The Story:

Ah, Hogsmeade.

They say it's the Vegas of the wizarding world. Or they would, if wizards knew anything about Vegas. Or maybe they'd say it because they don't know anything about Vegas. It doesn't really matter.

What's important is that Hogsmeade is only a hop, skip and jump away from Hogwarts (Hogsmeade, Hogwarts? Coincidence? Wake up, America!), and is host to a number of exciting prospects for people of all ages, provided you're Year 3 or older. Perhaps you're a professor searching for a stiff drink at the Hog's Head Inn to wipe away the stress of the week's classes? Or maybe you're a hapless student with fresh eyes for the little hamlet, eager to try your first Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks?

The village has something for everyone, with all the assorted businesses a thriving witch-and-wizard town could need: grocers, an apothecary, magical item mechanics, clothiers, sporting goods, bookstores, and the Wizarding Wireless Network headquarters.

"You don't need any ghostly help." She glances up at the shack and raises an eyebrow. "Let's get this over with."

"Bored already?" He shakes his head in mock dismay. "Then I'll just have to make things a little more interesting." And with that he heads toward the boards he knows are loose enough to wiggle past. May as well stop burning daylight.

"You know me. The easily bored one." But she follows him, because her brother may be an idiot, but he's her idiot.

"Yeah, you should work on that." He grins at her. "It's so hard to keep you entertained sometimes."

[choosetruth]

She rolls her eyes and pulls out her wand, following behind him by a few paces. Between the two of them, she's usually the one making the calls, but when it comes to wandering into a building that, while probably not haunted, probably is practically falling down, she follows his lead. And keeps an eye out for anything he might miss in his eagerness to risk his neck doing stupid shit.

Oh come on, George, it could be way worse. He could be poking zombies with sticks for fun and profit. "I don't know why they keep insisting this place is haunted when no one's heard anything for so long," Shaun complains while they continue to find absolutely nothing but rotting boards, smashed furniture, and dust. "Unless it's by rats and spiders." He glances over at her. "You think rats and spiders leave ghosts, Goerge? I wonder what a rat's unfinished business is."

That would be worse. What sort of idiot would do that?

"Eating the peanut butter that baited the trap that killed it?" She nudges some boards aside with her toe, grimacing. "If ghosts and spiders did leave ghosts, they wouldn't be very big." And thus, definitely not scary enough to make Shaun happy. "But I think there's a certain level of sentience necessary to have unfinished business. Hmm."

She looks over at him, tilting her head pensively. "Think I can get interviews with the school ghosts? Coupled with some research, could make for an interesting article."

"Maybe. It would certainly be better than the non-interviews from the non-spooks that don't live here." He's hoping to provoke a response from any ghosts that live here, but he's not very hopeful at this point. He's come by enough times that he's pretty sure that any rumors of haunting are greatly exaggerated.

"And yet, every time you insist on checking it out." George shakes her head, smirking at him fondly. "Your optimism is inspiring."

[adaptiveimmunities]

"I am an inspiration to the world," he deadpans. "I should probably be on posters or something."

[choosetruth]

"You have a point." George tilts her head, expression as neutral as ever except for slight pursing of her lips that says she's actually putting effort into not smiling. "You on a poster would definitely make this place scarier."

[adaptiveimmunities]

"Inspirational," he says, giving her a mock wounded look. Then a pause. "...Though I would also settle for scary."

[choosetruth]

"The idea of people being inspired by you is the terrifying part." She raises an eyebrow, hands on her hip. "Just think of all those young,impressionable First Years, Shaun. Think about how bad the life choices you would inspire them to make would be. Terrifying."

[adaptiveimmunities]

"I prefer to think I'm inspiring a new generation to greatness."

[choosetruth]

"Great stupidity, more like." She looks around again, then turns back to Shaun. "Had your fill of things idiots find scary yet?"

He sighs. "Yeah, I guess. Nothing happening here now. Maybe I'll come back later. This place is always so disappointing. I have no idea why anyone used to be scared of it."

[choosetruth]

"Same reason anyone's afraid of anything." George starts towards the exit. "Ignorance. They didn't bother to learn any better."

"I guess it's a good thing we have people like you around then, huh?" He grins at her.

[choosetruth]

"You know it." She smirks back. "And you. So get writing that article about how completely lame this place is so they can knock it down already and put up something useful."
