Tavern Mingle (INSIDE) | OPEN

Who: EVERYONE
Where: The Dark Lantern Tavern!
When: 1/15/16 -1/18/16 - The duration of the event!
Rating: Probably PG-13, will vary by thread.
Summary: Let's go to this creepy tavern and ask for some directions! A log for staying nice and dry inside.
The Story:

For the duration of the event, the mansion has become a dingy tavern. It has two floors, the bottom being the main tavern and the upper floor has six bedrooms with one bed and one magic closet in each room for everyone to fight over, unless they don't mind sleeping on the floor or in the tavern somewhere. With the amount of people in Wonderland, everyone is cramped together and it will be very crowded. The closets will work, however they will only provide clothing and items from time periods long gone (though they do not seem to be bound to any particular time period). There are no employees to be found in the Tavern, but there's a working kitchen with a wood fire stove and enough food and drink for everyone to last the entire event comfortably. There's even a stage with musical instruments to entertain yourselves with! There's no electricity, but plenty of candles and lanterns around.

For the entire length of the event, it will be dark outside. In addition to the never-ending night, it will pour for four days straight, and it will all seem rather ominous once it becomes apparent the sun isn't coming out. Pretty much all signs will suggest that everyone should stay in the tavern and eat, drink, and be merry with their stupid new names. But it really is tight quarters, and some might be curious to see what else is out there. Maybe there's another place to stay out there, or something. Maybe the Beast Alice spoke of is out there.

(Lost? Perhaps you're looking for the outside log or the event information.)

The Queens?

The Queen of Hearts is here?

[She is familiar with that woman. If it was even the same woman.]

[Wirt leaving his sentence unfinished leaves Victor to fill in the blank. Wirt had thought since he's...?

Ah. Now he sees. He's a man who'd turned a light on the mysteries of death, and here's a boy who think he's teetering between life and death. As Wirt wilts like a starved flower does Victor starts to comprehend why Wirt had chosen him, of all people, to depart this secret to. Naturally he'd be looking be looking for a definitive answer--and Victor must appear like a respectable source.]

Pilgrim.

[Breathing out, Victor says his title to get his attention, tone gentling.]

Look here, would you give me your hand?

Better than living your whole life on a ship. Clarke doesn't know if that's true. Since they got down to the ground, it's been one attempt on their lives after another. Apparently, ignorance to their existence isn't a good enough reason to avoid war with another faction.

Still, she's pleased that they teach some things where he's from. History is good — Clarke likes history. Learning about how people used to grow up on the ground, with houses and trees and swimming pools. She's never seen a pool in real life, only books.

"Religion? Which religion?"

Worship has mostly fallen out of vogue; sure, it still exists, but it's certainly not as widespread as it appeared to be in history. There are no Crusades. She supposes the clans in the woods have religion, but Clarke's never gotten close enough to ask. They're more interested in slicing her neck than having a cultural exchange.

So, it's interesting. Something she'd like to learn more about. Knowledge is power, as they say.

[Shit. Maybe that came off too...nihilistic? Depressing?]

well, i dunno. just think it's better to laugh at stuff than get upset, you know? same with other people. make them laugh so they don't have to worry about something.

[There, that sounds better.]

"Well, yes -- blood's a powerful spell agent, no matter the sort. The darker the magic, the more specific they are -- at least, that's what it seems like." Yeah, Bobby's done his share of simple spells and that sort of thing to summon demons and track people when he can, but that's about the extent of his power.

"Anything that has 'vital' power, so to speak, can be used. Hair, skin, nails...that sort of thing's a bit easier and more inconspicuous to gather, if you're the baddie planning to hex your spurned lover or somethin'."

So that there is an invitation to sneak up on Anders when he least expects it and give him the most bone-crushing hug imaginable. Good to know.

Especially given the sinking feeling he gets to the mention of Antivan tavern songs. Why does he get the feeling that Anders and Zevran meeting would be a terrible thing? And up until now he wouldn't have minded seeing the assassin again just to have a familiar face around.

"Right. Only if you don't mind me maybe shattering your eardrums along with them. But it's your loss." Assuming Alistair himself loses this competition. Which he's really hoping he doesn't now. Surely he can beat one mage when it comes to drinking.

...Unless Anders can put away ale like Wynne can. In which case he's already lost. But nothing ventured!

"Riiight. A skin mage? A hair mage?" Actually, that would be pretty funny. Also gross. And creepy... so maybe not that funny.

"You know a lot about this. Even for someone who hunts demons. You're not a mage yourself, are you?" It's possible where the Handler is from mages are allowed to do that sort of thing. It seems like a bad idea to him, sending someone most at risk of possession after demons, but maybe if he works with a Templar. Or something like a Templar that exists where he's from. Clearly the man isn't possessed and he's managed to grow pretty old doing what he does so he must know what he's doing if he is a mage.

"Andrastian. The Chantry." Like everyone else he almost says but that's really not the case here, is it? Even if living in a big metal box floating up somewhere with no air would make him really want someone to pray to. A lot.

"Following the teachings of the Maker's Bride, Andraste." It's not really what he'd call interesting personally. Alistair believes in the Maker and Andraste but that doesn't make studying the Chant of Light interesting, any more than eating potatoes means he's interested in how to farm them. Most of the important stuff is common knowledge back home and his studies of the subject were not the highlights of his education.

"I was given to the Chantry as a boy so I had plenty of lessons on the subject if you want to hear all about it." He pulls a face at the memory of all those lectures and sermons that he hadn't managed to sleep through. The Chantry would probably want him to tell her about the Maker and spread His word to the uneducated. But ugh. Only if Clarke is really interested in it all. Which does raise the question-

"What do your people believe in?" There are other faiths back home even - the elves and the Qunari and the dwarves all have their own beliefs - so he half-expects her to worship something other than the Maker. But there must be something. Metal box. No air. Yeah.

I just think-- I think someone should care about that horse, is all. I-I mean what if it's out there right now? Wh-what if it's a horse turning into a tree? It's pretty hard to picture something sadder than-- a horse that's, it's just giving up and getting turned into a tree somewhere.

Maker's... Bride. Andraste. Chantry? Clarke attempts not to look too lost when he says these things like they're common words, but she purses her lips and furrows her brow despite herself. She'd expected something more along the lines of Christianity or Hinduism; even Scientology wouldn't have thrown her for as much of a loop. They're religions she's learned about in class, but Andrastian? It doesn't even register as a word to her at first, just... sounds.

"Survival," she replies when she's done looking confused, shrugging her shoulders. If anyone from the Ark believed in a higher power before, they must feel abandoned by now. Those who had faith were probably the same ones who volunteered for the culling; allowing yourself to be sacrificed requires a degree of faith. Faith in the universe, faith in the Chancellor, faith in something. "We don't have a lot of time to devote to worshiping anything."

Even if they did, Clarke isn't sure she would. She isn't the spiritual type.

"And we definitely never worshiped Andraste," she says, careful to pronounce the name right. "So if you want to talk about it, I'd like to learn. If you believe in it."

Their loss, right? [ He chuckles. It's too late. He thinks the Comedian is cool, his opinion is positive. ]

It's nice to hang back and go with the flow sometimes, though. I kinda dig being where the action is, but it's like, you can't stop to eat pizza when you're in the middle of a wacky supernatural adventure.

"Did I mention my specialty is spirit healing?" he informs Alistair with an unrepentant grin. "That's nothing I can't handle. Now--"

He turns the untouched mug around so that the handle faces him, leaving the mug he's already touched alone. Fair's fair. Wouldn't want to compete with a drink already missing some of its contents.

"How do you want to do this? Fastest wins? Most drinks wins? Don't let this willowy body type fool you, I can put them back like the best of them."

"A mage? No. A witch? Also no." He waves a hand to the side, dismissive.

"I know the ingredients and incantations to some basic spells, but I'm not goin' to be doing any high-level juju any time soon. Not in the blood I've got, and also not something that I think I'd even be able to do now." Being dead probably puts a damper on his connection to that kind of thing, he supposes.

It helps that he got into the hunter lifestyle pretty late. That does wonders for the life expectancy.
