Stop! You didn't do this. You didn't. But I... [Breathe. In... out. In... out. He focuses on Stan, but not on Stan's eyes. He can't meet them, but the sight of his brother grounds him, helps him feel... safe.]
...I couldn't make it out of the jungle. When I sat down to rest, I started losing consciousness and Bill came to me.
[Say it. Just say it.
The sour, ugly taste of bile rises from the back of his throat. He tries to swallow it back.]
... I gave in. I made a deal and I let him-- I let... [He shudders, steels himself.] I made a deal. He'd take the pain and not let me die, and he wasn't allowed to hurt anyone.
But he still.... he was in my head. [Stanford's throat tightens, and his words take on a poisonous vitriol he saves for Bill and Bill alone.]
He was in me, using my hands and feet like a flesh puppet. All because I was weak.
[And he feels wretched for it. At least now a burden has been lifted from him and he starts to slump a little.
That burden is gone, but the shame won't be so easy to shake off. It weighs on him visibly just like the fatigue of anemia.]
... I should have told him no. I should have accepted death. I was a fool and a coward. [He is angry for it. Hurt, emotionally. And right now he can do nothing but stew in it, because he has no strength left. It just burns in him, all the hate, shame and anger, and he'll keep holding onto it out of spite like holding onto a scalding pot with bare hands.]

He feels weak in the knees, but not for the part of the confession Ford is most concerned about. Ford almost didn't make it. Stan didn't let him go soon enough, and they took too long. They wasted too much time crying and Ford could have--
Numbly, he reaches behind him and pulls over the nearest chair so he can sit.]
No, you weren't. You did what you had to do to survive, and that's not dumb or cowardly. You...you kept your promise.
[His promise not to die, the promise he made to Stan when everything was warped and confused and he thought he was some jungle child. Even this is sort of Stan's fault, but he refuses to apologize for this one. Not if it saved Ford's life.]
Besides...that event got to everyone. We were all hearing things and buyin' into it and makin' bad decisions. It's why you were stuck in that cage so long, and why I-- why it took so long for me to wise up and let you out. ...If I'd done that sooner, you might not've even had to deal with Bill.
[His shoulders fall thinking about it. The more he does, the more of his own fault he can see here.]
...You wouldn't've had to deal with any of this if I'd just gone with you when you first found me.

"If I'd just..."
Ford grits his teeth. The consuming ball of negativity turns itself on Stanley.
How dare he. All he can think about is himself. The old messages rear their heads--the messages Stanford always told himself about his brother to help justify never speaking to him or reaching out while the first portal was being created.
At least now, another voice pipes up in Stan's defense. It's not like that. He feels guilty. You know what guilt feels like. You know what it's like to feel responsible.
But Stan's not responsible, is he?
Stanford furrows his brow. He can't deal with this. He absolutely cannot listen to this right now.]
... If all you're going to do is blame yourself for things that weren't your fault, then just find Mikan and leave.
[The rest of what Stanley said was some consolation. Ford knows he's right. It's every human's instinct to desperately reach for survival no matter what. Somehow though, it doesn't wash away the desire to ask Alphys if it's possible to scrub one's soul with magic.]

Part of him doesn't want to have this fight. Not now, not when Ford is so hurt. Not when he almost died. But there's no hiding the hurt and irritation. It feels like a betrayal, like there's no winning with Ford no matter what he does.
So, he just stands up and does as asked, but he glares down at Ford.]
Fine. But stay put. If I come back with her and we find you on the floor again, we're both gonna kick your ass.
[Well. Probably not Mikan, but she won't be happy about it. With that, he storms off to go find her.]

Ford glares up at his brother, but he says nothing. Once Stanley's gone, Stanford staggers to his bed, shedding what clothes he can before he passes out.]

Despite that, he's decided to stick around. He can't just leave Ford like this, not after everything, even if Ford's refusing to shift the blame on him for whatever stupid reason. A few minutes ago Stan ducked out though, once he finally started feeling hungry again, and he's come back with some to-go containers in hand.]
Sixer, you still up? I grabbed us some burgers from that diner upstairs!
[He kind of belatedly remembers to knock on the door frame, after he's already announced himself. Oops.]

There are, however, a few changes. Nothing is different about Ford's main room except for the mysterious addition of another door. His bedroom, with its open door, also has a connecting door that's new too, and through it, a nearly identical copy of Stan's bedroom in Gravity Falls, plus an offshoot bathroom of its own. On Ford's bedside table there are several bottles of pills and a set of keys.
He has his communicator in hand, and a tablet he pulled from the closet to watch 21st century TV. Just to catch up on culture. That's all.]
Come on in, Knucklehead.

Ta da! Real food! Figure burgers and fries would prolly be easy to deal with when you've only got one arm.
[That's when Stan spots the new addition to the room, and stares at it.]
That, uh. ...That door wasn't there when I left, right?
[He's pretty sure it wasn't, but he can't imagine why Ford would be redecorating now.]

--Right! It's the guest room; technically, your room. Go have a look.
