[COMPLETE] Welcome home~
Who: Beast Boy, Kite, and Linda
Where: RANDOM HALLWAY. Probably somewhere on the first floor.
When: Late night/early morning; a week after his disappearance
Rating: PG
Summary: In only a week, so much had happened to Beast Boy and so many had missed him. But no one was so determined to find him as Kite and Linda were. (ALSO NO ONE SAW THAT MASSIVE FAIL I JUST PULLED)
the Story:
It was a miracle he had made it back in one piece!
It'd been kinda hard to rebuild the machine when he was impaired by his wounds, but at least he and Tino had managed to fix the "Time Machine." A few extra pieces of wire here, a couple more drawn-on buttons there, and it was as good as new! And it actually worked this time.
Tino had run off to do his own thing (no doubt make sure his beloved Pizza was still alright), leaving Beast Boy to quietly... erm, limp his way to Simon's clinic. Hopefully Raven would come down too. He'd really missed her, and her magic could really come in handy repairing his missing skin. Then he was long overdue for some serious napping and game time with River.
The Duchess had done a fairly good job patching him up though. The worst of his wounds--the claw marks on his cheek, the gaping hole in his side, the claw marks down his back--were all covered in gauze until they could be fixed up be a real doctor. But even Simon couldn't give him the Duchess' comfort, her soothing words, her motherly smile... Besides, he probably needed to go fix his clothes. They were still a torn mess despite the Duchess' efforts to sew them, and he was kinda missing his shoes and gloves. At least the floor didn't have splinters.
Well, despite it all, he was in a fairly good mood. He was back! Not any older, but possibly wiser and definitely stronger. His mirror self wouldn't be waking up to spit out more threats any time soon, at least. Secure in that knowledge, he decided to hum and upbeat tune and put a little skip in his limp.

And so, it was because of this that she rested her head against a wall to doze. The faint sound of humming eventually drifted down the hall, but the fatigued girl failed to hear it. It was mere chance that caused her jump in her half-sleep and bump her head. That jolt brought her to consciousness and brought her attention to the figure limping down the hall. A very familiar figure. A green figure.
“Beast Boy…?” she murmured, trying to quickly wipe the sleep-tears from her eyes. Was it… Was it really him…? This wasn’t just a dream again, was it? It was real? Please say it’s real, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh plea---
“BEAST BOY!” She shouted, running towards the figure.

He had to make himself rescan the mansion at least five times before he believed the data himself. After a week of non-stop searching, there it was, Beast Boy's signal blipping cheerfully at him on his map.
Seconds after Linda ran into the green shapeshifter, a blue orb fell down through the ceiling, exploding into a blaze of fire as the AI made a beeline to his friend (still kind of on fire, try not to burn yourself).
no subject
Looking up he saw his two friends making a bee-line towards him. (Well, a straight line. Bees kinda do a weird dance thing...) "KITE! LINDA! You guys--"
...they were coming at him pretty fast. Were. Were they planning on slowing down? And was Kite on fire?!
no subject
“Beast Boy! Beast Boy! I thought you had exploded and like, died or something and like, I was so freaked out, but there wasn’t any blood, so then people were like, “Ohmigosh he totally left,” but you couldn’t have because you would have told us, right? and then Kite said that you’d come back and stuff, and Kite-- KITE HE’S HERE HE’S HERE HE’S HERE HE CAME BACK HE CAME BACK HE CAME BACK! I totally didn’t know if you would and I was so, so totally worried, so worried and I couldn’t sleep because…,” her incoherent babble meandered on and on and on and on as she clung to Beast Boy and sobbed uncontrollably.
no subject
"Where were you?!" he demanded, a mixture of anger, happiness and sadness in his voice. "You just vanished, everyone was really worried and-- and we thought you had left, but I knew you'd come back, but you came back anyway! So..." He paused to catch his breath, sighing quietly into BB's shoulder.
"...And what the hell happened to you?!" He let go a little to stare accusingly at the gaping hole in his side, not to mention the torn clothes, the scratches across his face, the complete lack of shoes... "Beast Boy, are you completely incapable of taking care of yourself?"
no subject
Wincing, Beast Boy tried to sit upright with minimal pain. It was only then did he really realize Linda was crying. She was upset and it was all his fault. Why did he make everyone cry? He was like, some sort of monster. Wrapping an arm around Linda, he pulled her into a closer hug, doing his best to rub her back soothingly.
"Oh jeeze, Linda! Don't cry! Please don't cry! I'm sorry I'm such a jerk and left but I'm back now and I'm--"
He winced again, but this time from Kite's comments. If it was bad enough to make the AI swear, Kite must've been really upset. Did... did everyone really think he was gone forever? He wouldn't leave them like that, he couldn't. Especially now that...
Beast Boy's ears drooped in shame, staring at Kite pitifully. (Hopefully Kite wouldn't comment on the hemorrhage and make the shape shifter even guiltier.)
"Kite..." His hand gripped the other boy's arm a little too hard. "He... he said he'd hurt you and Linda and everyone else and..."
Suddenly his mirror's face came floating back into his memories, grinning and licking the blood off his fingers, whispering all of the terrible things he'd do if he couldn't replace the real thing--
Using his other arm, Beast Boy pulled Kite into a hug too, resting his head between his friends' shoulders. "I'm sorry you guys, I'm so sorry."
no subject
She clung to the boy as if her life depended on it, whispering over and over, “Don’t go away again, you have to take us with you, don’t ever leave us again, okay? Promise, please? Okay?”
Finally, as even the sniffling began to abate, Linda noticed two things at once.
“W-woah! You’re all cut up! And half naked!”
no subject
"" the Azure Knight muttered back. "" He buried his face in the shapeshifter's shoulder again. He also spared a moment to leave an instruction to keep a closer watch on Beast Boy's signal from now on, maybe keep a permanent log of his movements...
That aside, Kite couldn't be happier.
"Haa... are you okay?" he asked, getting back to the subject of his horrible wounds and lack of proper clothing. "Might want to fix that..."
no subject
Still, ignoring that tiny detail, he was pretty content to just sit here with his friends. It felt... right. He was back home (or at least a home-away-from-home), holding his friends, and everything was right. And hell, it wasn't as though Linda's whispers and Kite's promise wasn't triggering some all sorts of sappy emotions in him. Closing his eyes, it was taking him a minute to choose his next words. He kinda kept getting distracted by thoughts like Linda smells like bubblegum, wonder if it's natural or shampoo? and Kite's really warm, I bet he makes a good heating pad.
"I promise, guys," he murmured. "No matter what, we'll always be together. You'll always have your places in my heart."
Him and Linda and Kite. Even worlds apart, he was sure they'd always be friends forever.
He was so lost in his peaceful thoughts, he barely heard Kite's question. "Hmmm? Oh. Yeah. I'll stop by Raven's and have her patch up the worst of it. Then I'll grab some painkillers from Simon n' go to bed."
Pulling away a little, he let go of his friends and, very carefully, peeled the gauze on his cheek away with a grin. Oh, and just for added effect, he decided to point at the claw marks in excitement.
"Look, that's totally bone, dude! How sick is that?! Other me might be a wicked fighter, but he's no match for the one-and-only Beast Boy!"
no subject
However, the expression quickly changed from a smile to curiosity to utmost horror. “Other you…? W-wait! EW! BEAST BOY, I CAN TOTALLY SEE INSIDE YOUR FACE!” That’s not how a cheek worked, right?
After a few moments, Linda reached up cautiously to touch around the wound. She could so totally heal this… Maybe.
“Like, hold still, ‘kay?” The Evil King said before beginning to hum a little tune. The skin around the claw marks began to slowly stitch itself together, showing only a line of lighter shade where the hole once was. Moving back some, Linda admired her work. She still had the hang of it!
“What do you think, Kite?” The girl asked, beaming with pride.
no subject
Kite was about to retort that showing off bone was hardly a good thing and that he had worse scars anyway, but the second comment caught him a little off-guard. "'Other you'?" He cocked his head a little to one side. Why would there be two Beast Boys?
Linda's healing magic was a mild distraction, but there were more important things to deal with right now. "Ahh, it looks great, Linda. Beast Boy, what do you mean, 'other you'?" This was definitely a matter that required further investigation.
no subject
Beast Boy sighed. He didn't want to hide it from them, and no one was really gonna believe his other explanation anyways. (If anyone is wondering: "I tripped over a rock and it exploded.") Then again, he did promise Raven he wouldn't tell anyone... but they didn't have to know about the future, or about any of that. Not yet. He wanted them to be as happy as possible. Besides, it's not technically breaking his promise to let them know what happened on the other side of the mirror. That wasn't in the notes.
"Well. I didn't really go to the future. I kinda ended up in this nice lady's room with Tino. She's called the Duchess, and she's really nice and made us cookies and hugged me when I was sad and--"
Shaking his head, he tried to get himself back on track. As BB did so, his voice dropped a little, becoming quiter and grave. "Remember all my hero stories? You know that not all of 'em are good. When Raven's-- erm, when Trigon took over the world, he... he drew out the bad side in me. We fought then, but he went back to where he belonged and... I thought it was over.
He's living on the other side of the mirrors. I dunno all the details, but..."
Beast Boy paused, shuddering at the thought of his other self. "He. We fought again, but this time it was different. He was so much worse, he. He kept." Dammit, now wasn't the time for his voice to get shaky! He really didn't want to worry Linda and Kite, but they had to know. They deserved to know. Beast Boy leaned back in towards them, almost as if he was trying to hide himself in his friends' embrace.
"He was talking about how he was gonna hurt you guys if he couldn't take my place. Axel... he was gonna drag him down in the ocean and drown 'im and crush him with the pressure. And you guys and River and Harry... that mei, tāmāde húndàn was gonna--!"
Letting out a shaky sigh, he looped his arms around them again in a feirce hug, ignoring the pain that shot up his spine from the movement. He'd only vaguely learned some Chinese from hanging around the Tams so much, but he knew enough to know which ones were swears and which weren't.
"He was jealous that you guys are my friends and he wanted you," he muttered. "I had to stop him. He was hurting me and he kept describing how he'd kill you and show you my corpse and..."
Oh please please please, don't let him be crying! It was over! That was a lie, he knew it, but it was over for now.

The Evil King’s bloodlust tirade would have continued in her mind had Beast Boy not suddenly leaned closer for another hug. Wrapping one arm around Beast Boy, and another around Kite, the EPIC threeway hug (only thought possible in the minds of the most imaginative philosophers) was complete.
“Don’t worry, Beast Boy,” Linda whispered, “We could totally take this guy if he ever came back. He wouldn’t be able to hurt us if we stick together, so don’t worry.” Wiping more of her tears (she still hadn’t completely stopped crying) on Beast Boy’s shoulder, she continued to try and comfort her friend.

The AI's curled fist erupted into flames (which he was careful to hold away from his friends), his body shaking with rage. "No one... will ever hurt them," he growled. "Not as long as I live... I won't allow it." And it was never a good idea to mess with a possessive AI who could shoot you full of lasers and fire. Kite exhaled softly, the fire dispersing along with his anger. "Nnn... and he won't kill me, either."
Scary Kite!rage aside, the epic threeway hug was indeed go. He wouldn't let anyone harm Beast Boy, or Linda, or any of his friends. Wonderland was like a
secondthird 'The World' to him, and the three of them were kinda like...Well. Maybe not really, but he cared about them nonetheless. More than anything else, and he would sooner be torn apart by AIDA than see them suffer.
no subject
But really, Beast Boy hardly cared that none of that happened. His eyes were only open halfway, and his mind was drifting away with the snow outside. He felt... well, he couldn't really describe it. The best way to describe it is feeling like you do when, even through the pollution and lights and life of the city, you could still see the stars. All that mattered right now was the love he felt for his friends and the bond they shared. Right then, high on his own serenity, he couldn't help but feel like everything would be okay. Even anyone got hurt, they'd always have each other to help them back on their feet.
For the longest time, the shape shifter was perfectly happy to stay like that. But all things had to come to an end... or at least be interrupted by more pain shooting from his side.
"Nngh!" Beast Boy's hands flew to the hole in his side, cursing it for taking him away from happy land. As much as he would've loved to go back to their perfect moment, he needed to see his other friends too. Oh, and probably get these wounds fixed up first.
"Heh. Um. Anyone willing to carry a guy down to the clinic?"
no subject
“I’m sorry I can’t like, heal that,” the girl pointed at her friend’s massive side-wound, regret lacing her voice, “and I don’t think I can carry you very well, ‘cause you’re kinda heavy and I totally suck at carrying heavy stuff… But! I’ll totally come with you down to the clinic-thing, yeah? ‘Cause I bet Kite can carry you!”
She turned and smiled at the AI she had just volunteered, “Right?”
no subject
"Ahh, sure?" he said with a slight shrug. He was pretty strong anyway, despite his appearance. AIs didn't need physical muscles to lift things. Instead he just increased a small number in his program, then gently picked up Beast Boy bridal-style, floating an inch or two off the ground for convenience. He paused to run another quick scan. "Nnn, this way, right?"
no subject
When he'd said 'carry', Beast Boy had meant something along the lines of someone helping to hold him up while he limped his way to the clinic. This tactic worked too, but. Now he was half-naked, being carried like a bride by Kite, Linda was smiling at them like the very sun was behind her face, and now his stomach was making all these weird flipping motions.
Needless to say, Beast Boy was blushing so hard he looked like a Christmas ornament. Awkward levels had reached beyond Critical, they had exploded so spectacularly it would have rivaled the Hindenburg.
...but that didn't stop him from looping his arms around Kite's neck to steady himself and muttering "Thanks."
Nodding a little in the direction of the clinic, he thought that maybe that content feeling was coming back a little. In the arms of a friend while another hummed happily beside them. Yep. Things were definitely gonna be alright.
