Summary: It's your chance do your dance
The Story: After the culture festival wraps up on Wednesday afternoon, all students are invited to a dance in the gymnasium! There are snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic, of course!), as well as cheesy paper decorations made by the student council members.

( Lydia had stepped outside for a moment, just to grab a little bit of air and cool down from dancing. Which she hadn't done too much of yet - the right person hadn't found her, or everyone had just been too goofy. Lydia might have been an upperclassman (girl) but she was younger, having been bumped ahead a few years. This would be her only dance and she only wanted good memories from it.

That said when Lydia spotted the girl outside she definitely didn't know her. She was dressed pretty good though - her dress was amazing, and you had to admire fellow redhead style because it could be difficult for them )

That dress looks great.

( Even if that's the only thing said between them it had to be said, just in case no one else would say it )

[ Natasha glanced up when someone stepped outside behind her, noting the upperclassman as familiar, but she wasn't sure they'd ever spoken before. The compliment comes as a bit of a surprise and Natasha glances down at herself in automatic reaction before flashing the other girl a friendly smile. ]

If you can't impress at a dance you're doing something wrong.

( Or just have the wrong idea about what you're doing at the dance. But considering it was her only dance she really wanted to impress )

I'm surprised you weren't followed out here.

[ That has her lips twitching into a knowing smile, humor glinting briefly in green eyes. ]

If I'd wanted to be followed, I would have been, I suppose. But I know how to be subtle when I need to be. Mostly I just anted some fresh air and a break for my feet. My last dance partner stepped all over them.

You should show me how to do that. I'm surprised I got out without a puppy following me.

( If only she really meant a puppy )

How are the feet now?

I can, if you'd like. Sometimes it requires a good use of distraction and when that fails, a good glare usually does the trick.

[ Immunity to puppy eyes is also extremely useful. ]

Recovering. What about you? Escaping from someone?

Then it's probably the distraction part that I'm missing.

( Because she can do the glare )

Nope, just taking a break from all of it. It's nice to be able to think for a moment.

They're useful when they need to be.

[ Natasha seems content to leave it at that, but she hops up on the edge of the railing, one foot swinging absently beneath her as she makes herself comfortable. ]

It is. I like a party as much as the next person but they can get a little crowded.

With the amount of people here? ( A small disappointed expression appears on her features ) I wanted to enjoy this. I'm not getting another, but so far it hasn't been that great.

( So far Lydia hasn't really danced - other than with her friends. She's been waiting to be asked but no one has yet. And not for lack of her availability or hotness )

[ Natasha looks surprised by this. ]

What, why? What's wrong with it?

Probably nothing. ( It was probably just her ) I just had an idea of what it would be and it hasn't really been it.

( Too high expectations? Very likely. When you only get one chance at something you want it to be perfect )

That's a shame. [ Natasha's expression is sympathetic. ] What was it you wanted? Is it something fixable?

Fun. ( It sounds stupid, but to someone like Lydia Martin it is very very important ) Not that it hasn't been but it's too... boring.

Waiting, assuming and then having a terrible dance partner.

( So yes, it was something that could be fixable. Give her a great dance partner and even better a great person she could talk to and have fun with for more than just one dance. A few dances. A little bit special )

It means I end up out here instead of actually in there.

[ Natasha tilts her head at that, looking thoughtful. ]

Some of the guys are pretty good. You could always go ask one of them? Or all of them? Some of them are really bad about asking girls to dance, I've noticed.

If that fails, you could come out and dance with me for a while. Unless that's too weird. Or we could just go find boys and drag them out with us?

I think dancing with you would be less weird than dancing with someone that couldn't dance.

( She's just going to assume that you can dance. You've seemed great so far )

[ That gets a laugh from her and a mischievous grin. ]

And probably a good deal less painful for your feet and your dignity.

[ It's a very safe assumption. ]

I'm only hearing more good reasons to do this.

( Lydia gives her a smile, turning around to go back inside )

[ Natasha grins as she hops down off the railing with an easy move. ]
