The Story:

Ah, Hogsmeade.

They say it's the Vegas of the wizarding world. Or they would, if wizards knew anything about Vegas. Or maybe they'd say it because they don't know anything about Vegas. It doesn't really matter.

What's important is that Hogsmeade is only a hop, skip and jump away from Hogwarts (Hogsmeade, Hogwarts? Coincidence? Wake up, America!), and is host to a number of exciting prospects for people of all ages, provided you're Year 3 or older. Perhaps you're a professor searching for a stiff drink at the Hog's Head Inn to wipe away the stress of the week's classes? Or maybe you're a hapless student with fresh eyes for the little hamlet, eager to try your first Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks?

The village has something for everyone, with all the assorted businesses a thriving witch-and-wizard town could need: grocers, an apothecary, magical item mechanics, clothiers, sporting goods, bookstores, and the Wizarding Wireless Network headquarters.

"Way overdue," Shaun agrees. "Back door's wide open." He pauses, then smirks a little. "Well, by certain definitions of the word. You can get in, at least, to see the inside of the spooky, dusty, smashed up house. Sound like fun?"

"So long as I have company," Jo concedes, tipping her head in his direction. "I mean, what fun is exploring without someone to share it with? And you're more or less qualified to play tour guide here, right?"

"Well, after two years of coming here almost every Hogsmeade weekend, I'm pretty sure there aren't many people better qualified," he admits. "Except maybe whoever built the place and--" He grins and wiggles his eyebrows hopefully. "Who knows? Maybe they're still there."

She squints one eye in response to that particular proposition, wondering just how likely that might actually be-- but if there were any actual ghosts in the Shrieking Shack, she was pretty sure they would have seen them long before now. Ghosts weren't exactly shy in the wizarding world.

"Alright," she agrees, pushing away from the fence just enough to grab hold of it from a different angle, prepared to hoist herself over and make a break for the back. "Let's see what this place has to offer. Gotta be something worth seeing in there."

"You'd think so," he mutters. It's almost a complaint--sure, the shack has all of the dangers inherent in an old, ramshackle building that's probably falling apart, but that's all he's ever seen there, and that wore thin ages ago. But. "We could get lucky."

"Maybe a fresh pair of eyes will help," Jo offers, almost flippant as she vaults herself over the fence, landing hard on the other side-- though she manages to do so on her feet, at least. "Might pick up on something you overlooked on a previous visit. Hell, the school is full of secret passages, this place probably has a few, too."

"Now that? Would be cool," he agrees. He'd watched her landing for long enough to make sure that she hadn't hurt herself, and would be good to keep going. Hard landings were fine. Landings that twisted (or worse) an ankle were less so. "Let's do it, then."

She grins broadly, heading back towards the loose board he'd mentioned, prepared to slip inside for the first time. She'd seen a number of students attempt it over the years, but had never ventured to make the trip herself-- seemed like she was long overdue to do something about that, especially if she wanted to be able to call herself a true Gryffindor.

She pauses when she reaches the opening, pulling it wider and gesturing to usher him in.

"After you, expert?"

He gives her a quick grin in return. "And you're a gentleman, letting me go first." There's actually no sarcasm in his tone. He lives for turning over rocks and lifting boards (and breaking into haunted houses) just to see what's hidden underneath or inside. Getting to be the one to go first is icing, as far as he's concerned, even if all he expects to find are cobwebs and rats.

He slips through the opening and glances back. "Come on--don't want you to miss all the fun."

"A real Gryffindor should always be brave and chivalrous," Jo remarks off-handedly, following close behind. She closes the loose board behind them just enough that it won't draw any undue attention to the opening, just in case anyone they don't want following them happens to pass by-- like a teacher, or one of the more unsavory students.

"Right behind you," she assures him. "Trust me, I wouldn't want to miss a minute of this."
