( open ) Hot Tub Cinema Party...
Who: Darcy Lewis & YOU!
Where: First Floor, Room 16
When: October 13th in the Evening
Rating: Probably up to PG-13, will update as needed
Summary: Today is the 2 year anniversary of the coffee shop, it's time to celebrate in a not!typical way.
The Story:
There was something to be said for distraction sometimes being the best medicine. The past month had been interesting, but it was time to move forward and celebrate a milestone. The coffee shop had been around for 2 years and somehow was still standing after everything. It had gone through a facelift about 5 months ago and was about to go over another baby one to make room for the celebration. The look of the shop hadn't changed, but there was suddenly a locked door to room 16 as of 10/11 that hadn't been there before considering the shop had previously spanned 2 rooms. Posters were placed all over the mansion as well as a digital invitation in the evening of 10/11, announcing the celebration.
As of the 13th, the coffee shop is decked out with streamers, balloons, and confetti to celebrate the 2 year anniversary as well as some festive luau-style drink options to tie into the plans for the evening. The menu features a lot of frozen and chilled options that pair nicely with the party later. As people start to arrive, there are two dressing rooms available with closets for anyone who needs to change as well as a plethora of towels. Drinks are available both in the coffee shop and at the bar in the cinema room, alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions. There's also a wide assortment of food and goodies that come with a little warning about moderation on all fronts while in the tubs. Once everyone's settled in and the movie starts, there'll be a little bottle delivered to each hot tub for the group to decide whether or not they'd like to add some bubbles to their party. First movie of the evening will be a little more family friendly with The Goonies, the second film, Labyrinth, going a little further on the risqué spectrum. Various pool-type toys are available, including beach balls to casually toss at other people or the screen.

Besides, somehow he doesn't think that a walking, talking robot is going to respond to any of what he's said with disbelief.
As far as Steve is aware, robots are not supposed to feel. Then again, robots aren't supposed to have personalities either, so he's having to quickly adjust what he knows to fit with what's in front of him.
Which is a posing, winking robot. ]
Umm. What kind of entertainment? [ He really hopes that he doesn't regret asking. He doesn't confirm whether he likes or doesn't like what he sees, mainly because he's still trying to wrap his head around it. It hadn't seemed so strange in Genosha, but it does now. ]
no subject
Were you experimented on?
[He has no idea if anyone else from Bucky's world is here and therefore doesn't want to ask if Hydra did it, but he is a little worried in general. He had mentioned being forced to be their soldier, and now Steve here mentions a super-soldier serum? It's a bit disconcerting.]
If you can perform it, I can do it! Music, dancing, acting; I am a wonder of entertainment built for the happiness of the masses!
no subject
In this case, it's actually easier to focus on his own situation, so he clarifies what Mettaton had asked. ]
It was an experiment, but it's something I agreed to willingly. [ Which sounds crazy to most people, but it had made perfect sense to him at the time and he still doesn't think he regrets it. (Maybe. It's complicated.) ]
There was a war, one that I needed to fight in. [ Steve's expression sets in that bullheaded way of his. ] That experiment was the only way I was gonna have a chance to do that.
no subject
Are you from the same place as Bucky? A lot of what you are saying sounds like what he told me. Except for the, ah, willingness to be experimented on.
[He sees the stubbornness on Steve's face and it's cute, actually. Bullheadedness is something he has in spades and so he appreciates it in other people.]
no subject
I am, but yeah, our situations couldn't have been more different. I also went through more of a dramatic physical change than he did. He bulked up a little, I grew almost a foot.
[ Steve turns to refill his cup with some punch as he settles into the idea that Bucky is starting to get to know people here. He's figuring it out, just like Steve had assured him he would. When Steve turns back to Mettaton, he has a question of his own. ]
So you two are friends?
no subject
Interesting. So your experiments had nothing to do with Hydra then? Who did it if not them?
[At the mention of he and Bucky being "friends" that wicked grin of his from earlier returns, his eyes glinting with mischief at the memory of he and Bucky's last encounter.]
Oh, we are certainly friendly with each other. How do you know him?
[He takes a few chips from the snack table to snack on. They're not Popato Chisps, but they're still good.]
no subject
Whatever it is, Steve's probably overthinking it, so he brushes it off and focuses on answering the questions instead. Though he sets his food aside and crosses his arms over his chest, a subtle sort of defensiveness. ]
We've been friends since we were kids. We fought in the war together.
[ They'd lived and died together, in other words, and Steve had failed to keep Bucky safe. But he doesn't need to get that deep into it with a relative stranger. ]
And it was a German scientist who developed the serum, though he had the US military backing the experiment.
no subject
Oh goodness. He is flirting with Bucky's best friend. He feels a pang of guilt at the thought. But... it's not like he and Bucky are an item of any kind, right? A few kisses here and there don't a relationship or commitment make. He shouldn't feel bad for flirting with anyone! All the same though, this feels too close for comfort.]
Wow, that's amazing to hear! From the way he had talked, I was worried that he was alone here with no one from home.
[It's a fate that he himself would hate to ever experience.
Steve mentions the US and the military and suddenly Mettaton is wishing he had paid more attention to the bits and pieces of human history his PR people had tried to teach him when he was first navigating the surface. All well. More questions to ask then!]
That sounds a lot better than whatever that Hydra was doing. So this serum was all for fighting in this mysterious war of yours. Did you win, at least?
no subject
That, more than any of the other strange insinuations that Mettaton has offered thus far, is what causes Steve to stop up short for a moment. There's a pang there, an ache under his ribcage that he doesn't want to dwell on, and yet how can he not? Bucky still feels like an outsider among the rest of them, like he doesn't belong. He doesn't tell people about his friends because he probably doesn't think he really has any, save for Steve, and their whole relationship has grown more and more complicated. ]
Yeah, he's... [ Steve forces his gaze back over to Mettaton. ] It's an adjustment process. [ Bucky being so open with someone, even a stranger (actually, it's probably easier with a stranger) is still something to be glad about, though.
When Mettaton continues to ask questions about the war, Steve shifts his weight and tries to force his mind from the subject of Bucky for a while. ] It's called World War II, if you want to look it up. [ No doubt the library here would have some books on it. ] And yeah, we won, but... I wasn't really around then to see it. [ Which is an ominous statement, he knows, but it looks like they're just digging deeper and deeper into his history. ]
no subject
Well, I'm happy that I've been able to help this process of him along. He really deserves the world.
[Mettaton catches himself before he says anything more, trying to keep the sentiment from leaking into his voice. Focus back on Steve, not on whatever array of emotions he still has to muddle through in regards to Bucky.
Which is relatively easy to do when Steve makes such an ominous statement.]
Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. ...Was it after you weren't around to see it that Wonderland took you?
[An obtuse way to ask if he died before coming to Wonderland, but he asks all the same. Steve wouldn't be the first person he's run into in Wonderland that came here after death.]
no subject
Really, though, it's nice to be able to add a name to the list of people who know Bucky's bloody history and don't judge him for it. At the moment, it's still a pretty short list. There are plenty of people here who accept Bucky, but not all of them know the gory details. This might also be proof to Bucky that he can tell people the truth and not be rejected by them immediately.
The way Mettaton asks that question is careful, well-phrased, a delicate push for more information without using any words that might set Steve off. Steve appreciates the consideration, although he's not that bothered by talking about it at this point. ]
I sacrificed myself to make sure that a whole lot of people didn't die. Or at least, I thought I did, but it turns out that I just ended up cryogenically freezing myself without meaning to. Seventy years later, people found my body by chance and defrosted me.
[ His mouth turns up on one side and he shrugs a shoulder. ]
So yeah, didn't really get to see how it ended. Just read about it way later.
no subject
Mettaton shakes his head. What is with these humans and being frozen? Do they like the cold?]
Wow. Not to be rude, but that's terrible. Honestly. But, at least you have a shot at living the rest of your life again if you get out of Wonderland! Even if it's 70 years later than expected. You get to enjoy the Surface to the fullest! Us Monsters have only had a couple of months with that, having only recently been freed from the Underground.
[He is casual in how he delivers that last line, as if the implication that his people were trapped below the Earth's Crust is nothing more than a remark about the weather.]
no subject
So you're from the same place as Alphys and Sans?
[ There really are a lot of them here, especially since Steve knows he probably hasn't met everyone from that place who's found themselves here in Wonderland. It's sort of like his world, where Wonderland just seems attracted to them.
Steve could make it more clear that he's actually had some time to live back home before Wonderland brought him here, but it doesn't seem like that important of a distinction right now. He's more curious to know how a robot fits in with all the other monsters. ]
no subject
Yes! In fact, my creator is none other than Alphys herself! I am her greatest creation.
[There is not a trace of shame or humbleness in that statement. It's also partially a lie, but no one other than Alphys, himself, Napstablook, Frisk and Chara know about that. And if he has his way, no one else will ever know.]
I was created to be an entertainer for Monsterkind, and I am their one and only celebrity, bringing light to their bleak days before the sun. And after, now that we're freed.
[Well, more like years before the sun, but Steve probably knows all about that.]
I'm not surprised that you know Sans; he gets around quite a bit here. But it's wonderful to hear that Alphys is branching out! She can be such a recluse sometimes.
no subject
It's pretty depressing when Steve thinks about it like that, but Mettaton himself seems content with his purpose. Is that something that's programmed into him? Just how much free will does he have? Those are questions Steve should probably ask Alphys...
It doesn't surprise him to hear that Alphys can be reclusive, but Steve smiles and shrugs. ] Yeah, I spoke to her when she first got here and we've talked a few times since then too. She's got a lot to offer if she can move past her hang-ups about her skills. I'm grateful to her for helping Bucky with his arm, too.
[ Now her ability to provide that service makes even more sense, if she has experience building an entire robot. What would one arm be after that? ]
no subject
She is truly a genius; it's a pity that she doesn't think of herself as such. She's always loved tinkering with things and she has such a mind for metal and machine that she could revolutionize the world if she wanted to!
[He's gushing a bit, sure, but Alphys is his best friend. He owes her practically everything. He certainly owes her his body. ...not like that.
All in all, despite their rocky relationship in the past, Mettaton is grateful for her in his life. It makes the thought of potentially losing her to other people that much more painful. Even though it is already happening and he's attempting to rip off the band aid ahead of time and distance himself from her. It's for the best, really. She deserves a friend who didn't spend half of their relationship treating her like garbage.]
She really is sweet. I'm sure she enjoyed building it for him. I could tell from the way the metal moved and how it sat on his body that she put a lot of thought and care into making sure his new arm worked correctly.
[So he may have felt up Bucky's new arm quite a bit. Sue him! It's gorgeous!]
no subject
[ Tell Alphys about how good she is enough times, and maybe someday it'll sink in. Steve knows it probably isn't that simple, that she probably has other, deeper issues that have torched her self-esteem so thoroughly, but he can at least play some part in building it back up.
It doesn't particularly surprise Steve that Mettaton would have paid careful attention to the construction of Bucky's arm, seeing how he's made entirely of metal. So if someone like Mettaton approves, Steve can rest assured that the arm is good quality. ]
I know that it wasn't easy for him to ask someone for help, so I'm glad it worked out.
[ He tilts his head to one side in contemplation, then figures that Mettaton might be able to help him with something. ]
If I wanted to do something to repay her, what would you suggest?
no subject
[That's another person to add to the list of people who would support Alphys. That's good. The more people there are, the less painful it will be when Mettaton finally steps away.
Then Steve asks about ways to repay her, and his response is instantaneous.]
Get her something related to anime. If you want to be more specific, get her something related to Mew Mew Kissy Cutie. It's her favorite.
no subject
You know, I may have picked up on that.
[ It's not like Alphys makes it much of a secret.
Steve knows very little about this anime, though, save what Alphys herself has told him, so he's stumped for a moment when it comes to what to get her. Anything she might want she could get from the closets, right?
Then it clicks and he centers his gaze on Mettaton once more. ] I sketch sometimes... do you think she'd like a drawing of her favorite character from that show?
no subject
She is quite obvious about her interests if you let her talk long enough.
[Which is approximately five seconds if you are encouraging and nice.
Steve then suggests a possible gift and momentarily Mettaton is taken aback by how thoughtful of an idea it is. He grins and nods when he finally catches up with himself.]
She'd adore that, Steve! Knowing you put time and effort into drawing something for her would certainly brighten her day!
[And possibly kill her, but he's not gonna mention that part.]
no subject
All the same, he's going to have to do a little more research into this show now in order to get the character design details down. He doesn't think his style necessarily fits the animation of the show itself, but hopefully Alphys will still enjoy what he comes up with. ]
I'll get right on that, then.
[ You know, when he's not at a strange hot tub party. Steve smiles at Mettaton and nods. ] Thanks for the advice.
no subject
Mettaton gives Steve an equally bright smile back. Good-looking, strong, and sweet too? Steve Rogers certainly is a catch to anyone who gets him, and he's glad that he got to talk to him outside of Wonderland's shenanigans. Despite some of his earlier misgivings, Mettaton steps forward and winks.]
You're welcome, Steve! If you ever need advice in the future on anything, I'd be happy to assist.
[He also give Steve's arm a "casual" squeeze. Oh Mettaton. You have no shame.]
As much as it pains me to say it, I should probably let you go. I can't keep someone as handsome as you all to myself! No matter how much I'd like to.
no subject
Granted, Mettaton here is more expressive and emotional than any robot Steve's ever encountered. ]
Yeah, I should probably make the rounds. [ Check in on Darcy, see if he spots any other familiar faces. It's not all about getting away from the flirting, honest. ]
Thanks again for the help, though. I'll see you around. [ He lifts his hand in a half-wave and then takes off, thoughts immediately shifting to his gift ideas for Alphys. ]
