Summary: Let's go to this creepy tavern and ask for some directions! A log for staying nice and dry inside.
The Story:




For the duration of the event, the mansion has become a dingy tavern. It has two floors, the bottom being the main tavern and the upper floor has six bedrooms with one bed and one magic closet in each room for everyone to fight over, unless they don't mind sleeping on the floor or in the tavern somewhere. With the amount of people in Wonderland, everyone is cramped together and it will be very crowded. The closets will work, however they will only provide clothing and items from time periods long gone (though they do not seem to be bound to any particular time period). There are no employees to be found in the Tavern, but there's a working kitchen with a wood fire stove and enough food and drink for everyone to last the entire event comfortably. There's even a stage with musical instruments to entertain yourselves with! There's no electricity, but plenty of candles and lanterns around.

For the entire length of the event, it will be dark outside. In addition to the never-ending night, it will pour for four days straight, and it will all seem rather ominous once it becomes apparent the sun isn't coming out. Pretty much all signs will suggest that everyone should stay in the tavern and eat, drink, and be merry with their stupid new names. But it really is tight quarters, and some might be curious to see what else is out there. Maybe there's another place to stay out there, or something. Maybe the Beast Alice spoke of is out there.

[The Operator groans and glances towards the window as though expecting trouble to burst through there and then.]

You're just tempting fate saying that. But you're right. It'll probably find us.

I guess. Operators like me are pretty essential where I'm from though. It has a whole different set of connotations.

[He smiles and shakes his head.]

It's okay. Really. I'm not offended. Different things get to different people.

I... I dunno. It's been my entire life. Doesn't seem very sci-fi to me I guess. It's just normal.

I guess, yeah.

[What a way to make a first impression. Ugh. Doesn't help that he's planning to venture out into the dark and stormy night in search of the very thing he just mistook this guy to be.

He glances over his shoulder, then back at Sam.]

I should bounce. I'll, uh, I'll catch you later.

[Not that Alex will lose any sleep over it.

He's already losing enough sleep as it is.]

Wow, okay. Maybe it’s more abstract and less an object and more...physical, so…

[She looks toward another person.]

The red head over there?

No, that'd be even more colder.

[He grins wider, all in good fun, though. He almost wants to say where she should be looking and how she should focus on objects/clothing again but he holds it in.]

It's not red hair either.

No, really. The more the better.

'Something like that' sounds suspiciously not like the whole story, but he supposes that if the Wardens are some sort of weird, medieval secret society that he's bound to secrecy under threat of death or something to that effect. He purses his lips once Alistair gives his name, though, letting his lips twitch into a wry smile.

"The Bastard. I'm guessing that's a literal title, as opposed t'you being an asshat to the people that you meet." Just based on their interactions so far, at least. "Trust me, sometimes y'don't miss much havin' a father around."

Especially an abusive, violent one.

"Now that's a spell I've been trying to figure out for a while. Alas, perfection takes time," he says on a mournful note. Lowering himself back down into his chair, he stretches his leg out, one ankle resting over the other. "This places already makes it look easy, and anyway, according to you I'm an oracle with prophecies of the future. I could have a divine gift. That's pretty impressive, isn't it?"

Anders would be the first to admit that the future has outgrown simple omens and tea readings, however. If he hadn't thought so before, the last few hours have definitely had him rethinking his stance on what it means for multiple people from Thedas to remember different events in time.

What if those differing events actually existed? It's unthinkably crazy, and his will to drink the implications away has him bringing his mug down on the table just a second or two slower than Alistair. "I let you win that!" he protests before he can process Alistair's comment. He laughs under his breath. "That's because there's no dwarves here. Where would the rest of us take our brawls? Outside with the monster who supposedly turns people into oil?"

Creepy.

Figured that out, did you. Though I'm flattered to think the very sight of me fills you with sunshine and joy, so much so you can't contain it.

_{[Anders drops his arms back to his sides, trying to assemble his thoughts into some semblance of order in contrast to the blithe exterior he projects. A case of someone mistaking his identity would be nothing to think twice about back home, but in this place a person can't be too sure...]}

Well, Lothering explains the refugee part well enough--I'd heard the darkspawn overran it--but sorry to say, I haven't been to the Free Marches. Whoever you met in Kirkwall, it wasn't me.

It was pretty chaotic. [He nods in agreement.] Last Christmas was, too, but it was chaotic in a more dangerous way.

Maybe it was giving us a break this year or something. I don't know if Wonderland's at all sentient, but if it is, it has to do that kind of thing on purpose.

Hey, yeah, you could be right about that. I-it doesn't hurt to hope for the best or anything. You know? There's plenty of woods out there for everyone to be walking around in, and-- and they could just, they could miss each other without even thinking about it. Like, uh. Like crazy destiny.

O-oh, don't worry about it, it's fine. I mean, when terrible stuff like that's happened to you, i-it's probably good to get to complain about it sometimes. Like, bullying is probably-- that's the kinda thing that anyone should be allowed to not be happy about, right?

[Wirt makes a bit of a face, because he doesn't really want to call his friends dumb, but...he can't argue. They're being pretty dumb.]

Yeah...yeah, I guess so. I dunno. [He's so torn bout everything.] I mean, there's a lot of events where people are just guessing what's going on...it's kind of good to know what's happening for once. Right?

[Ahh, the socially awkward teenage years. At least the Author of the Journals is sympathetic to those. He just shrugs and takes what the Pilgrim said as a compliment. It is, really.]

And you should! Observation and questioning always inevitably lead to the truth. Now, what was I going to ask you? [A beat.] OH! Yes! The Beast! What can you tell me about him?

Can't be more frustrating than unicorns at least. Huh. [Magic scissors? That sounds like something out of a fairytale. Ford is interested, but distracted by Dipper's offer of help.]

Perfect! I'll scout ahead, just in case, and then we can explore together.

[Only the Author of the Journals, Pine Tree and Shooting Star would be excited about heading into a dark, rainy forest.]

Exactly! There's so many Wonderfriends I don't have yet. So many people I've never seen shake their groove thing, 'cause they're too wound up all the time. Maybe even the Pilgrim would finally loosen up if he got a black eye from some heavy raving.

[in these moments, it's clear mabel has never been in a real mosh pit save for that time at Woodstick or a rave, but even if she had, she'd still think all these things need to be combined for both efficiency and more fun.]
