The Story:

[Congratulations, you solved all three challenges! Now you get to hang out and wait for your friends to also finish. Plus, you still get to turn into neat animals. Have fun!]

[Wow, that was weird. Dipper has never been so glad to be back in Wonderland and have everything back to normal. Dipper heads outside into the chilly November weather, tucking his journal into his vest pocket. Those were not the kinds of puzzles he prefers. Seriously, what kind of neat obstacle course doesn't even have secret codes?

Well, at least it's over. Weird challenge or not, Dipper outsmarted it and made it home. He smirks, feeling exceptionally clever.

And then he starts feeling exceptionally like a crow. He flaps his wings and looks down at the ground and caws.

[At some point while he's outside, Dipper might catch sight of something sort of weird for mid-November. There's a chameleon hanging out on a low branch of a nearby tree. He managed to scurry up that far at least, but he's very far from the mansion (for a tiny chameleon, that is) and very, very cold. Right now, most of his energy is going into just keeping his brown color and not moving so maybe he can stay warm until he figures out how to back on purpose.

This is it. He survived the three challenges and now he's going to die of frostbite as a lizard. That sure seems like the kind of stupid thing that would happen to Wirt.]

[Dipper is enjoying his newfound crow life when he lands on a branch that... has a chameleon on it. Which is weird enough that he turns back into a human and has to clamber a lot to catch the branch and not fall on his face.]

What the heck?

[singloversing]

[Wirt is stunned still from all of the commotion, but then he cautiously flicks one eye over to his new tree companion. Wait, that's--!

It's Dipper. Oh thank god.

Gradually (very, very gradually) he allows his colors to shift. He looks like he's supposed to mostly be blue (except for the triangular point on his head, which is more red), but all of his colors go much darker from the cold. Then, slowly, he starts moving along the branch towards Dipper, trembling with every step.]

Wirt?

[It's a good thing Dipper's smart. People are turning into animals and this one has Wirt's coloring and also Wirt seems dumb enough to get stuck as a reptile in the cold. Really, it's the only thing that makes sense.

He tries to pry Wirt off the tree. This is the part where if it's not Wirt, it'll probably try to flee, but honestly he's not even sure if it's capable. It looks like it's in pretty bad shape.]

[Wow, what a vote of confidence there.

Wirt tenses instinctively (as anyone would when something much bigger than them tries to grab them), but he allows Dipper to pick him up. He's very cold to the touch, way too cold for a reptile. He awkwardly reaches out like he's thinking about trying to climb up one of Dipper's arms, but in the end he decides not to and just settles where he is.

Dipper's hands are really warm, comparatively speaking.]

[Ok, Dipper now has a reptile in his hands. He looks around as he tries to figure out what to do next. The branch isn't very high, but it's high enough that he doesn't really want to jump, and climbing down without hands would not work out. Even if he only holds Wirt in one hand, it'll probably be a good way to injure himself and maybe squish Wirt.

Which really only leaves one option.]

...sorry about this. I'm gonna get you inside.

[He carefully puts Wirt into his pocket. At least it's the one with the half-chewed pens instead of the one with the giant heavy books. Then he climbs down and starts back towards the mansion.]

[singloversing]

[Wirt, being a chameleon, is not especially talkative. Even if he was though, he honestly wouldn't complain about this. Dipper's pocket is a very warm place to hide, and right now that's his biggest priority.

The pens are a little more annoying, but Wirt burrows right under them and curls up deep in that pocket. He's okay with this very warm form of transportation. Plus, he doesn't have to actually watch Dipper jump down from the tree this way and that's a load off his mind.]

[He only gets so long to snuggle with Dipper's pens because as soon as Dipper's inside, he races to his room, snags a space heater from the closet, and pulls Wirt out. But you know, at least that's still warm.]

Please be okay....

[singloversing]

[His colors already look much brighter than they did a few minutes ago, and that heater feels so nice. Wirt squirms a little in Dipper's hands until he puts him down, and once he does he finally shifts back into his human form. Being warm-blooded again helps immensely, but he still pulls his cape tightly around him like a blanket.]

O-Oh my god, thank you! I thought I was going to freeze out there!

[Dipper waits until he's satisfied that Wirt is not dying as a lizard, then punches him in the arm.]

What is with you and freezing, dude? Could you stop?

[singloversing]

[He's kind of surprised at the punch, but after a moment of hesitation he shoves Dipper's arm in return.]

It's not like I did it on purpose! I just...

[He pouts, puffing up his cheek like a little kid.]

I tripped and thought someone saw me and...I didn't want that, and all of a sudden I was a chameleon?

[Dipper stares for a moment, then shakes his head, exhaling a laugh.]

Seriously, man? [He thinks Wirt might be a tidge insecure.] I'm glad you're okay. Maybe... don't go outside until this event is over.

[singloversing]

[Wirt looks a little embarrassed at first, but eventually he eases, since this is just Dipper.]

Yeah...yeah, I'm definitely not planning on it. At this point it would just be kind of dumb.

[wickedwest]

[Don't mind the green mule over here, Dipper. She's glad to be out of the challenges too, just sort of giving the crow a look over here because what exactly are you going on about there, buddy? The worst part of things is over now, things are basically back to...Wonderland normal. Except with more animal transformations. So not normal, but close enough to it.

And that's another reason for the judging look too. Part of the event seems to be over, can the rest of it go too? Zelena's never really been a fan of these things and that's not going to change any time soon or...ever, really.]

[Dipper is even smaller than usual, but no less fearless, so he flies over and lands on the green mule's head. He's never seen an animal of that color before. It's fascinating.]

[Great, now she's a green mule with a bird on her head. So much for things being mostly normal.

...oh wait, she hates everything about this, so that basically is normal. Anyways, she's going to start shaking her head to try and get the bird off before it pecks her or builds a nest or something.]

[Dipper squawks and flaps his wings to try and keep his balance before remembering that he actually has hands and once he remembers he's suddenly a person again and finds himself on the green mule's back clinging anxiously to his neck and how does he get down?]

Oh my god I miss having wings.

[Well, she'll stop trying to throw him off once he changes. Even without the whole trying to be a better person thing, she...tolerates Dipper. He's the weird kid that ran that whole ridiculous game, and she actually had fun with that.

And she's never going to live this down, but she'll trot over towards the stairs, that should make it easier for Dipper to get down. Probably. She doesn't know, she's trying, okay?]

[Oh. Huh. Dipper clambers off and gives the green mule a second look. Probably not a mule naturally, then. Just like he's not usually a crow. But probably green naturally.]

...Zelena or Peridot, right? [A beat. He considers what kind of animal it is.] Probably Zelena. Or actually, maybe Peridot? She can be pretty stubborn too.

[Luckily, she changes back sparing him from having to play charades with a mule.]

Certainly not the other one. I'd like to think I'm not nearly as frantic as she is.

[Stubborn yes, but Zelena's of the opinion she has her act together, okay? She definitely doesn't, but that won't stop her from pretending otherwise.]

Uhh, well, at least you're taller!

[Frantic probably isn't the right word for what Zelena is, but neither is having her act together. But she is definitely taller than Peridot. No doubt there.]

Yes, I suppose I should be thankful for that. At least that way no one's going to accuse me of having a complex.

[Is... is that a joke? Dipper blinks a bit, decides that it probably is, and smiles.]

Yeah, I mean, not about height anyway.

[Yeah, look, a few months ago and she wouldn't have been able to make jokes at her own expense, but now well, now she's able to see how dumb she was and boy oh boy was she dumb.

...not that she regrets most of it though.]
