[OPEN] What happens in Hogsmeade stays in Hogsmeade

Who: EVERYONE! Especially you!
Where: Hogsmeade Village
When: Oct. 1-2
Rating: PG (Will change if necessary)
Summary: Get your wolf pack and head to town.
The Story:

Ah, Hogsmeade.

They say it's the Vegas of the wizarding world. Or they would, if wizards knew anything about Vegas. Or maybe they'd say it because they don't know anything about Vegas. It doesn't really matter.

What's important is that Hogsmeade is only a hop, skip and jump away from Hogwarts (Hogsmeade, Hogwarts? Coincidence? Wake up, America!), and is host to a number of exciting prospects for people of all ages, provided you're Year 3 or older. Perhaps you're a professor searching for a stiff drink at the Hog's Head Inn to wipe away the stress of the week's classes? Or maybe you're a hapless student with fresh eyes for the little hamlet, eager to try your first Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks?

The village has something for everyone, with all the assorted businesses a thriving witch-and-wizard town could need: grocers, an apothecary, magical item mechanics, clothiers, sporting goods, bookstores, and the Wizarding Wireless Network headquarters.

Where will you be?

NOTE: If there is a particular venue located in Hogsmeade that is not listed and you would like to add it for people to visit, please feel free to make an addition with a context image and a little blurb so the non-HP savvy (who are those people?) can identify it! xoxo

[ Frisk's indignation receives a winning smile from Rafe in reply. His taunts are relatively mild when aimed at those he's already deemed within his particular circle — and when potentially overdone by less clever people than himself (and who isn't less clever than Rafe, really?). ]

Or you can just opt for the cockroach clusters, charm them to skitter around on their own, then hide them. Come on, you have to expand your horizons to stay on top of the game. Diversify.

[ Listen and learn, grasshopper. These are some words of wisdom coming from on high. ...Okay, only two feet higher but still. Relatively high. ]

Besides. The only way to tell the difference is to take a bite. Believe me, I've tried to find a spell to figure which is buttered popcorn versus rotten egg and there's nothing for it.

[Grumble grumble, huff huff. They suppose he's got a rather good point. It's more effort than it's worth, though frankly the expressions they've gotten from seeing Mom or Dad scoop up a handful of the things makes it totally worth it. There's no quicker way to lower the bar as to what is acceptable to eat than to offer someone a handful of Bertie Bott's and watch the sparks fly.

Purely hypothetical sparks anyway. Mostly.]

Food-based pranks are hard, all right? You've got to be effective and inventive, otherwise people wise up to them really fast, and then it's no fun.

I think you're up to the challenge.

[ Yes, that is a very rare Adler-brand compliment so be grateful. They're a limited edition item. ]

Spend a fraction of the time you'd spend with your buddy dueling anything that moves on brainstorming, I think you wouldn't do half bad.

[ Sure, the first couple years Bertie gets a good rise but after that, people grow too cautious and then where are you at. Stuck with nasty flavors and nobody gullible enough to eat them unless you keep aiming at fresh meat off the lake and how is that a satisfying reaction? ]
determinedest: (* It's normal for a tree to lose leaves)

[Well, he's not wrong. They do appreciate a good challenge - to the extent that someone of their age and small stature can appreciate a challenge, which is usually to the effect of a scenario that may as well be scripted in its interchangeable nature:

Various Persons: Inform Frisk and/or Chara that they cannot do something for a multitude of reasons.
Frisk and/or Chara: Henceforth insist upon doing that thing, mastering it if possible, simply to prove that they can.

Adler here has probably gleaned that the quickest and surest way to get one of the two children to do something is to insist that they cannot and let that contrarian streak reinforce their highly determined efforts.]

It's not my fault that eighty percent of the student body has such big mouths when it comes to monsters. Someone's gotta defend their honor.

[Most monsters simply have to stand there and take it. They don't have many other options.]

Probably because you keep calling him "Chicken."

[Just saying.]

Your eyes are just dazzled by the sight of freshly laundered clothing. It looks like it's been awhile for you.

[Still smiling winningly, Anders slides around until he's (mostly) sitting up straight, one leg propped against the arm rest. That forlorn sigh of Peter's makes him think he should be pouring Peter a drink, not the other way around. Maybe one with a bit more of a kick to it.]

What's going on to put wizard and familiar in such dire straits? Tell me. The doctor is in. And not just because I'm sitting here to drink your butterbeer.

[Wow, how did Dorian know it's his birthday? Thank you, fellow Slytherin, for the gift of this completely unasked for psychoanalysis (which is wrong in some parts and uncomfortably true in others). Victor leans back involuntarily and almost, almost lets embarrassment flood his cheeks.

But then he remembers who he is: fifteen and bound for greatness. He's going to do what no one else can do, and a task of that magnitude requires sacrifices, sacrifices he's committed to that most wouldn't understand. He shouldn't have to feel embarrassed about knowing his purpose.]

I'm not most people. I like studying. [Victor straightens his spine.] I'm asking what you want, not an opinion on what I need.

[He'd thought the same about the Hog's Head, but here someone is, bothering him. Clearly this isn't going to plan.]

If that's true, why are you here?
lifeskills: ([de-age 13])

[personal profile] lifeskills 2016-10-08 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Victor's reply isn't much of a reply--it's a mutter in a one-sided conversation with the floor as he bows his head and smoothes his hair down over his forehead like an invisibility cloak that will keep Klaus' sister from looking over here.]

You know why.

[Because he's him and everyone else is everyone else. Because Rebekah's older and popular and normal. Because he still gets as flustered talking to the opposite sex as he was when he was eleven and blushing the first time he'd seen a girl sitting in the common room in her bedclothes.

He peeks around the shelf, checking that they haven't been noticed yet. And maybe to check what she's doing. He doesn't usually spend time in Rebekah's vicinity without a buffer in the form of Klaus or Elena, and even then he gets too tongue-tied to say much.]

You can say hi. If you want. I mean, you should. She's your friend. [Very articulate.] I can stay here.
theothermrgray: (awe come on)

If we had another preppy person here, this might turn into a Charlie the Unicorn video

[personal profile] theothermrgray 2016-10-08 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Why am I here?

[How would he awnser that without looking shady? Maybe he got lost? Maybe he didn't know better? Maybe he lost a bet? Maybe...]

At this hour, the Three Broomsticks is so busy it's not worth the trouble.

[Here he sits next to his reluctant companion. Not too close, but close enough.]

It's not a bad thing to have a friend, you know. Someone who can support you in your efforts.

[ He enjoys reading these books because it feels like an escape. It's not like he hates his life or anything like that, but he simply loves a good adventure story. And he'd argue that it is exciting, but he also knows Rose well enough by now so he just shakes his head in amusement instead. It's probably a lucky thing Rose has Peter around to help her with her studies and homework or she might not have been allowed to play Quidditch at all. ]

So did you maim or kill anyone today? [ He's usually there to watch Rose practice with the team, mostly taking the opportunity to use healing spells on the injured, but lately he's been trying to catch up with his studies since he's been daydreaming in class a lot. ]

[ Sarah is completely, 100% oblivious to this. She does know he exists, she's seen him, and as she looks at him she tries to remember his name. When she does, she smiles at his offer brightly. ]

Peter! And I would really love some, thank you. I feel like there's a lot more of us in Hogsmeade this year. I didn't realize the class sizes had gotten so big. So again, sorry I didn't ask first.

[ She finally really looks at his face and frowns just a little, gesturing. ]

What happened?
mimic: (Same problems. Different day.)

[personal profile] mimic 2016-10-08 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The thing about Chicken is -- he was going to get himself another owl after Hoot grew too fat to fit into its cage, but then heard about the mean cat who no one wanted so he took pity on the poor Sphynx. No regrets though. Who knows what would have happened to Chicken otherwise. Most times, Peter doesn't think about himself and the kind of trouble he gets himself into, especially on account of another. ]

Everything's fine. I'm just backlogged. Been spending too much doing... you-know-what. [ By that he means attempting to practice wandless magic which he'd already told Anders about before. It's just not something he wants to mention in public because he's looking to be able to try the more difficult spells soon and doesn't want any of the Professors putting a stop to it because they think he might end up getting himself killed. Just today he'd tried to do a levitation spell, but somehow ended up flipping himself over a tree and it was a lucky thing he didn't land on his head or he wouldn't be here right now. ]

What have you been busy with?
mimic: (No future in this place. I hear you.)

[personal profile] mimic 2016-10-08 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's a good thing he managed to hide his surprise at her knowing his name because she's looking at him right now and he's trying his best to seem nonchalant despite how fast his heart is beating. ]

Uh. Long story short? Never ever tell a cat what to do. [ Because that's unfortunately how he got his face mauled. ] Actually it's a... short story. Chicken sat on a parchment I was working on and I was trying to get him off it. Wasn't a good idea. [ It's why he decided to do his homework here instead of the Common Room. Chicken 1 // Peter 0 ]

He does what he wants. [ Peter manages a crooked little grin as he pours her a drink and hands it over. ] And really, there's no need to apologize. I don't mind sharing.

Waiting for somebody?

[A jug of Butterbeer hits the table before Rose comes into view. The sight of two raised eyebrows waiting for Jo, along with the brunette's best; 'I know you're up to something and I will work out what it is even if you won't tell me', look.]

[Oh, but that does warrant a look, Klaus Mikaelson. While Cami embodies the Hufflepuff traits of loyalty and honesty, she’s also got a stubborn streak that might make a Gryffindor jealous. Part of her is tempted to redirect her route just for that, but he’s lucky she likes him. Also that he has a great smile, and a nice voice...enchanting eyes…

And a few moments later, just the right choice of words to have her turning red because no, Cami hasn’t at all missed the double meaning of his words. She’s also thought about it, every time they’ve stolen away to share kisses and touches, each time she’s caught sight of some bruise he’s left behind in his earnestness with her. She cares for him undeniably, and sometimes she’s even willing to admit that what she feels is love aloud.

She daydreams about the life they might share together, if families and horrors and darkness could be escaped from.

So Cami carefully doesn’t look at him, even if the flush on her cheeks gives some of her thoughts away. She idly reaches for something on a shelf--she doesn’t even really see what--speaking almost as if she were talking to the treat rather than her boyfriend.]

Maybe I’d like to try something new; something I’ve never had before. [Because he isn’t her first boyfriend or even her first kiss, but Cami has only gone so far with anyone. Standing there with him, their hands joined together, she wonders what it might be like to truly be with him.

To share everything with him, and trust him like she hopes he trusts her.]

I don’t suppose you’d like to help me with that?

[They're something more than nothing and that something is about as unpredictable and ominous as a boggart locked in a wardrobe. Rafe knows, he just likes seeing Nate flounder a little bit - and flounder he does, struggling to come up with an apt metaphor before settling on:]

The "cool and collected" thing? Where you look like you're simultaneously bored and murderous?

[And smug, that one for certain, particularly now with the way that Rafe is clearly reveling in Nate's straw-grasping. Rafe doesn't intimidate Nate because they've known each other for so long, but the looks that Adler can level would make any first-year shit their robes. Nate takes a sip of his Butterbeer, rubbing foam from his lip.]

I can come up with more synonyms but I feel like that would get old really quickly.

I don't know, I think it could stay entertaining quite a while longer.

[ It could just as easily mean Nate's continued fluster or that bit of foam he could just as easily wipe away before Nate handles it on his own. Rafe's gaze drifts back up from where it was so distracted as he debates just how much more Nate deserves to dangle.

Eh. He can be merciful. And so before Nate spools out any more rope to hang himself with, he exhales slow and quiet before rolling his shoulders.
]

Some idiot Gryffindor thought it'd be fun to annoy me. [ That murderous quality Nate mentioned earlier shows itself now before a slow inhale, a reminder about control and the various reasons why he didn't hex the blighter's face off. ] Fifth year. Don't worry, he's still breathing.

[ Despite not having much of a social group he's a part of, Bruce still enjoys the Hogsmeade visits. He spends most of the time by himself, granted, but he gets to walk around and relax a little, buy a few things he likes, and go back to school after a day not having to deal with annoying bullies or spent with his head shoved in his books.

Not that he minds the latter, admittedly. But it's still nice to do something other than that.

He doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, but it's hard to resist the unusual treats that the magical world has to offer. Even after almost seven years, Bruce still marvels at the various flavors of Bertie Bott's beans, and he still collects the little cards that come with the chocolate frogs. In fact he's trying to open one just now, only to have the frog use its one good leap to jump right onto his face, then crawling up his head and tangling itself into his curly hair. ]
