[ Julia frowns, realizing a little too late that this was probably one of those times that it would have been appropriate for her to mind her own business.

Subject is broached, though, so... ]

It must be difficult being away from her.

[Frank's used to it, here. It's the rare downside of no one knowing who he is, of not having his name and life story up on every TV screen and news headline for weeks. ]

She's dead. It doesn't matter.

[And he hates that it still bothers him. He should be used to it by now.]

[ She shouldn't be as startled as she is by that response, considering she echoed the same words just as bluntly - perhaps almost ruthlessly - to Seth when he asked about her husband.

She, of all people, should know better than to make those kinds of assumptions, considering the number of people she loves who are now dead. ]

Well, I feel like a complete asshole. [ Maybe one day she'll learn to be less of a bull in a china shop, but apparently not anytime soon. She reaches out and picks up the unicorn, squishing it gently between her fingers. ] Of course it matters.

Don't. [he might sound a little too insistent on that.] Don't let this place get you second-guessing yourself.

Besides. It's not your fault.

[ Julia gives him a thoughtful look that edges on confused. Maybe she was expecting him to be more defensive, or maybe more angry at her for asking probing questions. The insistent words are a surprise. ]

I never second guess myself. [ She forces out a smile, the words indicative of the fact that she does. But it's not Wonderland's fault; she started that in the days before she even arrived, when she went from being just a small town reporter to feeling like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. ] What happened to her?

[He's not defensive. Any more. His worst memory playing out in his room over and over for about a week kind of stripped the worst of the raw nerves off that one. ]

Crossfire. Or not. Still working on that part. [And not able to figure that out as long as he's here.]

Oh. Wonderland pulled you out before you could solve it, huh?

[ Wonderland has super awesome timing like that. ]

Yeah.

[He knew about Blacksmith. Knew it was Schoonover. Didn't know how deep it all went. ]

More to it than just 'solving' it, though.

Looking for justice? Or revenge?

[ She doesn't really understand where he's coming from, but she can at least try to imagine how she would feel if she lost a child like that. ]
