[NYE Party] happy new year and lots of fun
Who: EVERYONE, but especially you!
Where: Wonderland Ballroom
When: New Year's Eve
Rating: PG - PG13 (will change if applicable)
Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:
[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering dƩcor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.
Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown. ]

jonathan kent | open
if he happens to notice any girls standing around near the dance floor, jon's more than happy to approach them, small smile on his lips as he offers a hand to them, palm up. )
Hi! Would you like to dance?
no subject
I managed to get my hands on the last one.
[ what a way to spend a new year's eve, with one newfound son. it's something to celebrate. he wouldn't have it any other way. ]
thought we could share it.
no subject
( a wide smile's how he greets clark, picking up the fork without any hesitation to dig in and eat the end bit. fork still in his mouth, jon stands up to grab onto the bottom of his chair, dragging it over a bit to press it up against the one closest to him, just to get that much closer. )
Are you having fun?
no subject
[ he admits and all too readily. there are things you don't hide from those you care about, especially if those people are family. he has family, now that's a way to make the next year better. ]
I used to spend New Year's eve blasting fireworks at the back yard. never something as fancy.
[ the dancing is honest to god scary. ]
I think your mom would handle the setting better than me.
no subject
Dad, Mom, and I would blast fireworks in the backyard, too. We lived on a farm in California for a while, then moved out to Hamilton. Weād go outside with Krypto and RangerāDadād let me stay up, but only because it was New Years. My bedtime was usually around nine. I usually fell asleep early anyway, ācause I wasnāt used to staying up for forever. ( itās nice to think about; and while the man sitting beside him is still definitely his dad, heāsāmissing those memories. jon doesnāt mind telling him about them anyway, but itās a little sad, too. clark wonāt remember those new yearās eves spent staying up late with him and lois. )
We can go ask the closets for some fireworks, if you want. The roof should be a safe place to let them off, right?
no subject
[ he lowers his voice, as if the plan of action is highly secretive and meant for both of them alone. ]
let's raid the food tables and take some plates to the roof. I'll get us cocoa and we can fire off a few of those fireworks.
no subject
( he's out of his chair in two seconds flat, turning to run off to grab some plates and bring them off to the roof, but--he pauses for a moment, turns his head back towards clark, whispers quietly: )
It's okay if I call you Dad, right?
no subject
[ it's a quiet, earnest assurance. it didn't take him too long to realize he's just fine with being someone's dad. it would have been nice to tell lois about it. but then again, if she wasn't here, at least clark was. ]
I'll cover the tables on the left side.

She's not picky about dance partners. She's not picky about anything tonight, really.
So when he offers a dance, she laughs and takes his hand. It's always more fun dancing with someone else. ]
I've love to! You look great, by the way. I love the shoes.
no subject
jon leads her out onto the dance floor, presses his free hand to her waist once they're far enough out. he does the normal "i don't know how to really dance but i can shuffle" version of dancing, but it works, right? )
Your dress is very pretty, too. It goes great with your eyes!
no subject
[ She shuffles along with him. In a lot of ways, this is like dances in middle school, except Superboy is WAY better behaved. ]
You go to a lot of dances back home? You're a really good dancer.
no subject
( if thereās one thing heās learned from his father itās definitely manners. and a great sense of justice. but mostly the manners thing. )
My mom and I danced around the house sometimes, too. Sheās awesome.
no subject
How did you and your mom dance? Like... one of those going-under-water moves? [ She raises one hand in the air, holds the other to her nose, and shimmies downward. What? The song might be slow, but that's no reason why it should be boring. ]
no subject
[Natasha is on the floor, after all, and doesn't have a partner, even though she's dressed to the nines.
She'll take his hand. Don't think she won't.]
Nice running into you somewhere that's not full of monsters.
no subject
I hang out where there aren't monsters sometimes, too. ( most the time actually. ) You look amazing.
no subject
[She smiles, moving easily into the crowd, even balanced on her heels.]
Having a good night?
no subject
Yeah! Kinda reminds me of school dances. Except this is waay more fancy.
no subject
[This kind of thing can make a girl feel old. Or like an adult, at least.]
You know, I never had those. Not how you mean.
no subject
( usually they're super awkward, full of shuffling feet and people standing around punch bowls talking about cows and comics but you know. )
Did they not have them where you grew up?

Hey! Enjoying yourself, kiddo?
no subject
Yep! I haven't been to a New Years party like this before.
no subject
It's pretty fancy, isn't it? I don't think I've ever had to dress up for a party like this before.
[Suits aren't usually his jam.]
You look nice. Very respectable.
no subject
( look he'll even pull it off to show teddy. clips on, pulls right back off. thank you modern technology. )
I haven't really dressed up like this either. You look nice, too! Super cool.
no subject
Wanna know a secret the adults never want you to find out? Unless you show someone you're wearing a clip-on, nobody can tell.
[Maybe eagle-eyed mothers, but nobody else.]
You think I look cool? [That takes him by surprise, but he smiles broadly again. Little alien friend, your candor is much appreciated.] Thanks! I was a little nervous about dressing fancy enough for the occasion, but I'd say we both pulled it off pretty well.
no subject
except he totally isor anything. )Usually when I dress fancy, it's in a hoodie and a cape. So this is way different! ( the tip about the tie will be noted and remembered for later. )
I had a suit back home, but I outgrew it a little while ago.
