Summary: The Red Queen has thrown a carnival for everyone!
The Story:


From Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 16, the gardens and grounds of the Mansion will be a sprawling a carnival. The masked, unspeaking vendors will be selling trinkets and running free game booths. Carnival rides, exhibits, and foods represent all of the various cultures of those currently residing in the Mansion.


Of particular note, and perhaps incongruously, everything is decorated with red hearts.

[She looks up when she hears her name and spots someone nearby. Oh, hey, she's pretty sure she's seen him around.]

Hi, was that you?

Yeah. It was me.

[He smiles and gives a small wave.]

Are you the real thing or a Mirror?

[deadshapes]

Oh, I'm Real. Yanno, as Real as anyone can be, haha. What's up?

I just got this card. [He shows it to her.] I'm not really sure what to do with it, but I thought it might be about your Mirror so I was looking for her.

[deadshapes]

Huh?

[She leans forward, peering at the card. Oh...huh. That's her, except not. That information seems pretty specific. Is that what her Mirror is really like?]

Wait, so...someone's just handing out like--info cards about the Mirrors? Jeez, I've never talked to her, but that must be my Mirror. I didn't know she was mute, that's...huh.

[eatsyourscience]

The box by the front door is giving them out when you donate.

[Why he thought that was a good idea is another story for another time.]

It's a little weird, but I thought there might be some reason for it.

[deadshapes]

Oh, the donate a memory and bring back someone who we're not gonna tell you about box? Yeah, I've been avoiding those things.

[She frowns a little at the card.]

I mean...nothing ever gets explained. Maybe it's totally innocent? Just like, hey, go make a friend. Or...I mean, if you wanna get really morbid, maybe that's her freaking soul and now you have to protect it.

The card came with a piece of paper saying something about making friends.

[Of course, that doesn't preclude things from being more than they seem.]

I like to think it's harmless. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure it out when I meet her.

[deadshapes]

Hm. That seems way too simple. Stuff always has a catch around here.

[She sighs.]

But yeah. I hope it's harmless. I dunno how the Mirrors will feel about it, either. They kind of don't like us as like, a default.

Uh...but if you're looking for my Mirror...I've never met her, but I've heard she's a bit dangerous. So just be careful.

Yeah. I will be.

[He pauses.]

I'm Souji, by the way. I run the diner.

[It seems fair to tell her who he is since he walked up already knowing her name.]

Oh--yeah, I thought I'd seen you around. Nice to meet you, Souji. Uh, sorry the circumstances are kinda weird. Then again, I feel like the circumstances of meeting new people are always weird around here.

It's in Wonderland's nature. Just being here at all makes it weird to say "it's nice to meet you" when you're both trapped for an unknown length of time.

Ugh, right? Especially when it like, erases your memory, and then you're introducing yourself to the same people multiple times, and then it's super awkward when you get your memory back.

I feel strange introducing myself to people I've seen around a lot, but who I've never spoken to. It feels like I should know everyone here, but I keep realizing I don't.

[deadshapes]

It's cause we don't have town hall meetings. Or pageants. Or like, community stuff like that. Like, we have the population of a small town, but we don't act like one.

[Maybe they should?]

People do stuff like that occasionally. Maybe we should do it more often.

That'd probably be a good idea, right? Maybe I'll post about it or something, I dunno.

It can't hurt. People are usually pretty interested in anything like that.

I'm the pumpkin chunkin' girl, though, I don't think I can propose "hey assholes, let's have a town hall meeting." I don't think anyone would take me seriously. I vandalize shit for fun.

Maybe I could do it then... [He looks thoughtful. He probably could do that convincingly, being an old timer.]

Oh hell yeah. You've been here for a real long time, right? I think I saw that somewhere. I bet everyone listens to you.

Six years. [He still looks thoughtful.] I wouldn't say people listen to me, though. I'm not an adult.

[He's tall enough to look like one for sure, though.]

Dude, if you've been here six years then you're six years older than--like--how you look. Right? Cause people don't age here I think? Does that make any sense? Point is, screw 'em, if people don't listen then that's their problem.

[He smiles a little at that. He's 23 in Wonderland years, but he definitely doesn't think of it that way.]
