+ Ahh~! Like a good old fashion nightmare! | [OPEN] +

Who: EVERYONE
Where: Your dreams!
When: Friday February 17th - Monday February 20th (The length of the event!)
Rating: PG-13, warn if higher!
Summary: A catch-all log for everyone's dreams in this event, and all of the subconscious shenanigans within them!
The Story:

Over the course of the event, characters will find themselves falling asleep at random moments of the day, spacing out only to find themselves in a dream moments later. Whenever this happens, characters will find themselves in visions or nightmares. The content is entirely up to you, but must be something that would have some significance to the character, whether literally or metaphorically. They will likely be about a character's true feelings about a matter, or their hidden fears.

Either way, these dreams are trying to tell you something - something that you've buried, willfully ignored, or flat out just haven't realized about yourself. Within their dreams, they will meet people (from Wonderland) who represent their subconscious. These people will have uncanny knowledge of the dreamer's most inner thoughts: fears, desires, guilt, regrets, even their private thoughts of what they imagine their future to be like - and they will absolutely want to shove it in the dreamer's face, as though these repressed thoughts and feelings are rising to the surface.

OOCly, people will be able to play either awake in Wonderland or as versions of their characters within someone else's dream, taunting them with their subconscious thoughts and feelings. They will mostly be themselves, aside from the knowledge of what's going on in the dreamer's head. It's possible the dreamer might not even realize it's a dream at first, but it's equally possible that a character within someone's dream can be twisted or altered in some way if it helps them better deliver their message. They can even do standard nightmare things, like completely breaking the laws of physics or appearing and disappearing as needed.

Characters will feel sufficiently rested from these dreams, even if they don't like the content - which is good, because caffeine and all other stimulants one would use to keep themselves awake will be rendered completely ineffective.

Feel free to make use of this post for dream shenanigans! All top-levels are assumed to be for the person dreaming and the replies will all be within their dream, threads with characters who represent their subconscious. Prose and [brackets] are both welcome and if you have any questions you can over to the plot post!

"And how exactly is that going to happen?" She scowls, glaring helplessly up at him. She'd get rid of her biases if she could, but no matter how hard she tries to excise all opinion from her fact, she's still only human. Her bias even shows in what she chooses to report, what she deems newsworthy. But she's always fought them.

"Haven't been paying attention at all, have you?"

Someone on a hunt for truth is going to yield collateral. Going to burn bridges, and tread over the ashes. Going to ruin the lives of everyone they encounter. And, more importantly, their own.

"I've paid attention plenty. But you're not giving me facts. You're giving me vague portents." And if she can't cling to the lack of facts, she's truly lost. Anyone can claim something bad will happen. But without concrete evidence, those claims are meaningless.

It's all she has left. She can't change--doesn't want to change--so she has to believe there's hope. That failure isn't inevitable. Leaving well enough alone isn't in her nature. But maybe Tim's right. Maybe she does need it to mean something. She doesn't want to have thrown away her life for nothing.

"And who's fault is that?" He only looks mildly offended as he reaches up, rapping at his skull with clenched knuckles. "I'm you, dumbass."

The psyche really is best at derailing itself. The real Tim might be a coward, a liar, a general asshole - but he's seldom if ever pointlessly cruel unless he's having a really, really categorically bad day.

At least her psyche is honest about being a delusion. If there's a silver lining, she supposes that's it.

"You aren't giving me any facts cause I don't have any, then," she says, looking down, thoughtfully this time. "This isn't fact-based, reasonable fears. It's anxiety. I know the cost of my actions and now I'm wondering if it's all worth it."

She eyes him again. "Why my subconscious decided you were the best vehicle for that message would probably give some therapist a field day figuring out if I ever wanted to see one. But it's not just my subconscious, is it? My dreams are never this clear. This is the fucking event."

Ding ding ding. And the conscious mind scores one against the subconscious. Only took, what? A whole conversation of mindless back-and-forth, accusations she can't wholly refute? A waste of time that's not really time at all, because the passage of time in dreams hardly counts as such.

"Probably 'cause you've got plenty of anxieties about me, to start with," Tim, or the apparition of Tim, drawls, nonplussed. "All that mess about to tell the truth or not to tell the truth - really tiresome, isn't it?"

"Don't flatter yourself." Considering it's a dream and this isn't really him, she probably shouldn't bother being defensive. But admitting vulnerability to anyone, real or not, doesn't come easily. Even Shaun doesn't get to see it very often. "And not really. It is my life's work."

"Can't lie to your subconscious, Georgia." He almost sounds disappointed that she even tried. "You're tired. More tired than you ever want to admit."

But that's okay, right?

You'll have plenty of time to sleep, soon enough.

"That's only because caffeine isn't working right. I'd be fine otherwise." More hedging, more lying in a sense, but even she lies when it comes to her feelings. Those are hers. She doesn't have to share them with anyone. Tim might not be real, but the situation feels real enough that she can still only act like she would in reality.

He shakes his head, one side of his mouth jerking in a motion she'll never have seen Tim perform, not in any of her waking moments - he smiles.

An expression that isn't unsettling in its own right, but perhaps could be, due to the sheer wrongness of it.

"Getting off on a technicality. Can't say I'm surprised." He doesn't let the sentence dangle, or lapse. He simply shrugs, limply, and pushes back from the podium.

"But, hey. Maybe you ended up learning something."

Not that he'll hold his proverbial breath.

That will be all, folks.

She's waking up. She knows she's waking up, and it pisses her off as much as anything else that's been happening. She's not done. If she fights hard enough, maybe she can convince her subconscious to get with the program and agree with her.

But she's stirring, and she can't cling to the fragments of the dream and keep arguing no matter how much she wants.
