[He probably shouldn't be out here, but he wants to keep his wits sharp. He can't refuse seeing Elizabeth though, and when she approaches and waves, his expression breaks into a warm, if weary, smile.

He still keeps smiling when she realizes something's wrong.]

The event cost me an arm--thankfully, not a leg. [GET IT, BECAUSE THE SAYING IS-] Alphys and a friend of mine, Fiddleford--he just arrived--are going to build me a new one. I couldn't have a better chance. They're the best engineers I've ever known!

... Don't worry. With Mikan and Stanley watching me like hawks, I'll have no choice but to recover very quickly.

[After a cursory glance at the chessboard, he makes another move.]

[His reassurances do little to assuage Elizabeth's worry.]

A mechanical arm? I hope it works. I've seen machines grafted onto people before and it didn't end well. But then, I've struggled with just a finger missing [She waves her hand for emphasis] so I'm not sure how I'd cope without a whole arm. Perhaps that's the best solution.

It will! It won't be grafted, fortunately. [He shudders, but he's still smiling.] And Alphys and Fiddleford are geniuses. I suppose you could say they turned the science of engineering into an art.

[Something occurs to him.] Are you alright? I hope the event wasn't hard on you.

Oh, you don't need to worry about me, Dr Pines! [She feels terrible that he's concerned for her in his state, but secretly she's very pleased too.] I spent most of the event looking for Mr DeWitt - a friend of mine from back home who arrived just recently. I managed not to get into too much trouble.

Oh! Someone from Columbia? [Ford tries to sit a little more upright and suppresses a wince. He knows exactly what it's like, being in a foreign dimension without anyone from your own world.] I hope he's nice.

He's... [She hesitates, not really sure she'd describe Booker DeWitt as 'nice', though she's sure Ford will like him regardless.] He's a good man. He's the one who helped me escape my tower.

[Ford notes the hesitation.] He's a good man like my brother is a good man, or like Rick Sanchez is a good man?

[Elizabeth can't help but laugh at those rather fitting poles of comparison.] More like Mr Pines, but there are times I can see a little of Dr Sanchez in him too. [Especially with drinking things you find in the trash can seriously Booker...] We didn't part on the best of terms, when I arrived here, but I have hope that things will be better here.

Hopefully it won't come to that. [And she was more than capable of punching him herself, but she really appreciated the sentiment. It was nice to feel that there were people looking out for her, after so many years alone.] But I'll definitely keep it in mind.
