[while Dipper examines the rift and does nerd things, Mabel's been sitting cross-legged on the floor watching him and looking bored. to be perfectly, honest, she was actually wishing a tall attractive guy would come through that rift AND WOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED.

she jumps to her feet.] Razzle dazzle! Wishes do come true!

[ofletters]

[ Sam stumbles a little, getting his bearings when he crosses over. At the sound of voices, he grabs for the pistol stuck in his back pocket... but it's children, he thinks, and slows. ]

... Mirrors? [ He questions, though there's no way to tell whether or not their answers are true. If they stop him, they stop him. ... Or, they'll try. ]

[krmvgivv]

Nope, Reals. [Dipper frowns and squints at him suspiciously.] ....you?

[He thinks that a Mirror wouldn't bother to use the rips. But what does he know? Maybe that's what this Mirror wants them to think.]

[powerofmabel]

[He's a real hunk, that's for sure. Mabel leans forward, curious. It'd be just her luck that all the pretty guys falling into the hallway would be Mirrors, but she still looks hopeful.]

No. [ He holds up his hands defensively; Mirrors or not, they're just kids, and he's not about to shoot either of them. Sam half-glances at Mable, who he's just really noticed, and thinks briefly, horrifyingly, of Becky Rosen. ]

... Name's Sam. [ He glances back to Dipper. ] What're you doing over here? It isn't safe.

[krmvgivv]

[Dipper rolls his eyes, putting a hand on Mabel's shoulder to reel her back. Grown-ups. Always playing the "it isn't safe" card. Like doing things that are safe ever got anyone anywhere.] I notice you're over here too.

And I appreciate that.

[Mabel's helping. She's helping by... being a teenage girl making moon eyes at Sam's prettiness.]

[ Sorry, Dipper. He's saved way too many kids in his lifetime not to worry about you two now. Though, he also knows how strong they can be (he met the Antichrist, after all, and Jesse had more power than anyone). ]

You're right. [ And he shrugs weakly. ] I'm looking for something.

[ He won't say "the Core," because "it's dangerous," etc., etc. ]

What're you two up to?

Investigating. [The core and the mirror side in general in Dipper's case. How long one can stare at a hot boy before your eyes fall out in Mabel's case, apparently.] What are you looking for?

A good woman? [He's too old for her. She knows this. She's still gonna raise her eyebrows and grin, because the opening was too good to resist. Also it's fun to make Dipper roll his eyes and he really needs to lighten up on this adventure.]

Sam does a quick double-take, his mouth slightly open, frowning before turning back to Dipper. ]

... The same. Trying to get to the Core, actually. [ Ten out of ten doctors recommend that you don't ever go looking for the Core. ] And whatever else we can find on this side.

[Dipper's eyes are rolling so hard they might fall out of their sockets so good job Mabel you succeeded.]

It'll take away your memories.

[TWELVE, OKAY. SHE'S TWELVE. ALMOST THIRTEEN. SHE IS A WOMAN NOW.]

Unless you have a mirror! Or some other thing... [shruuuug] We're working on that.

If that's all it does and we can learn anything about it, then it's worth it.

[ Sam isn't the type to put himself before other people, and something as trivial as a memory... he shrugs lightly at the two. ]

Maybe it could help us.

It's not all it does. It's also really, really bright and makes you feel like you're gonna vomit. [It's very frustrating. Dipper scowls.] It might take a little more than that to get anything useful.

Like double sunglasses! [yes, mabel. exactly like that.]

I've been there before; I know what it does.

[ Why is this kid treating him like- well, like he's the kid? Sam frowns dubiously, then glances to Mabel. ]

... Uh. "Double sunglasses?"

Or a really complicated series of mirrors and lenses and devices that refract light ending at some sort of camera.

[Probably more effective than double sunglasses.]

Sunglasses on top of sunglasses.

[that's Mabel's response. he asked her what she meant. she will answer him.] Or we could do the nerd thing. The closets still work over here, and they don't even give you the opposite of what you asked for, like you'd expect.

[Or maybe she was the only one who expected that.]

[ Well, well. They're quick, he can tell, and smart; both seem casually very bright and he nods slowly, considering. ]

And you never know which memory you'll lose... before or after, which makes it tough. If they're feeding the Core, I doubt they can be taken back again later on.

[ Which might change things if he thought they were hidden away. ]

Wait, can you normally get memories back? [Dipper and Mabel have looked at the core once already, and though he's not sure what they've forgotten, he'd like to know if there's ever a way to take back memories. Sacrifices for Science are one thing and probably worth it, but what if he loses something important?]

[powerofmabel]

And why would the Core eat memories? [she looks hesitantly at Dipper. it sounds like the kind of creepy brain juju Bill has going on. only with more eating and less breaking all the metaphorical furniture.]

I don't know about here, but I've lost some memories back home and then had them returned.

[ Usually by angels. Dicks.

To Mabel, he frowns slightly. ]

Not sure. I'd guess that it... uses them, somehow. To make the crazy changes in the mansion that we have to fight through, maybe?

The memories are what powers this place. [He frowns.] Seems to have gone pretty wrong, though.

Is that why people are all like [she puts on a spooky voice] "hey guys everything that's happening is something that happened to me at home?" [and then follows it up by whistling creepily... or trying to. her braces make that hard.]
