Summary: Let's go to this creepy tavern and ask for some directions! A log for staying nice and dry inside.
The Story:




For the duration of the event, the mansion has become a dingy tavern. It has two floors, the bottom being the main tavern and the upper floor has six bedrooms with one bed and one magic closet in each room for everyone to fight over, unless they don't mind sleeping on the floor or in the tavern somewhere. With the amount of people in Wonderland, everyone is cramped together and it will be very crowded. The closets will work, however they will only provide clothing and items from time periods long gone (though they do not seem to be bound to any particular time period). There are no employees to be found in the Tavern, but there's a working kitchen with a wood fire stove and enough food and drink for everyone to last the entire event comfortably. There's even a stage with musical instruments to entertain yourselves with! There's no electricity, but plenty of candles and lanterns around.

For the entire length of the event, it will be dark outside. In addition to the never-ending night, it will pour for four days straight, and it will all seem rather ominous once it becomes apparent the sun isn't coming out. Pretty much all signs will suggest that everyone should stay in the tavern and eat, drink, and be merry with their stupid new names. But it really is tight quarters, and some might be curious to see what else is out there. Maybe there's another place to stay out there, or something. Maybe the Beast Alice spoke of is out there.

I think those are the worst ones, personally. Danger? Hah. [he holds his arms like he's holding his gun and mimes firing it.] No big. Hurry up and wait while you wonder if the other shoe's gonna drop? No thank you.

And I hate water. [the only raccoon in the world who does. good thing he refuses to admit he's one.]

Oh, theoretically. Well, I'm glad I'm dealing with a place that can bullshit its way through functionality purely on theoreticals. [and then:] Where the hell are you even from? You ain't a Krylorian.

[which is what her pink skin would normally make him think, but there ain't a Krylorian in the world that smells like that.]

The Pilgrim considers the Fool's words. He's...not the greatest at being optimistic or hoping for the best, but maybe he could be right?]

Well...maybe? I mean, the woods are pretty big. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom, I guess. Hopefully.

Yeah, it's a trick I used all the time when playing with someone. Sometimes people never could guess.

Bobby pauses to fill up a drink.

"It means ... she made the Alphas. The first monsters that went on to make all the others -- Werewolves, Vampires, Shapeshifters, Skinwalkers, Djinn...hell, probably more'n that." He takes a slow sip of his drink. He's glad that Alistair is at least smart enough to know when someone doesn't want to talk about their past. He's more than capable of and happy to ramble about monsters.

"She's older than angels, which is sayin' something."

"And it sounds like you did good together. That's a good thing, too."

"Yeah, I guess there isn't any reason to worry about something we can't change." She smiles, shrugging her shoulders. It's a tense smile, because she doesn't know exactly what she can do to help. It isn't like she can lop off a toe or something.

...actually, she doesn't know that that's true. She knows she's got an accelerated healing factor, but doesn't know whether that would extend further (it does).

"At least it doesn't seem like these events are all that long. You can probably last -- you seem like you've got it together."

It's an attempt at an apology, which is really as much as Mystique has come to ask of people. Clarke's right -- this place has aliens, so it isn't really an unfair assumption.

"1973. I hear it's a little farther along for a lot of other people." Annoyingly enough.

Yes, I'm aware of what trains do. We have discovered civilization by my time. But to go from train tracks to believing in purgatory is a leap.

Memory loss isn't uncommon, but do you really believe that's what happened? That your consciousness stepped onto another plane of existence postmortem? I'm not quick to credit magic or occult powers, but... _{[He punctuates his words with a gesture at the tavern--what had been a mansion not long ago.]} Living like this for so long lets one see there are more possible explanations than were dreamed of before.

Yeah, seriously. I mean...sure, being crowded together like this is kind of awful but it's not...

[Well. Honestly it is pretty bad, since Wirt can't get away from anyone and having their own table is probably the closest he'll be able to get to that. So, he tries that thought again.]

...it's not like, the worst thing that could be happening. It shouldn't be that hard to just stick around.

[If he can make himself do it, then so can everyone else. Right?]

[Wirt laughs a little bit at that.]

Yeah, I...there really isn't much to do here, so I guess that works out for you?

I've seen Alice, but are there any others who taunt us as well? Someone we shouldn't trust?

I think Wonderland is like that in a lot of ways. When you make friends here, for example, you spend a lot of time wondering when they're going to leave again and trying to prepare yourself for that loss.

If these things work for the Handler the same way they work in Thedas. Most things come down to demons in the end. Werewolves? Demon. Or a spirit. Similar enough. Vampires? Hunger demons. Shapeshifters.... mages. And darkspawn, also not demons. But. A lot of other things come down to demons. It tended to be the safest bet when something bad and magic happened. As opposed to the usual human bad.

"And angels?" That's not a term he's familiar with so all he can tell is that it's something that's also old, just not as old as this demon. Not especially helpful.

[It's a futile effort, but the Charlatan sighs anyway. Why does everyone have to be so...generous? It'd be a lot easier to get an economy going if everyone was a greedy jerk like him.

The Charlatan, being a man who appreciates his personal space, considers the offer for all of .5 seconds before answering flatly.]

That's never gonna happen, Handyman. Besides, I'm plenty good at guardin' my own space! People are usually scramblin' to get away from me!

[You know, because he's terrible! The Charlatan laughs though, because apparently this is hilarious to him.]

Bobby grimaces. Okay, so this is where it gets complicated.

He shakes his head. "No, no. See -- demons, they're just angels that decided to Fall. Followed Lucifer when he took his little vacation to hell after being cast out by the Father, that is, God." He isn't sure what the theistic differences between their world are, okay. "Angels 're ... they were created by God to watch over man. But Eve..." how does he explain this.

"Eve was trapped with all the other goodies in Purgatory, a sort of in-between place for the seriously evil stuff, older than anythin' else. Dragons had to sacrifice plenty of virgins to get her outta there."

I'm not a fan of danger, but at least I usually know what to do when that kind of thing happens. Right now--like you said--it's just waiting around. That can be worse than having to act.
