Summary: The Red Queen has thrown a carnival for everyone!
The Story:


From Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 16, the gardens and grounds of the Mansion will be a sprawling a carnival. The masked, unspeaking vendors will be selling trinkets and running free game booths. Carnival rides, exhibits, and foods represent all of the various cultures of those currently residing in the Mansion.


Of particular note, and perhaps incongruously, everything is decorated with red hearts.

[Minato smiled at that, thinking she was just excited. She could be loud enough for the both of them. It was kind of cute and he was glad that if she had to go through some event that she could experience something good like this one.

Hi, Monika.

[Volume and all. She kind of reminded him of someone at home he knew too with long hair who finally knew how to find her voice.]

I'm happy to see you too. Are you all right?

[ Monika giggles stupidly. GOSH, HE CARES SO MUCH ABOUT HER! ]

I'm fine! I'm so great! I'm outside!

[ Now she's beaming with the power of a thousand suns. ] And you're out here! With me! We're outside together!

[ And suddenly she's darted forward, getting uncomfortably close to him. ] Can I touch you?

[Oh, wow, farewell, personal space, but Minato didn't mind again since she really was excited to be outside. Maybe being in the mansion and exploring it didn't give her the chance to go outside as often or at all.

At her question, he looked back at her and nodded.]

Sure.

[Perhaps it was a bit forward, but some girls were and from the way she phrased her question, it seemed innocent enough.

It was good too, perhaps, as he thought again. It made him seem more real and alive if he were tangible.]

[ Wow. WOW. She finally gets to live up to the name of her game. Her heart is going doki doki!

Monika looks up at him, trying to control her breathing, and slowly, shakily reaches out a hand to his cheek. Sure, she could've picked something less intimate like his hand or something, but...this is Monika.

Her fingertips are hesitant at first, then she gets more confident, pressing her palm to his skin. It's exactly what she pictured skin feeling like. Soft, warm. Real.

Her eyes flutter shut. It feels like they're the only two people in the universe right now. ]

W-Wow...

[Minato hadn't expected her to touch his cheek, but he thought it was sweet that she did. She seemed so happy and he couldn't help but wonder why it would make her so to this extent. Something might've happened to her before at home. He wished he knew what it was and maybe they could make it better, now that they were here.

He brought a free hand up to lightly rest it against her hand at his cheek.

He didn't say anything and didn't need to right now, letting her have this moment. She might have needed this somehow, hence why she had been so excited and content. If he could do this for her, then that made him happy too.]

[ Aaand she suddenly shrieks, jerking a few feet away.

Monika's breathing heavily, eyes locked on her hand. Did he--? Was she--?

HE TOUCHED HER!!!!

She looks at each finger, the front, the back, over and over. It's a wonder it's not on fire from how tingly it feels.

She scurries back up to him, holding her hand centimeters from his face. ]

Can you do that again?

[Whoa, kind of didn't expect that reaction, and Minato was a little surprised, thinking maybe he shouldn't have done that, but she seemed to recover quickly.

His expression softened a bit and he nodded. Sure, it was okay. Since her hand was up and close, all he did was clasp the back of it lightly and pressed it back against his cheek.]

Like that?

[ Monika sighs happily, enjoying the sensations enveloping her hand. This feels so forbidden, and that makes it even better.

Her thumb softly strokes his cheek. She has never felt so in love!

Can we stay like this forever?

[Minato smiled at that, half thinking that this reminded him somehow of touching a certain weapon's Papillon Heart, something new for her, coming to some realization after a long journey.]

Forever is a long time. If I could give it to you, then I would.

[He didn't have forever, although he wished he did sometimes too. But that's what made 'forever' so precious; it was because they didn't have it that made it so.]

It's like you've never done something like this before. But that's okay.

[ His words yank her back into reality, and she blinks rapidly before dropping her hand, tucking it safely behind her back with the other. Was she that obvious? ]

Ahaha, of course I have! A lot of times!

[ Oof, that was a little loud. Monika briefly winces at herself before continuing. ]

Um, thanks, though! [ A slight pause. ] Would you really do that for me, giving so much? Even considering the circumstances? I wouldn't want you getting into trouble~

[ Or maybe she would. Might make things more fun. ]

[Minato didn't mean to scare her off. He hoped he hadn't offended her or anything like that.]

Sorry. You just reminded me of some of my friends at home.

[And he did think about them a lot, now that he had the time here and could at all. Her follow-up questions though, he had to think about for a moment. Circumstances and trouble, hm?]

What circumstances are you worried about?

[ Monika giggles. Isn't she so cool, reminding him of people? She's better than them, of course, but still. ]

Oh, and, don't mind me~ Sometimes I say things without meaning to. [ Wink! ] Anyway, do you want to spend some time together? Carnivals can be really romantic, right?

[Since she decided to change the subject--and he would have to think about it some more because it was interesting that she brought it up--Minato went along with it. He nodded.]

Mn, they can be. Sometimes, cute couples get in for free.

[At least, that's what he heard. There was a video game that had an amusement park that said cute couples get in for free. He was pretty sure some festivals or carnivals at home did the same, especially if there were love shrines and the like too.]

[ Those words are basically permission! So she immediately grabs onto his arm, smiling up a storm as she rubs her cheek against his sleeve. ]

Then let's pretend to be a cute couple today~ We'll see what happens!

[ Hehe. "Pretend." ]

[That's a little more forward than he was used to, but it was probably just the way she was. Minato thought it was cute that she was really happy, and he liked that she could be that happy.]

Cute couples usually ride the ferris wheel together. Or play some games.

[It seemed like she hadn't been to somewhere like this before, so may as well give her some options.]

Which one did you want to try first?

[ Yeah, so, she's going to go straight for the throat. None of this kids stuff! That can come after romance. ]

How about the tunnel of love?

[Tunnel of love. Minato thought about that too for a moment.]

You mean where we're on a boat and the lights are low? Sometimes with romantic music playing?

[Just checking, you know.]

[ Her eyes darken with desire along with her smile. She's sooo glad he could catch her (hehe) drift so quickly. What an attentive lover he is! ]

Yes. Exactly. Just you and me together with no one to bother us. It'll help me feel so much less shy, too. All of these people around make me so nervous.

[ That's a lie, but. Whatever. ]

[Minato looked around and then smiled at her.]

What did you plan on us doing together in there?

[Again, just checking! She was very forward, which then seemed to contradict the way she was earlier, as if she had only been with someone for the first time. It didn't really bother him. He thought it was interesting.]

Oh, I dunno. Talking to each other, so we can learn more about ourselves. [ Kissing. ]

Holding hands. [ Kissing. ]

Enjoying the quietness and the warmth of one another. [ Kissingkissingkissing. ]

I mean. [ Her cheek rubs against his sleeve again, almost like she's a cat trying to imbue him with her scent. ] If that's okay with you.

[That was a lot of romantic things. Minato didn't think it'd be so bad going with her there. What could possibly happen? Honestly too, he hadn't ever been in a tunnel of love anyway and had only seen them in the movies or read it in a manga somewhere, probably. Hm, but he did have to consider something:]

It's just dark though. How can I see how cute you are if there's not enough light?

[So that was a little problem. To him, at least.]

[ Her eyes widen. She pulls away, cheeks red and heart thumping.

Without thinking, she scrambles to get out her device and holds it up. ]

I'll keep the flashlight on! The whole time! You won't miss out!!!

[ Whatever it takes for him to say that again! And again and again! ]

[Minato smiled again and nodded, thinking it was cute that she was trying so hard.]

But I like the way your hair shines in the sun.

[Some flashlight wasn't going to be nearly enough light. But man, she had a solution for everything and she really wanted him to go with her to that tunnel of love.]

And you're cute when you blush.

R-Really?

[ AHHHH now he's got her torn! He's already being so sweet out here but she wants to be in there...!

Monika shoves her device back into her pocket. You can practically see the math equations floating around her head as she considers her options. ]

Uh. Maybe...maybe it has a section that's outside? So we can get the dark and the light? And I'll shake my hair as much as you want! A-And find some way to keep blushing!

[ Those wouldn't be too difficult, honestly. ]

[Minato nodded, thinking that might be okay. They could go check it out together and see if it did have an outdoor section of it. He started to walk with her still latched onto his arm, making sure she could keep up with him.]

We'll go see if it does. That way I can see you in the light and I'll remember what you look like when it's dark. But you don't have to work so hard for me.

[Now he sounded like he was giving her too much trouble, that she had to put in so much extra effort per his request, and she shouldn't have to do that or even humor him at all.]

Just be you. That's enough for me.
