Summary: The Red Queen has thrown a carnival for everyone!
The Story:


From Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 16, the gardens and grounds of the Mansion will be a sprawling a carnival. The masked, unspeaking vendors will be selling trinkets and running free game booths. Carnival rides, exhibits, and foods represent all of the various cultures of those currently residing in the Mansion.


Of particular note, and perhaps incongruously, everything is decorated with red hearts.

Not gon' try? [ She eventually finishes-... well, some of it, and then sets the rest down. ] Is there anything here that sounds good to you?

[ No fried brains, R. Sorry. ]

[That, at least, isn't something that he's going to ask for. He looks around with his face pulled into a half-squint, his hand absently rubbing into the back of his hair.]

Strong f... flavours are better. [He tells her.

The thing is, he has no idea of what he could find that would meet that requirement.]

[backpacking]

[ Stronger, huh?

In that case, she nods and considers it before abruptly getting to her feet and wandering off. Not too much later, she returns with something that she drops in front of R, looking pleased. ]

Try that one. [ The stand had said "Atomic Wings," and what she's brought is a small basket of orange, goopy chicken wings that are supposed to be "nuclear," based on the advertisements. ]

And don't blame me for whatever happens...

[He waits, because what else is he going to do, trusting that the girl will actually come back. His acquaintance with Ellie had been somewhat strained at the start but he has no reason to think that she'll leave him sat here.

When she sits again, pushing the basket towards him, he peers at it with open curiosity. It's meat, but... he can deal with it.

Years spent eating people did nothing to make him consider becoming a vegetarian.

R picks one of the sticky wings up like he doesn't quite know how to hold it, but the way he bites into it is a contrast in its efficiency. He catches a stray drip of sauce with a crooked finger before he starts chewing, and the expected cardboard-taste is pleasantly overpowered with a tingle of spice.]

'S good. [He tells her, giving the basket a small nudge her way.] ... Try it?

[backpacking]

Uh... [ Ellie trails off, glancing with some apprehensive at the basket. ] ... Sure?

[ This will probably be Bad. She shrugs, though, reaching out for a small wing and peering at it before venturing a bite. A small bite.

Not small enough. The wings are insanely hot, and her eyes water as she drops the food and realizes, too late, that she has no beverage. ]

Fuck! [ She swears, turning pink, before running off again. When Ellie returns, she's chugging a bottle of water, which... does nothing to improve the experience.

[And here, R does something that he can't remember doing in a long, long time.

He laughs.

It starts as a chuckle, quickly moving into a silent display of his shoulder shaking as he covers his mouth with the curled fingers of one hand, mirth shining in his eyes. He's still giggling to himself when she comes back, and he waves one of the spice-soaked wings at her with a single word.]

Ch-chicken.

[backpacking]

What? [ Comes the indignant response. Her face is still red, her eyes watering. ] You don't even know how spicy those things are!

[ Ellie makes a strangled noise, clearly pained. ]

That - was a mistake.
