☾ nightfury at the gates (open)

Who: Toothless and you.
Where: Outside the mansion, pretty much anywhere.
When: 6/23
Rating: This is a kid's movie! (G. I'll update if it changes!)
Summary: Toothless arrives back at the mansion without any memory of it. ...'Arrives' is probably oversimplifying it. 'Crashes' is more accurate.

The Story:

It's funny, but Toothless doesn't remember hedges in Berk. He doesn't even know what a hedge is, in fact, but the shape in front of him strikes him as Viking-made. Plants don't actually grow like that, do they? Is he on some weird new island where the plants are different?

All he remembers is flying — and then not flying.

Speaking of which, with a quiet cry of alarm, the Nightfury lurches to his feet. Hiccup! Was he thrown clear? Where is he? The area around him is large, and he can also smell — is that a beach, maybe beyond the treeline? For a moment, he stands unnaturally still, trying to pinpoint the sound of his best friend's voice. But all he hears are unfamiliar voices, and the rustling of wind through trees. It only makes the thrill of horror in his chest greater, and Toothless immediately sets off at a run.

Or he tries to, at least.

His thoughts being as distracted as they are, his mad dash is foiled by the fish pond being in the way. The Nightfury plunges, unintentionally, underneath the surface, and comes up with wide green eyes, scrambling for the shore amidst the frantic movements of fish beneath him. Such is the gravity of the situation that the fish don't even factor into his mind, just yet. He comes back up on land and this time sets off at a much more successful run, soaking wet and wings tucked tight to his body for greater speed.

Every once in a while, he lets out a loud, long, distressed sounding call — sort of the dragon version of Hey! Where are you? With the speed of his movements, hopefully no one will find themselves in his way.

[ooc: Both prose and action spam are fine by me.]

The harness draws her attention, making her lean over just a bit to take a peek at his back.

"Oh, I see!" She takes a few steps closer, peering at the harness. "You've got some fancy contraption thing going on."

And that's when she notices his tail, the part of the harness that's substituting for what he's missing. She frowns, patting the side of his neck in sympathy. "Ouch. That must of hurt, buddy."

It's not very subtle at all, and she lets out a laugh as she starts to scratch. This dragon is much sweeter than she ever imagined a dragon could be. She's sure there's plenty of dragon aggro under that cute exterior, but he seems to know she's not a threat.

"This is so rad." She says happily as she scratches away. "I mean, I've totally had daydreams about meeting dragons and having one as a friend, but they're usually all fire breath-y and grr, you know?"

And as she gives him many loving scritches, she starts to ponder important things. Like his name.

"I'd ask what you're called, but I dunno if you can tell me."

Her head tilts just the slightest as she watches him, brow furrowed. Okay, so dragons wouldn't know sign language (not that she really knows it, right) so she figures there'll be a little bit of trouble in the communication department.

"Oh! Uh, Gummy?" As she says it, her nose wrinkles. "Okay, that doesn't seem to fit so I'm probably wrong there. Toothy? Toothless? Chomper?"

Naturally, she doesn't pause as she gives these answers - the words are said in a bit of a rush and she sorta laughs at her. "I should give you a chance to give me an answer. Am I on the right track?"

Okay, she can pick up on that hint. Looks like she's in the right naming neighborhood.

"Let me do this again, and you can have a chance to let me know when I hit the jackpot." Charlie plops down on the ground, her fear completely forgotten at this point. He's not going to eat her or turn her into redhead barbecue anytime soon, so why not chill for a bit? "Was I in the ballpark with Toothy or Toothless?"

His acknowledge is enough for her, and she looks very pleased with herself.

"Toothless it is, then!" She reaches out, patting his nose very gently. Wait a minute...he is a he...isn't he?

Looking confused for just a second, she leans forward a little to study him, mouth pursed. "You are a boy - male, right?"

"That's what I thought. Guess it was the lack of a pink bow or something around your neck." She teases, caught up in the excitement of making a new scaly friend. If she still kept a journal, it would be the most ridiculous entry.

Dear Diary I met a dragon - it was so rad.

As it is, she wants to give her new buddy a present! That nature urge to feed a friendly animal is strong, and she pushes herself up, brushing her pants off. "Wanna play a game of 'Teach Charlie what kind of food you like'?"

Laughing, she pushes herself up to stand, brushing off her jeans. "Okay, Mission: Noms is on!"

Dragons can't be too finicky, right? She scans the area, humming to herself as she thinks.

"You go for the leafy green goodness?" Probably not, but that would at least knock out all the vegetation in the area. That's a lot of plants and trees, dude.

She follows right along, still amazed at how easy it is to communicate with him. This is a way different experience than she's had with animals in the past.

The pond is obviously his destination, and so she passes him to reach the edge of it, crouching down to peer into the water. The fish swam in a weirdly frantic manner, as if they know their time has come. They are about to become Dinner.

Or lunch. Whatever - just food.

"Seafood it is, then." Charlie shoots a grin over at Toothless before looking back at the fish. "Now to figure out a way to get them out..."

A problem solved quickly when she spies a long pole with a net at the end, leaning against a nearby tree as if someone had forgotten it. Wow, the help these days just isn't doing their job, are they?

No matter. She's grabbing the pole and back at the edge of the pond in no time, dipping the net inside to catch her new buddy a few fish.
