Summary: The Red Queen has thrown a carnival for everyone!
The Story:


From Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 16, the gardens and grounds of the Mansion will be a sprawling a carnival. The masked, unspeaking vendors will be selling trinkets and running free game booths. Carnival rides, exhibits, and foods represent all of the various cultures of those currently residing in the Mansion.


Of particular note, and perhaps incongruously, everything is decorated with red hearts.

[Mirror Asriel finds Mirror Sans by the carousel, and while he can't really tell if this is a Real or Mirror, he's going to say hello anyway.]

Howdy! Do you wanna ride the carousel too?

[serifsans]

[He's thinking of going again. It won't hurt, right? It won't be bad. No one's gotten upset yet. Papyrus said he could do what he wanted. Have fun. Since it's been so long since anything was fun.]

[Fun must be this light, happy feeling inside him.]

[Someone speaks nearby, and he turns. Oh. Someone is looking at him. That means they're probably talking to him. He looks around. Maybe they're speaking to someone else. This person is...familiar, in that way that means he's supposed to know who they are. But he can't remember.]

[He wishes he knew what they were saying. It's still so hard to understand people.]

mmn?

[Mirror Asriel tilts his head a little, and then points at the ride.]

This ride here. Do you wanna ride it with me? It's more fun that way, I think!

[serifsans]

[He follows where the person points. Yes, the...it's a ride, he knows. He doesn't know the name of it, but he likes how it looks. It's colorful, but not too overwhelming. It moves slowly. It's nice.]

[He'd like to ride it, but...]

mh?

[He takes a step toward it, glancing again at the person talking to him. He's not sure what they want. It seems like they want to ride the...the ride, whatever it's called.]

[Mirror Asriel looks a little confused, and he's not entirely sure if Mirror Sans can understand or talk to him. So he cautiously reaches out and tries to take his hand.]

C'mon, it's this way!

[serifsans]

[The person reaches slowly toward him, and neither the motion nor his body language are threatening. He's small. Small usually means kids, right? This person must be a kid. A kid wouldn't hurt him...right?]

[He doesn't pull away, but he does flinch a little at the contact. The kid tugs him forward, and now he thinks he understands--the kid wants to bring him somewhere. Somewhere bad?]

[Oh. He's leading him toward the...the colorful, spinning thing that he can't remember the name for.]

[He wants to ride it? He wants them both to ride it? Oh.]

mm...

[He stares kind of wide-eyed at it all as they get closer. It's so bright. He's not sure where to look. Is this really okay? Are they really allowed?]

[He starts smiling a little. No one's coming to stop them, it seems.]

[Mirror Asriel perks up a little too, noticing Sans' change of expression. Even if he can't talk to him, it seems that Asriel's content to talk for the both of them.]

Isn't it cool? I've never been on one of these before. The other side of the Mirror is so cool...

[Whoops, maybe he shouldn't be talking about that. As they start to approach the various animals decorated the carousel, Asriel starts looking over which one he wants to ride.]

I wanna ride the dinosaur! No, the lion! No wait, maybe the tiger... aaah, there's so many good choices!

Which one do you wanna try?

[serifsans]

[The small one is talking plenty for both of them, and his tone sounds happy and excited. He's in a good mood. Which means that Sans can safely be in a good mood as well. Everything's fine. This is...a friendly thing, he thinks. Like when that nice girl gave him cookies at the party a few months ago.]

[The small one points at the different animals on the ride. He understands "which one." That's right...he can choose. Choosing is nice. And very confusing. He's not very good at it yet.]

mm...

[He looks around. He's not sure what any of these animals really are, so he just points at one that he does recognize--a big, fluffy-looking white dog.]

[Asriel beams happily when Sans' points to the dog.]

Aaa, that's such a good choice! Oh um... looks like there's a unicorn next to it. I'll pick that one!

[And it looks like the ride's getting ready to start soon, so Asriel moves towards the unicorn, turning back and waiting for Sans to follow him.]

[serifsans]

[He watches the small one and some of the others on the ride as they climb onto their respective colorful animals. He considers his dog for a moment before doing the same. It's a bit clumsy, since he's never done this before. At least from watching, he knows that all he has to do is sit here. That's nice and simple.]

[He looks over at the small one again, smiling tentatively. See, he did it right. That's good, right?]

[As Asriel climbs up on his ride, and Sans looks back over as he climbs on his, the young mirror monster gives him a wide, happy grin. He's not exactly sure if this is a fellow Mirror or one of the many Reals wandering the carnival, but it doesn't really matter. He's glad he's made a friend - if not a quiet one.]

Oh! I think the ride's starting!

[And some very cheerful music starts to play from the speakers. The ride shutters to life, and the animals start to move.]

[serifsans]

[The person is smiling at him. He likes when people smile like that, all real and genuine. It's the one thing where he can easily tell the difference between real and fake.]

[He grins back.]

[He jolts just a little as the music starts, looking around. He's watched the carousel enough by now to know that this means it's about to start turning. All the animals start moving slowly up and down while the whole thing rotates and...]

[This is amazing.]

[He lets out a quiet giggle before stopping himself. She never liked it when he laughed, and...it's one of the harder habits to break. He settles for just smiling--for real.]
