Summary:

• This log is intended to give everybody a good overview of where in Wonderland which ghosts can be found. It can be used as a reference for other posts, or to thread encounters too short to warrant their own entry.

The Story:

And so it begins.

Throughout the mansion faded images will flicker in and out – ghosts of Wonderland's future. These ghosts can be of anyone, from any point in the next five years. They will play on repeat, as Wonderland's Chess Piece Ghosts have in the past, and they will offer brief glimpses into the future for anyone who witnesses them.

They cannot be stopped, and the images cannot be changed or altered. This isn't to say that the future can't eventually be changed, of course, but there is nothing that anyone can do over the course of this event that will change the contents of these imprints.

Uhh, yeah. I'd... say it is.

[Blake examines it all a little closer, but there's no telling exactly what's happening. It seems like Helena's helping out, but what is it that she's helping out with?

He turns back to Wells and tips his head sideways a bit.]

Kind of a long story, to say the least. Don't s'pose you like story time, do you?

Actually, I do.

[ It happened to be one of her favourite things, actually. Stories, literature. Anything ]

Is it the kind of story we need something with?

[ Do they need tea or was it far too drastic for that? ]

Uh, if somethin's a stiff drink, maybe.

[He rubs his eyes tiredly and then takes it upon himself to sit on the edge of Helena's bed, just making himself at home, yep. From that seat, he looks up at Wells.]

Where I come from, crime's outta control. Police that aren't corrupt are pretty powerless. So, one day, a regular citizen decided to fight back. Trained, put on a mask an' a cape, took to the night.

[A breath. He has to try... Focusing on HG, he raises both eyebrows high on his head, and goes completely off tangent.]

Don't s'pose you'd believe those're pajamas.

[ Sadly she has no stiff drinks in her room, so how about that tea? She'll just start on it whether he wants it or not ]

I wouldn't now.

[ She possibly also wouldn't before, although she wasn't quite certain as to what pyjamas consisted of now, other than what she wore ]

How far did this man get in the fight?

[ For now she's assuming that he means him, and will unless he says anything to the contrary - she has no reason to not assume it was him, not after what she saw ]

[For all intents and purposes, there's no getting around the fact that Blake's wearing the costume. It's Nomex, not cotton, and it's obviously armor. Still, he presses on with his story.]

Pretty far. Saved the city. More'n a few times. An' then... [He lets out a breath.] He died. The guy — Gotham's protector — was dead. [Not Bruce himself, no, but the Batman? That Batman was gone.]

Someone had to take over. Couldn't just leave it. Just so happens, the Batman kinda felt the same. Left me the mantle, which was okay, 'cause I was lookin' to make a change, anyway.

[Not the most elegant summary, but it should get the point across, right?]

'Bout the long an' short of it.

Were you looking for this specifically when he gave you it?

[ And how did this other man know that John was looking for something like this? There were a lot of questions, more than she would ask. Not all were needed answers for the moment ]

Do you have it here? What you were wearing?

Wasn't lookin' for that, no. But something. Some way to make a change. [And then he runs a hand through his hair and nods.] Do got it here, yeah. Wear it once in a while.

[He reaches out and touches Helena's elbow.] Listen, you gotta keep this between us, okay? Not everyone knows... It's important they don't. For as long as possible. Hopefully for as long as I'm here.

Then luckily I do know the concept of a secret. [ That had been around when she'd been born. But she could see it too, perhaps not immediately but from his request, and looking back at his reactions. His surprise, his wish to dodge from the explanation. He didn't wish it known ] I have a few of my own.

[ A few just as complicated, or dangerous. Or more. And a lot of those that she wouldn't want exposed either - unintentionally or otherwise ]

It's safe.

[He means that, he really does. He's relieved, to say the least. And he's oddly unburdened knowing that it's someone like Helena keeping his secret. Honestly, she's in good company.]

Guess I owe you a few more answers if you've got questions, in that case.

There's just one.

[ For now, at least. Any others she would let come out when he was a little more comfortable about his secret - or in telling her. By his choices ]

You saw the rest of the ghosts image. What would I have been giving you?

[ But that was no doubt a difficult to answer question. They hadn't seen what it was, but she wondered whether there was anything specific he would have wanted ]

[Blake has to consider it for a moment, his mind drifting back to everything he's learned and everything he might still learn.]

Guess, from the looks of it, might be some kinda tech. Maybe fixin' somethin' for me? Said you're pretty handy, didn't you?

I have been known to be.

[ It's accompanied by a semi-cheeky smile. But it's also true - she hasn't made anything in quite some time ]

Apparently I will be again. I have- I am an inventor. [ She didn't exactly lose how to be ]

[He smiles a little.] Yeah? Guess that explains how we got hooked up.

[Blake gestures behind him toward the door because they are in Helena's room and would have to leave in order to do the very next thing Blake suggests.] You wanna check out my setup? Might as well... [Secrecy? What's that?]

[ Now that offer gets him a look of intrigue. And a very well hidden excitement that would say 'I wouldn't miss it for the world' ]

I would like that.

[ And she smiles, starting to make her way out ]

Just how few know of this?

Not few enough, if I'm bein' honest. [He follows along with her, heading for the fourth floor. There's a ghost image he really doesn't want Helena to see, but it's outweighed by his desire to clear some things up for the both of them.] Just you an' one other, far as I know.

If there's something that I can do that would help settle you on my silence then I will. [ Although she doesn't quite know herself what she would have to do - she's only ever had to hold her own secrets ]

[He takes the stairs and it's not far down the hall to his room from there.]

All things considered, pretty sure I'm gonna know where to look if somethin' like this gets out. Just gonna trust you, Helena. No reason not to.

Then I hope that I never give you a reason to doubt that.

[ And she could, Helena knew that. She'd lost Myka's trust once before, and her previous actions made it hard to trust her initially ]

Is there anything that I should expect there?

Uh, yeah. Coupla ghosts that don't belong. Really don't belong.

[But that's really not all that pertinent, as evidenced by Blake pushing his door open upon arrival and ushering Helena in. Thankfully, a good portion of Crowley and Blake's ghostly make out session is obscured by screens purposefully placed previously.]

Gimme a sec to get the stuff. [A gesture and he disappears into the bathroom. The rest of the room is old, all hard wood and wallpaper. Blake keeps it clean, including the desk and very full bookshelves.]

Alright then.

[ Helena doesn't exactly nosy per se, she values privacy, and for the trust that he's placing in her she isn't about to simply look around uninvited or unwanted. She isn't going to risk it on a simple curiosity, especially when it isn't her business. What she does do whilst she waits though is at least glance about her surroundings - just from the spot. Taking in his decor, how his room is, trying to get a little more measure of the man that she will apparently get to know better than she does now ]

I can see why we would be friends.

[ Or better friends, if she's able to call him such already. They're friendly already, at least. It's a comment that's said with much warmth though. It didn't take her too long to spot his bookshelves - and the crowding that would define them ]

[ When he returns, he's got his cowl and part of the chest plate of the high tech Nomex armor. The famed utility belt dangles around his arm, and there's no doubting that all of it weighs a bit when you consider the heft of just these pieces. ]

Yeah?

[ Despite the subject matter and everything crazy at hand, he can't help but smile at the unexpected connection. ]

Love to read. Favorite pastime, actually.

[ Without comment, he offers over his cowl in much the same way he had in the ghostly image. Clearly it was the same piece their future selves had been looking at. ]

'We shall not cease from exploration'.

[ She might have been quoting a little, and surprisingly a rather modern quote but it shows enough - she's read a lot in her time back. She doesn't expect the quote to be recognised, although it would be nice if it was, but it's still something true. Reading is exploring, and something of what they do also is

Helena lets silence fall as she takes the cowl, turning it over in her hands before looking at the chest piece and utility belt that he was also holding. It was quite a set up ]

There wouldn't happen to be anything that you need?

[ Any tools, anything to help him. She'd given that offer once, or would give it. Why not start now? ]

[ He grins, a little too optimistically, if we're being honest. He doesn't recognize the source, but he recognizes it as a quote, and finds he rather likes it. And the offer, too, which he can't deny is probably the most positive thing he can think of to help him in his own pursuits to be better at what he does.

It's been very difficult without support. Bruce has Alfred and Lucius and money — so much money — and Blake has Wonderland and all it has to offer. He had to cobble together what he does have. Thankfully, he's a pretty sharp guy.

But he can't do it all alone. Having Helena and Dean around might be just what he needs by way of good support. ]

Don't s'pose you've got an interest in helpin' me make some crowd control stuff, do you? Smoke grenades? Supernatural smoke grenades? That kinda thing?

[ Nothing simple, of course, but he cans explain the necessity if she agrees. ]

I may need to look up a few things for them. [ Such as... what they are. Whilst she knows the technical details of them - bomb, smoke, et cetera, she hasn't quite looked into creating anything of the sort. Bombs weren't her forte in inventing, but it didn't sound like there wasn't a reason for it ]

How urgent is the need? [ How bad can it get? Is she going to have to make herself a handy little electrical device? She's had yet a need for a Tesla here yet and she's liked that. Never been a fan of guns ]

Not all that urgent. [ Blake rubs at his chin, trying to imagine how Bruce approached Lucius about his gear. Odds were pretty good that he hadn't minced words, but then again, most of the equipment already belonged to him.

He considers their options and then nods, gesturing to the cowl. ] Maybe we can start simple. You wanna keep that a while? Check it out in your spare time? Got some tech and all kinds of things you can mess with.

[ It's not something new, no, but it might give her a better idea of the level of work he needs help with. ]
