Summary: The Red Queen has thrown a carnival for everyone!
The Story:


From Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 16, the gardens and grounds of the Mansion will be a sprawling a carnival. The masked, unspeaking vendors will be selling trinkets and running free game booths. Carnival rides, exhibits, and foods represent all of the various cultures of those currently residing in the Mansion.


Of particular note, and perhaps incongruously, everything is decorated with red hearts.

"Well, befriend the mirrors and then they can..." Asgore gestures around a bit uncertainly, "be kinder, I suppose? At least for the ones who can learn to be kind. That is a difficult goal, but it is a noble one."

[postictal]

"That's the plan. It's the fact that they're pitted against us and each other that makes their lives pretty miserable, and we - uh, some of us figure that we can keep it from getting worse. Maybe even help them."

Break the Queen of Hearts's hold over them, if that's even possible.

[alphyswhatsabara]

"Well, there are some of the Mirrors here," the goatly dad said, gesturing out across the fairway.

"Have you befriended any? I have not."

[postictal]

"Kinda," says Tim. "I mean, some of them seem pretty...paranoid, which I guess makes sense. But I'm on speaking terms with a couple of 'em, so it's possible."

Clem's Mirror, for one, though he's not sure she'd consider him a friend. He can't rightly blame her for that.

"I am glad that you have had a better time than I have in interacting with them. You have a kind heart, Tim the Human."

[postictal]

That's due for a wince. It might be earnest, but it's far from...deserved, for someone like him.

"Y'know there's more than one Tim here, right? And...he's also a human?" Which kind of makes the moniker of Tim the Human less than helpful.

[alphyswhatsabara]

"Ah, two human Tims! What a world we live in with so many Tims. Are you related?"

[postictal]

"...yeah, so that's not how, uh, names work?"

People aren't related by first name? Lots of people have the first name of "Tim," Asgore? How well did you know humans, exactly, Asgore?

[alphyswhatsabara]

Asgore looks concerned, confused, and conflicted.

"But, Tim is your family name, is it not? In all of Alphys's human ani-mes, it is always the first name that humans use for their family name, and it is polite to only use that name, isn't it? Have I misunderstood human relationships?"

[postictal]

"No?" says Tim. He doesn't know how Japanese surnames work, Asgore. He's a grown-ass man who grew up in Alabama, in a hospital, for most of his life. He is inadequately informed in regards to most modern pop culture, anime included, Asgore.

"I...no. I have a last name, but it's not like anyone calls me that?"

[alphyswhatsabara]

"So... all this time I have been calling you by your... personal name? And this was not... too personal for you? I suppose you absorbed my SOUL, so really that would probably imply a close enough relationship... but... you are not from the Tim family?"

Asgore stares down into his now empty lemon shake-up cup. The remainder of the melting ice cubes stare up at him in accusation.

[postictal]

"My last name is Wright," says Tim, praying to god that Asgore doesn't interpret that in the wrong way. "As in...W-R-I...I mean, everyone I know usually calls me 'Tim' so it's not like you're being - it's fine, okay?"

Please. Please, sir. It's fine. It's fine.

[alphyswhatsabara]

Tim RIGH oh Wright.

Asgore holds his large furry hand out. "It is good to make your acquaintance, Tim Wright."

[postictal]

"We've already met," says Tim, trying not to sound as helpless as he feels. Asgore has straight-up been getting his entire name wrong just, just this whole time, and Tim never thought to correct him because he didn't realize he was getting it wrong.

But he takes his hand anyway, because it seems...rude to turn that down?

It's all been leading up to this

"That doesn't mean I shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to get your name right at least once, yes, Tim?"

You have to give him that. Probably. Or not. You do you, Tim. You do you.

[postictal]

"Yes," says Tim, closing his eyes. "Never heard that one before. Ever."

Wright lends itself to so many fun and inspiring possibilities, doesn't it? Everyone loves to riff on it, assuming they're either a) not the type to care what he thinks of their shitty jokes, or b) familiar enough with him to figure they've earned the right to make that kind of joke.

Or the third option he didn't think would merit considering, c) father-shaped goats with a love for bad puns.

"Really? Because I heard an inordinate number of 'sleepyhead' or 'daydreamer' jokes as a young Monster myself. Perhaps human children do not enjoy a good pun?"

Oh my glob he's 100% serious.

[postictal]

He's got his teeth set together hard enough to hurt, but he manages not to say anything stupid or potentially offensive.

"I meant that I've heard that...way too much. There's a lotta puns you can make from the word 'Wright,' it turns out."

[alphyswhatsabara]

"Oh, now that you say it, I suppose you are right. Right, wrong, left, etcetera. Children can often be... cruel. In their treatment of other children. Seemingly to no purpose. Were these jokes made out of malice towards you?"

[postictal]

“Not by other kids,” he says dully. His interactions with kids his age were limited up until college, and by then one couldn’t exactly call them kids anymore. Legally, anyway. Developmentally, college students tend to be all over the place. “It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”

[alphyswhatsabara]

"By adults, then? That is even crueler. I apologize for bringing up such difficult memories. It was not my intention."

Well this is awkward, Gorey.

"Do you... want another lemon shake-up?" Asgore asks. He's eaten all of his already.

[postictal]

You know what? He's fine not clarifying that. He's fine not explaining shit. He's pretty sure that's bound to only make this conversation worse and more unbearable and even more awkward, so he's good.

"...sure," he says instead, because that's simplest.

And thus the tension was resolved the Dreemurr way. By not resolving anything and pretending that it was yet another very fine day.
