Sans and Max

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-12 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He wakes up in a small room, staring up at a greenish sky. That's, uh. New. He's pretty sure the sky is normally blue.]

[Welp. Guess the event's started.]

okay.

[He debates just lying here and waiting the whole thing out but, ugh. The kids are probably out there, Papyrus is probably out there, and he'd better go make sure they're alright if he can. Caring is so much work. He sits up slowly, rubbing the back of his skull and trying to take stock of his surroundings.]

[The walls are brick and the room he's in is narrow. There's a ceiling he didn't notice before that's transparent, maybe glass. Ahead of him is a door. It looks like it leads to the rest of...whatever this is.]

[There's a loud grating sound behind him. He turns in time to see the rest of the room, and a figure lying on the ground on the other side. It looks like...]

max?

[And then a massive metal door drops between them, cutting the room in two and separating them. Sans winces at the bang as it hits the ground and drags himself to his feet.]

man. never a dull moment.

[He heads over to the metal door and gives it a few experimental knocks.]

max? hey, you still there? you okay?
mypartnerintime: (You're asking me?)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-12 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[She's having a nightmare.

Or no, she's pretending to have one. She hasn't been sleeping well ever since the Neverland event- and sometimes she likes to imagine that all the bad memories and painful thoughts are nothing but nightmares that will be gone in the morning. But they're no more nightmares than Wonderland is a dream.

She's been rewinding again. And it's all for real.

She remembers the lightning and the flying debris in Arcadia Bay, things that she caused, the bodies lying on the road, the wind spiraling and spiraling like time moving backward to a single, certain point...

And then she's waking up.

A loud, metallic bang jerks her awake, and at first she has to shield her eyes from the glaring light of the sun. Or- not the sun, because the sky is green.

Event.

She gets to her feet and moves toward a metallic door covering one entire end of the room. It sounded like there was a voice on the other side. She shakes her head, trying to drain the grogginess from her skull as she runs one hand over the door.]

...Sans?

[Of course it's Sans. He always seems to be in the middle of messes like this, doesn't he? She hears something in the walls, a slow gurgling like water filling pipes. At the same time, a low rumbling echoes around her as more movement occurs- a stone roof sliding steadily over the open top of the room, blocking out the light inch by inch.

...That's pretty fucking scary.]

Sans, what's happening?
punful: (sansye shrug)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-12 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
[He hears her voice, muffled through the door but audible. The last thing she says gets partially cut off by a new sound, like stone against stone. He looks up in time to see something sliding across the roof, cutting off the green sky and closing them in.]

[He could teleport. Just launch himself upward about fifty feet, take a look at where they are and then shoot on back down, but he has no idea what's up there. Has no idea if he'd even be able to land again, or if he'd reach terminal velocity before he found a good spot. He'd also be leaving Max behind, which seems like kind of a dick move.]

[There's a few seconds left of light before the roof closes. The dark doesn't bother him, and he'll be able to see well enough, but...]

max, it's some kind of event. hey, look around your room and try to see the layout before the light goes out. then describe it to me, okay?

[Humans have terrible night vision, he knows. He's thinking fast. It's the only thing he's fast at. There's still that door behind him, so he has an out if he needs it.]
mypartnerintime: (I'm so sorry)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-12 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Trying her very best not to panic and to actually think about the situation, she turns to survey the room. She only takes in a quick glance before it becomes too dark to see clearly.]

It's... square, I think. Maybe only a few yards wide. There's nothing in here. [She shouts it out as she starts to make her way around the room, feeling the walls with her hands.]

It's all just stone and-

[And that gurgling sound. And the warm liquid now pouring over her fingers. Her eyes begin to adjust to the dark, enough so she can tell the liquid is clear.

She takes a deep breath.]

Sans... Is there water coming down the walls?
punful: (skullking around)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-12 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
no doors? i've got a door in mine, opposite this metal one.

[He stays by the metal door, listening to her voice travel. It's hard to tell where she is, especially over the...hm. That sounds kind of like water. Like standing near one of the small streams in Waterfall.]

down the...?

[He takes a step to the side and his slipper splashes into a small puddle. It's pitch black, but monsters have always been able to see in the dark. There's water pouring out of spigots along all three walls, trickling down in what appears to be a slow fall. There's several dozen spigots though, all dumping water at the same rate. The whole floor is already wet.]

[He steps back to the metal door.]

yeah, uh. i've got water here. lot of it.

[He looks around for any drains or vents or anything. The floor is solid, there isn't so much as a crack in any of the walls. The room is...well, it's sealed.]

[Ah. Okay. So that's what this is about.]

[Some event.]

[He runs a few quick calculations in his head.]

max. don't panic, but i think these rooms are sealed. they're gonna start filling up with water. we've got about five minutes to think of a way out.

[He'll be fine. This is more an annoyance than a threat. He goes over to the door behind him, just to test the handle. It turns easily. Unlocked. The solution is simple--just walk out the door. Even if he didn't, he could literally just sit here and wait the event out. He doesn't need to breathe, after all.]

[But Max. Humans need to breathe. He could leave, he could leave so easily, but he'd be condemning her to a slow, terrifying, agonizing death.]

[He's probably done that sort of thing a million times back home with the kid, but he's...he's trying to change here, right? He can't just do that. Right?]

[He goes back to the metal door separating and presses a hand to it. There's about an inch of water on the floor now.]

we're gonna get outta here, okay? just have to think of a solution.
mypartnerintime: (Abbot and Costello)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-12 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Uh. No. [No doors. She'd be heading for it right now if there was one in the room. But that would be easy, right? Just her and Sans walking out unscathed.

This is... not like any other event she remembers. There's no subtlety, no slow build-up, no network even. There's only a room you get dumped into, with water pouring down the sides, and a time limit on your life.

Go to hell, Wonderland.

Don't panic, she tells herself. Sans has magic. And he owes her. He owes her after everything he put her through.]

Don't- leave me, okay?

[She finishes her round of the room and returns to the metal door, shoes starting to soak in the water. She tries to ignore how her socks are already getting wet. She gives the door a solid bang.]

Can you open this?
punful: (wanna know what my name means?)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-12 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
[No doors on her side. Just on his side.]

[This is a test of some kind, isn't it? He could walk out, or he could stay here and listen to her drown on the other side of the metal. Or he could come up with some way to rescue her. It's like Wonderland wants to personally determines just what kind of coward he is.]

[Fuck.]

[He's not a hero. He's absolutely not a hero, has never once in his life considered himself in such terms and never plans to. He doesn't rescue people. Except, yanno. The times he's helped Frisk or Chara or anyone else in Wonderland. But that's not really heroism. That's just...being a functional person.]

[He can't just leave her.]

i won't. don't worry, i'm not goin' anywhere.

[It's a puzzle. Monsters are good at puzzles. If he can't solve a simple locked door puzzle, then he probably deserves to listen to one of his friends die.]

[He just has to think. And fast.]

there's no handles or anything. i could...lemme try something.

[He steps back a bit, slippers splashing in the water. Two or so inches now. He raises a hand, wraps his magic around the door, trying to work it beneath the underside. Then he lifts--or tries to. Sets his jaw and tries to levitate the door up off the ground, force it back along whatever mechanism dropped it in the first place.]

[It's too heavy, and it feels like something's locked it in place. He lets go with a quiet sigh.]

can't open it, not even with magic. i...

[The water seems to be rising faster now.]

i can teleport. uh i mean, i could...pop over to your side and then back. this door over here's unlocked. but i don't...uh...i'd be teleporting blind. not even sure how thick this metal is. i could end up, heh, stuck in the metal, or in a wall or--stuck to you or something.

[He can tell the general direction of where she is based on her voice, but he can't tell where she is exactly. He could always just pop to the opposite side of the room from where her voice is, but he might either smash himself against the wall or fuse with it. There's also the problem of displacing the water. How much water would he have to displace? Teleporting into the swimming pool with Mettaton's Mirror was simple enough, since he'd been there enough times to know the layout and since he knew the exact volume of the pool. Not a difficult calculation. This...there's too many variables. For all he knows, her side is filling at a faster rate than his.]

[He could just guess, but if he guesses wrong then she still dies. It just means she dies in a room filled with water and monster dust.]

let's...look for a button or a lever. something.
mypartnerintime: (Eat shit and die)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-12 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
[She starts poking around the room semi-blindly, first with a steady and deliberate thoroughness, then with more desperation and panic as time passes. The water is certainly rising faster now.]

...Getting stuck doesn't sound like it'd help much. [So yes, she agrees that that should be a last resort, or... or he could just leave her.

Yeah, that's a good idea.

The thought almost doesn't sound sarcastic in her head. Sure does sound like her, though.

And maybe it is a good idea. Heaven knows the universe could use one less time traveler. But despite her rocky relationship with Sans, she's fairly certain he wouldn't leave her in any case.

She was also fairly certain he wouldn't tell anyone her secret. But he did.

The thought leaves her feeling slightly more hopeless as the water begins to lap against her knees.]

There's nothing here. How the fuck am I supposed to get out of this? [She gives the metal door a frustrated bang with her foot, spraying water up everywhere.] Or has Wonderland gone completely bonkers and decided to just outright kill us?

punful: (why did the skeleton want a friend)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-12 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, heh. sure wouldn't get us out of this sticky situation. heh.

[Probably not the best time for jokes, but it's what he does.]

[He starts splashing along the walls, checking for any loose stones or hidden panels or anything at all. If it comes to it, he'll just have to guess. Once the water gets high enough, it'll be their last option and he'll just have to...hope. Something he's not very good at. But he is fairly good at guessing. So, if it comes to it...]

[But they're not there yet. The water is up to his ankle bones now. There's no switches, nothing.]

doesn't make sense. why would it bother? the events have always had some kinda...something to them. it's like a puzzle, yeah? one of those locked door puzzles. gotta have a solution. might just not be obvious.

[Four minutes left.]

remember that post on the network? with the cards? there's gotta be a clue there.

[Too bad he didn't pay much attention to it. He's, uh...maybe starting to get a bit concerned.]
mypartnerintime: (Holy shit!)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-12 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Normally Max would appreciate the pun, but today it just seems to bounce off her. Probably because there's water up to her thigh. And it's still going up.

But water you gonna do about it?

It's really not funny. She continues to search the walls and floor with grim determination.]

Unless I'm about to turn into a fish, I don't think it'll help so much.

[There was something else in the video about not stepping on the floor because it turned into lava, but that sounds like overkill at this point. A room full of water is more than enough to finish off this particular puzzle. Though the more she thinks about it, the more puzzle seems like the wrong word.

She pauses to steady her voice, trying to not overthink on whether or not a solution actually exists.]

It's up to my thighs here. How're you... How are things on that side? Find anything?
Edited 2016-11-12 15:54 (UTC)
punful: (stop joking)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-12 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's so hard to pay attention to the announcement posts because they so thoroughly seem like complete nonsense. The worst kinds of riddles are ones that make absolutely no sense except in retrospect. What was it...one of the cards had turned into a dog or something. They'd been making a card bridge across lava...]

[So maybe cooperation is the key, but that still doesn't do much for them right now. He scrubs at his skull, trying to think.]

shit. okay...

[The water must be rising much faster on her side, which means they have less time than he thought. Maybe three minutes. Damn.]

it's rising faster on your hand. hold on, gonna try something. stand back from the door.

[He raises his hand and summons a Gaster Blaster, aiming it for the metal door between them. He's always been a fan of cutting the knot, but something tells him this isn't going to work. Some puzzles can't be brute-forced.]

[The Blaster goes off with an explosive, unforgettable sound, searing the metal and casting Sans's entire side of the room in hot white light. He grits his teeth, putting as much force into the blast as he can.]

[The blast ends, the light fades and Blaster blips out of existence. There isn't so much as a scorch mark.]

come on...

[He raises his hand again and summons a line of bones, sending every single one crashing into the metal. Nothing happens.]

nothing's working. just...just hang in there, we'll think of... it's gotta be cooperation-based. right? must be something both of us can do...
mypartnerintime: (Never minding what state I'm in)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-13 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[She stands back and away from the door as instructed, leaning against one of the stone walls. There's a weird sound- almost like a roar, but she can't tell what it is. She can imagine, though: Sans throwing his magic against the metal.

She tells herself to breathe and be patient as several loud bangs sound out from Sans' side of the door. But by the end of it she feels nothing but more panic.

As Sans talks she wades back toward the door. Wades.

Waist-high now.

She puts her palms against the metal, leans her forehead on it. This really, really isn't going to end well for her, is it? There's nothing along the door that will help, no switches or hinges or levers...

No hinges. Nothing that even makes it look like a door. But that's what Sans keeps calling it. She around, trying to see the places where the metal meets the stone, but it's too dark.]

Hey uhh, Sans...? How did you know it was me on this side? I only knew it was you because of your voice, but you... I think you said my name before you heard me.
punful: (nah nothing gets under my skin)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[It's up to his chest now. God does he ever hate being short sometimes. It's getting harder to move, his clothes sodden and weighing him down. He's pretty sure his slippers have floated off somewhere.]

[There has to be something. Maybe--maybe he's supposed to just guess. Maybe this event wants him to take some kind of leap of faith. It all seems like a test of some kind, and he is not one for leaps of faith. He could just...just teleport four feet through the metal door and hope it's far enough, hope he can calculate how much water needs to be displaced.]

[He stumbles a bit in the water.]

what? because i saw you...right before the door came down. it dropped from the ceiling. there's some kind of mechanism that's not letting me lift it back up, even with magic.

[The water's approaching his shoulders now and he starts to feel the first twinges of panic. Okay. Okay, calm down. Calculate how much water must be in this side of the room, allow for a margin of error +/-2...maybe 3 to be safe. Practice.]

[He teleports sideways just a few feet , causing a small wave as the water is displaced. The wave hits the wall and flows backward, almost barreling him over as it hits.]

[It's more difficult than he'd like, but if can just an approximation on the math...]

max, i've--i've got about a minute before i go under. it gets to that point i'm just gonna...i'll do a blind teleport and just. hope. okay? not gonna leave you.

mypartnerintime: (What is happening now?)

2/2 ahahaha I just realized now that you mentioned a glass ceiling

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-13 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
-lying lazily on the ground.] Sans! [She shouts his name and immediately begins to fall, bracing for the impact of her feet against the stone. Wind rushes up around her. Water drips from her soaked clothes into the completely dry room. In just a moment that metal door will bang shut again, and the roof will shut, and it will be too late.]

Sans!

[Catch me catch me catch me, she thinks, unaware that her Mirror once thought the exact same thing.]
punful: (yeah uh bone puns right haha)

1/2 LMAO

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-13 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[There's water in his skull. It's a good thing skeletons don't need ears to hear. He's almost completely underwater, and he's sort of drifting along the floor, unable to keep his purchase. His soaked clothes are pulling him down. Skeletons aren't known for their buoyancy.]

max!

[Ten more seconds, then he'll--]

[On the other side of the door, she's apologizing. He almost interrupts, almost tries to ask her what in the world she's talking about, why she's apologizing when she's the one about to die, when he's probably about to fail her like he already failed her, like he always fails--]

[I have to rewind.]

[It's like his mind goes numb.]

[You have to catch me.]

[But she can't--she said--]

[Remember.]

[Reset. Rewind. Back five minutes, the door will be up, and he'll be able to see her, will be able to teleport directly to her, so long as he remembers. And memory's one of the few things he's good at. Teleport. Catch her. Teleport back. The door slams down, and both of them are on his side, the side with the exit.]

[But there's a moment as the water rises above his head, a moment of sheer, blinding terror, because he doesn't know if this is going to kill him or not, doesn't know if this will just tear him asunder like it almost did last time, and she can't possibly know about that because he didn't even bother to tell her, she just saw the crack and figured something bad must have happened and she lied, she lied to him, and even if it doesn't kill him it's going to hurt.]

[He tries to call out to her, either to tell her to stop or to just do it, but he's underwater and any sound is lost beneath the roar.]

[And then--]
punful: (you could say my skull is splitting)

2/2 welp

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-13 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
[The world splinters and his mind shatters.]

[Everything unwinds, unspools, unravels. It's a dragging sensation, there and then not there, because his mind can't parse it. He can't even really remember the Resets, he mostly just guesses, makes educated guesses based on the script, on words he remembers hearing or saying, on fragments of memory or dreams or nightmares. It's always like a puzzle that's missing half the pieces. And rewinds are worse. Worse because on some level he has to actually feel it, even if he forgets it a moment (haha) later.]

[And then it's over and he's on the floor, halfway to sitting up, everything bright and strange. He's here. Max is there. He sees her a moment before she shouts and remembers three things. The door. Catch me. Teleport.]

[The pain in his left eyesocket is searing but he ignores it.]

[Three seconds.]

[One: he teleports, even before he's fully standing, lands right beside her in midair and catches her. Wonders why she's soaked.]

[Two: another teleport, landing them both back on the floor, mere inches from the exit door. His knees wobble from the landing and he almost goes down.]

[Three: the metal door slams down behind them.]

[They're safe. The roof is already starting to grind shut and water is starting to trickle down the walls--that must have been what happened before--but they're safe.]

[He opens the exit and tugs her on through, shutting it behind them even before the first puddles start to form. Something in the door clicks and locks as it seals the water room.]

[He lets go of Max, leans back against the door and covers his left eyesocket with both hands. Both eyesockets squeeze shut. He slides to the floor.]
mypartnerintime: (Go fuck your selfie)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-13 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
[She stumbles through the door and almost falls against the opposite wall, sliding down to the floor almost at the exact same time as Sans, exhausted.]

Jesus, what the-

[What the hell was that, she wants to say. It felt like nothing she's ever felt before: sudden, and while it definitely wasn't painful, it was... a strange, almost electric sort of vibration that spread through her whole body. Unmistakable.

She runs fingers through her hair, pushing the wet strands off her face. Only then does she fully grasp what happened- he got her to the other side, and out the door. She's safe.

And you fucking did it again. Look at him, it's like he's in pain...

She stares at Sans, wide-eyed. Already she's wondering what kind of trouble she's in- they're both in. Wondering what he thinks of her.]

Sans...?
punful: (what do you call a tired skeleton?)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-13 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
[He hisses through his teeth, very quietly. Pain is radiating up the hairline crack above his eyesocket and spreading through his whole skull. It'll go away, though. It sucks, it's dizzying, but it'll go away.]

[It was a rewind. She rewound. She did exactly what her Mirror did. Did she...tell him already? He can't remember. The door slammed down and they were separated and...and that's it. He remembers catch me. She's soaked head to toe, and there was water coming down the walls, so it must have been some kind of...some kind of locked room thing. Find the exit before you drown.]

[And rewinding was the solution.]

it's fine.

[His voice sounds thin and shaky, even to him, so he tries again.]

...it's fine. not as bad as last time.

[No new cracks. No marrow-deep, paralyzing pain, immobilizing him and putting him at the mercy of her Mirror.]

[Heh, but he's sort of at her mercy all the same, isn't he?]

[It's not as bad as last time. Doesn't hurt as bad. It's already fading a little.]

[He opens his right eyesocket but doesn't look at her. Keeps his left one covered.]

what, uh. happened?
mypartnerintime: (Never Maxine)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-14 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
[As last time?

Her mirror rewound- she knows that much. She thought they fought, not that the act of rewinding itself did something to him. She tilts her head, trying to see past his hands, trying to look him in the one eye that's not covered.

She wants to reach out and touch his shoulder, but she feels like he would recoil from her.]

...I had to rewind, to get the door up. Otherwise we'd be trapped, and- I'm sorry, Sans, I didn't know it would do this to you. People usually don't even remember anything...

[She has force out the words a little. Slowly she comes to the realization that she's scared of him right now, that he could say or do certain things that would hurt her in ways that water can't.]
punful: (gotta rest my weary bones)

[personal profile] punful 2016-11-14 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He avoids her gaze, staring at the floor. That must have been the plan, then. That must be why he can remember catch me. Maybe they discussed the whole thing already. Planned out all the details. She rewinds, he teleports before the door closes and gets them out.]

...was gonna fill with water, right? the room. that's why you're all wet.

[Makes sense. Not that water would kill him, but it would have killed her. So. She had no choice. They both had no choice.]

it's fine. no damage. just hurts a little is all.

[The pain is already fading, or at least he can pretend it is. Maybe he's just getting used to it. He's very good at that.]

guess i'm just weird, heh. time stuff, uh. affects me different. long story.

[He lowers his hands with a sigh, willing himself to get over it, to just be normal. He cracks his left eyesocket open, then closes it again. His vision's a bit fuzzy on that side.]

you, uh. said you couldn't do that. that it was just...

[She said she couldn't rewind. She said she'd tried and couldn't do it. That it was just her Mirror. She'd been adamant. He'd believed her.]

[Stupid. Pathetic. She did what she had to do to save them both, and of course she lied to him, why the hell wouldn't she? After the shit he pulled? She had absolutely no reason to trust him. Of course she lied. He has no right to judge her for it. He has no right to feel as betrayed as he does.]

[He's so damn pathetic. This is just consequences, that's all, more of the consequences of letting people down. He made his bed months ago, now he's lying in it.]

[He braces one hand against the wall and drags himself to his feet, keeping his left eyesocket closed.]

guess i deserved this, huh? heh. but hey, at least we're outta there. we should probably, uh...keep going. try and figure out where we are, what this event's about.
mypartnerintime: (I know this is real)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-11-14 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
[She stands up along with him, running a hand over her forehead.] Y-yeah, the water was- I didn't have a choice...

[Time stuff affects him differently. If she had known... if she knew it would hurt him like this, what would she have done? Drown in a small, dark stone room?

And what kind of craziness makes you hurt during rewinds? What possible combination of magic and other weird stuff would result in something like that?

Obviously they both have a lot of secrets. And it hurts that she had to drop hers on him like this, when she didn't even want anyone to know. When he's not even supposed to remember. And it's obvious that it's affecting him- it's like he's trying to avoid the conversation, and she knows he's not saying everything he feels. She doesn't want to talk about this either, but... she owes him an explanation.]

Sans, I- I swear, I didn't know about it until a few weeks ago. I didn't think I had it anymore, but... I was wrong. I was so wrong, Sans, and I'm... I'm so sorry.

[She hangs her head. Stares at her feet.]

You don't... deserve this. I'm just... such a shitty friend, Sans. I should've told you.

yeah. heh, jeez. it's a good thing you did it, then. no secret is worth drowning over. if you have some kind of special power it's...best to use it responsibly, right?

[Her saving herself is worth a bit of pain on his end. It's fine. That's not the part that's still bothering him. And it shouldn't be bothering him at all, because this is what happens when you break promises and disappoint people and let them down. They turn around and hurt you right back, either intentionally or not, and you have no right to complain. It's just karma, after all. And isn't he all about karmic retribution? Heh.]

okay.

[He nods. She swears. She promises. She didn't know she could do it, even though she'd said before that she'd tried. Doesn't matter. Whether she's lying or not is irrelevant.]

nah. don't say that. i've given you no reason to trust me with something like that. not after last time. it's fine. doesn't even hurt anymore. besides, it's not like you knew anything bad could happen.

[Not like he told her how he got the crack in the first place, after all. Not like he bothered to explain it. She probably assumed her Mirror punched him in the face or something. So. He should probably explain it.]

[Should probably explain it now before she rewinds again and kills him. And there's a little swell of terror, oddly familiar, probably because back before the rewind he felt a little, uh, frightened at the fact that she could just. Just casually do something like that. Just casually rip time backwards, shred it to pieces and put it back together however she wanted, and tear him apart along with it.]

[No pieces to put back together in that case, haha.]

[But on the other hand, if he tells her, then she might not use her rewinds, not even to save herself. Maybe the next challenge they face in here will require her to use rewinds again. Nah. Can't risk her hesitating over his worthless little life. Consequences. Accept the consequences.]

[It's not like this is the first time someone has held his life in their hands without realizing it.]

[He finally looks at her and gives her a faint grin, forcing himself to open his left eyesocket. The light that's usually there is gone, leaving the socket blank and dark.]

anyway, it's not a big deal. just a bit of a headache, that's all.

[The truth is that she agrees with him- the thought had crossed her mind to tell Sans, if only because she had so adamantly denied having time powers before. But then she remembered the last time she told him a secret, and... decided not to trust him. She regrets it now, but she still feels like it was the right decision.

All the same, she watches him with sympathy and no small amount of worry, until he finally turns to look at her.

Her eyes widen slightly at the sight of his left eye. She can't help staring.]

That... that looks a little like a big deal. Does this happen every time... uhhh, like when Frisk or Chara do it?

[It's fine. It's fine, it's whatever. It's no different than after the fight with her Mirror. It just means he needs to be careful. It just means the onus is on him to stay safe, to not let her accidentally kill him. There's nothing natural about teleporting, after all, and he relies on it too much as it is.]

[It's fine.]

oh. sorry, guess it looks...hold on.

[He rubs the heel of his hand against the socket and forces the light to come back. The effort sends another jolt through his skull, but he feels the eyelight flicker back on and uncovers his eyesocket. If the light is a bit fuzzy around the edges it's probably nothing.]

there. that better?

[It's the best he can do right now, either way. He sighs and pushes himself off the wall, trying not to sway too much.]

we'd better keep moving.

Y- yeah. [Better. It doesn't really hide the fact that he feels like shit, though, does it? She can't imagine how he feels- she literally can't. If he's upset at her, or just aching all over, or having some sort of... internal crisis because, damn, there's one more time traveler in Wonderland. And when he fought her mirror, she hurt him... maybe he sees her like that, now.

She actually reaches out and touches his arm.]

Sans, wait, seriously... are you okay? Are you... I dunno, hella pissed at me? I wouldn't blame you if you got your rage on or...

[She trails off, worry etched on her face, pulling back her hand slowly.]
