Valentines is for friends too

Who: Yujinn, Lawr, Open
Where Kitchen
When: Valentine's Day (Noonish)
Rating: G
Summary: Yujinn is meeting up with friends.
the Story: Yujinn was in a cheerful mood. He was humming slightly as he cooked; making something fairly mild and a little sweet, since that seemed to be the order of the day for this holiday. He set the food on the table, the tea still heating on the stove. he'd taken the bread from the dining room, since he had no idea how to cook that on his own.

Since everything seemed done for the moment, he took a seat, readjusting the barrette in his hair, since it was only mid-way down his back now, and not the length he liked for braiding it.

Lawr was grinning when he finally wandered into the kitchen. It smelled delicious, as it always did when Yuujin was cooking. He had a talent for the culinary arts, that much was clear. He'd introduced Lawr to some very new and interesting dishes in the time they'd known each other; dinner always felt like an adventure.

The boy had clearly not bothered to dress up for the event, but that wasn't to say he looked particularly bad. He was definitely the sort of person that looked good in anything he wore, even when what he wore was a pair of black leather pants and a dark gray shirt that was so large he seemed to be swimming in it.

"Mm. I'm surprised Seeu didn't want to keep you all to himself tonight."

Lawr smiled faintly, taking a seat at the center island. It sounded like a very nice thing, to have someone who cared enough to surprise you like that. Lawr hadn't known something like that since he'd run away from home. Even if his parents were overbearing at times, they still planned surprises now and again.

This was close, though. Someone cooking dinner for you was always nice. And what a fabulous dinner it was shaping up to be! His mouth was watering at the scent of the chicken, and he was eying the couscous a bit warily. (He'd never seen rice that tiny before.)

Lawr shrugged at the question. In truth, the boy was a glutton for punishment, and he'd relished every letter with a bit of heartache and the mantra in his mind: At least they cared enough to write...

"They're not as bad as people say... some of them are actually kind of funny. I got one from my br-- from Dallas. He called me a nancy and a chickenfaggot. ...I don't even know what that means."

"Me neither," for Lawr, however, it sounded quite sincere.

Lawr took up a fork and reached over to the serving plate, snagging a few pieces of chicken and eating them right off. Who needed to serve it on separate plates when you could dig in right at the source? Something told him Yujinn wouldn't care much either way.

"...I did get one really sweet one, though. I kind of hope everyone keeps reading their letters. That one nice one really does make up for all the rotten ones."

Lawr nodded and reached over to scoop a bit of couscous onto his plate.; the start of another culinary adventure. He took a small, tentative bite... followed by his brow rising as he began shoveling it into his mouth.

"S'good..." he muttered between bites.

Lawr quite suddenly looked very sheepish, and sank down in his chair as he chewed very slowly and set his fork aside. He was staring at the counter as he answered quietly,

"N- not too much. I'm sorry..."

It wasn't not practicing that made him feel bad, per se; rather, the fact that it had been so long since his last lesson that he'd totally forgotten that he needed to practice at all. That was what the sheepish look was about. Then again, he wasn't about to explain all that.

"Yeah," he broke into the couscous again, a more hesitantly than before. "I guess it doesn't."

Lawr smiled meekly as he slowly extended his hand to Yujinn.

Sorry. Hiatus. Back now.

Lawr repeated the phrase carefully, albeit with a bit of a mispronunciation toward the end. He frowned, trying again just a bit more slowly. His face broke into an amazed smile as a small pixie-light flickered in his palm.

Lawr was still grinning like an idiot when he took his hand back, staring intently at the light for a few moments before it flickered out of existence. Even if it was gone, he felt like he could still feel the heat of something in the palm of his hand.

"I guess..."

[identity profile] tagged-tongue.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
That sounded like a useful one too. Lawr was a bit clumsy at times. It would be a very practical thing for him to know. The food was forgotten, his attention turned solely to Yujinn's instruction now.

"That sounds helpful," he gushed, trying and failing to not sound as excited as he was.

"It's better than not being able to do anything about it... I hate papercuts. Especially if I don't have a band-aid."

He wished he had known a spell like this when he was working back home. He didn't want to think about how often he couldn't sit from being sore in areas he didn't want to think about either. He tried to repeat the spell, closing his eyes and leaning forward a bit in concentration. Commit it to memory, commit it to memory...

Lawr didn't know how he could be sure this was working. He was a bit more confident in his ability than he'd been previously, but he still felt he needed some assurance. Perhaps it was this strange line of reasoning that led him to take his knife up and drag a shallow laceration through the tip of his index finger.

He hissed in a quiet breath, frowning a little as blood pooled to the surface around the blade. But he just as quickly dropped the knife and began determinedly muttering the rhyme Yuujin just taught him.

Lawr smiled a bit when he managed to knit the wound closed. His skin looked as if it were creeping back together, like two ants marching toward each other and then becoming one. It was still tender, still quite obvious beneath the superficial layers... but it was a start.

"...I never ever thought I'd be able to do things like this. And I definitely didn't think I'd be learning from an angel."
