He'd just wanted a quiet place to do his reading while he waited for the hour to pass. How did it get to this.]
theothermrgray: (Default)

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-21 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I was...

[Yeah... This conversation's going south fast. Dorian will have to fold 'em.]

... But it seems I may have to ask one of the Professors instead. I hope you don't mind.

[Dorian gets out of his seat and starts walking away from this agitated loner. But before he leaves, he turns and smiles.]

Are you sure you don't want any butterbeer? I'll be paying for it.
lifeskills: ([de-age 9])

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-24 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's it? [Well, that was strangely anti-climactic.] You didn't even get to your point.

[Victor definitely doesn't mind--he watches the other boy retreat from his personal space and stand up with a subtle trace of relief. He knows perfectly well he can be mulish--it's a chip on his shoulder that's only seemed to grow in size like a tumor the last two years--but still, he'd been expecting more of a fight. At least some kind of reason for the sudden interest in him.

He lets his hand slide from his bag. Does this mean he gets to keep his table? Bonus. He likes this spot, it'd have been a shame to have to flee and give it up.]

No, thank you. I'm... fine, I guess.

[This entire encounter had been strange, but whatever, he won't question it.]
theothermrgray: (awe come on)

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-24 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Forgive me if I made you uncomfortable.

[Dorian will have to try again some other time, when the other Slytherin wasn't so tense, which wasn't often. Still, Dorian would rather avoid a fight, so off he goes.]

Alright, then. See you in the common room, I suppose.

[Dorian idly brushes past Victor's shoulder as he leaves.]
