The Story:

And so it begins.

Throughout the mansion faded images will flicker in and out – ghosts of Wonderland's future. These ghosts can be of anyone, from any point in the next five years. They will play on repeat, as Wonderland's Chess Piece Ghosts have in the past, and they will offer brief glimpses into the future for anyone who witnesses them.

They cannot be stopped, and the images cannot be changed or altered. This isn't to say that the future can't eventually be changed, of course, but there is nothing that anyone can do over the course of this event that will change the contents of these imprints.

::Ed thinks about that last day when everything went so horribly wrong.::

She wanted him to eat the Stone. I'm not sure why. I was, uh, kinda busy and not paying full attention to whatever the fuck she was saying.

Well, that seems like a waste. [Greed grins- it's easier now, with the future temporarily banned from conversation.] Then again, I guess what yours ate stayed in the universe, right?

::Okay, enough of Gluttony because he doesn't need to be thinking about That Night.::

Uh, anyway, provided they have a steady supply of Red Stones, they'll be around for-frigging-ever provided they don't run into someone that can take them down permanently. And you can see why they follow her right there. Noooooooot a whole lotta people willing to make and give them Red Stones out of the goodness of their hearts.

::Now he pauses a moment.::

Okay, Greed went 'fuck you' at her at some point, really pissing her off. He ended up getting locked up for 140 years. Apparently, there's some array that keeps homunculii from being able to even fucking twitch.

::Isn't Greed glad he wasn't that Greed?::

Not bright enough to bail without giving notice, huh?

[Yeah, the last thing Greed wants is to find any point of identification with that other one- the one that had stayed dead. Especially not now.]

Don't look at me, my mother wasn't alive yet at the time, much less me.

::A thought occurs to him and he gives Greed a sidelong look, looking for the best time for the next words to come out of his mouth.::

You wear that abortion of a vest and jacket too?

[Greed has a much better sense of style than Edward does, thank you very much!]

::Ed snickers.::

I'm assuming that's a 'yes'.

::And Ed thinks the stuff he used to wear was awesome, thank you very much.::

Do you still put horned skulls on everything you touch?

::Ed blinks at Greed.::

...I'm pretty sure that's just your world's Edward.

[He does not believe you. Tacky teenage-boy taste is one of the defining characteristics that marks an Edward!]

::Ed gives him an affronted look and holds up his half-empty glass of whiskey.::

Do you see anything here that shouldn't be?

::Maybe so, but his tackiness took a different form.::

Other than a kid who doesn't know what hanging up means? [There's no bite to it- he's actually kind of glad to have Ed here talking about Something Not That- but he's not just going to not say it.]

::Ed just raises his eyebrow at that.::

If you didn't think that I belonged here at least some of the time, you would have just ignored me when I first arrived in this place.

That was assuming you decided I wasn't your problem when you found out I was from the wrong version of home.

::Ed drinks a little more. He's taking it easy with the drinking, so most of the contents of his glass is still there.::

Let a little thing like that stop me? You know better. [His smile is sharp and fond.]

Mmm. ::Ed shifts uncomfortably. It's not like he got to know his Greed that well and gain insights from that. Granted, his time traveling with Martel resulted in learning things... Okay, time for a subject change.::

Been wondering if it's occurred to you to prepare yourself for having to deal with two Edwards at once in the event of people getting out of here on our own and therefore in control of where we go. You ready for the inevitable headaches?

::Now his tone has slid to amused. Teaming up with the other Edward to drive Greed insane could be fun.::

You kidding? I always want more of everything. [Besides, he's pretty sure they'd each be too busy bemoaning the other's accusing him of shortness by existing to give him much grief.]

::They might get distracted by that for awhile yes, but eventually they'll have more important or interesting things on their plate.::
