+ Your Princess Is in another...Palace +

Who: Everyone!
Where: All over Wonderland
When: Friday, 8/24 - Monday, 8/27
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Palaces! This log is for Palace Rulers to post descriptions of their palaces, and for unaffected characters to wander in and out of them.
The Story:

Palace rulers: These are the characters who experience the bout of lightheadedness and spontaneously manifest a Palace starting at noon on 8/24. As soon as the palace forms, the character is essentially sucked into their Palace and made to play the part of the ruler.

These characters will forget they were ever in Wonderland or indeed had any other life outside of their Palace. If Character A's Palace took the form of her living her dream as a world-famous surfer where the oceans are made of cotton candy, she would always believe she'd been a surfer and that oceans have always been made of cotton candy. Any characters who entered her Palace would merely seem like visitors or intruders to the beach. Maybe they're surf fans, too?

It is possible to "wake" a Person from their Palace if one were to kill them (easy mode... if a bit violent) or make them see it's merely a mental construct (hard mode). If a person were to die inside their Palace, however, it would count as a mansion death. There are no real ways to "unmake" these Palaces other than to snap the person out of it or wait for them to run their course.

Palaces are tied to locations that characters frequent or find special meaning in. They do not outwardly change the appearance of the mansion--the clinic will still look like the clinic on the outside, but crossing inside takes you into the mental landscape of that affected character, and it may look however that player chooses it to.

Unaffected characters: Congratulations, you get to explore other characters’ inner world by visiting their Palaces! There is also a chance of danger should a character enter into a Palace whose ruler is likely to see them as a threat. Should Character A as described above not want a person there, sharks on legs might rise from the ocean and attempt to chase them off. (Sorry about that.)

However, there will always be a way to escape a Palace should you need to. There will always be a door leading back to the normal mansion, though no one else in the Palace will be able to see it aside from the unaffected character. If you entered the clinic and it's a barren hellscape, the clinic door will take you back out. Yay!

It is also possible for characters to see cognitive clones of themselves inside someone else's Palace if that person has a mental image of them. How these cognitive versions behave is, however, entirely up to the Palace ruler, whether realistic or not.

See the Bulletin Board for details on the event. You can also go to the plotting post to see what everyone else is doing!

[Kayo gasps despite herself, her ears suddenly full of ghost voices. But...she grips Jane's hand tightly and she does what she promised to do - she listens. They're voices. They're shadows. They don't have true power over them. But, this isn't Kayo's Palace. She's not sure she wants to make that gamble, so she takes a step backward, still holding her new friend's hand.

It's unwise to antagonize them, but the swell of voices seems like it demands to be heard - to be responded to.
]

...We won't forget you. I promise.

[They won't forget, but they can't stay either - not with the danger of these shadows growing. So, she turns to flee in the direction she came from, and pulling Jane along if she'll let her.]

[This was something she had always feared, even if it had never happened. The retribution of these things, the lashing out against loss-- she knew her job was to remember them. So was leaving forgetting? Was it really abandoning them?

Kayo moves and she follows, but she can't stay silent either.]

I'm not forgetting! You'll be with me, I swear! You, you don't hafta--

[She's struggling to run along after, feet getting caught on roots of trees and slipping on the ash across the floor. But the shadows move swiftly over the ground, unhindered, as they get closer and closer to closing the gap.]

[Kayo doesn't have to look behind them to know they're following, and she doesn't have to stop and turn around to shout at the voices tailing them.]

We won't forget!

[They won't forget and Kayo won't let go of Jane. Together they run and stumble on roots and run even more, and just when Kayo starts to wonder if they're going the right way she sees it - the door she came in.]

There! Can you see it?

[She knows by now that people in their palaces can't always see the door out of their palace right away, but hopefully they'll be able to escape either way.]

[At this point, on her own, Jane knows she'd have been overtaken. She had tried to run from them at one point, out of fear, defiance, something, but she could never make it. Her movements would crawl slower and slower and they'd descend on her before she'd wake back up somewhere else in the forest. It was impossible.

But she's not alone now. Not that she was ever alone truly with these memories, these wisps of people, but now she's actually not alone. This girl is her friend, and wants to help. And somehow, against all odds, it keeps them just a bit ahead of the game, enough for Kayo to see the door.]

No, I just-- just more forest!

[But she has to trust now, or-- something, she has to do something. So she closes her eyes, crushing down tears.]

I trust you! Just go!

[Maybe if Kayo can see things she can't, this will actually work.]
