It's covered in...god-knows-what. "Gotta get a new one of these!"

"How about worms in dirt? We could make chocolate pudding and then add gummy worms and cookie crumbs." Maggie is taking her cues from the disaster strewn throughout the kitchen. "Have you had that before? I can come up with other ideas until we find one you like."
no subject
Like a put a bug on another kid's pillow and watch him freak out streak.
"For science."

"It's only mean if you offer someone chocolate pudding and give them dirt instead. Giving someone nicer things than you offer them is just fine." Maggie: the best adult influence. She's grinning at Clementine, eyes sparkling.
"Maybe refrain from offering it to anyone who's fishing or gardening. They might be looking for real worms. Though I'd welcome a snack of pudding and gummy worms even when I'm in a garden."
no subject
"...do you think fish would like a gummy worm?"
no subject
"I come from a fishing town, and I can't say I've ever heard of anyone using gummy worms as bait," Maggie replies mildly, but then she echoes Clementine's words as she adds, "We could try it if you like, though. For science."

She goes there sometimes but hrm.

Maggie nods. "Let's get started on that. How ambitious are you feeling, honey? Pudding from scratch or from a mix?"
It breaks her heart a little, seeing Clementine so carefree, but she's going to do everything in her power to make sure the girl enjoys this, for however long it lasts.
no subject
"Let's do that."
no subject
"Alright, we'll need milk, eggs, cornstarch, sugar, cocoa powder, a dark chocolate bar, butter, and vanilla." Maggie writes down the list as she says each item.
"What made you decide today was a cooking day?" she asks Clementine.
no subject
"I like cooking. I always cooked with my mom before. I'd help mix up the cookies and put them on pans and dumped in the chocolate chips! When did you learn to cook?"
no subject
"I didn't do much cooking until I was grown up. I live alone out in the woods in my grandparents' old farmhouse, though I've got a regular rotation of houseguests. If I didn't learn how to cook, I'd have to hire a cook to live with me. Much better to learn." She grins playfully at Clementine, "Especially since people come back to visit more often if you feed them well."
no subject
That's the best place.
no subject
"Exactly. My strategy seems to be working!" Maggie grins at Clementine. "I'm not saying food alone is enough to win people over, but it's a very good start. We can declare our plates veggie free zones today if you want. You can't live forever without vegetables, but one day won't do any harm."
