Tavern Mingle (INSIDE) | OPEN

Who: EVERYONE
Where: The Dark Lantern Tavern!
When: 1/15/16 -1/18/16 - The duration of the event!
Rating: Probably PG-13, will vary by thread.
Summary: Let's go to this creepy tavern and ask for some directions! A log for staying nice and dry inside.
The Story:

For the duration of the event, the mansion has become a dingy tavern. It has two floors, the bottom being the main tavern and the upper floor has six bedrooms with one bed and one magic closet in each room for everyone to fight over, unless they don't mind sleeping on the floor or in the tavern somewhere. With the amount of people in Wonderland, everyone is cramped together and it will be very crowded. The closets will work, however they will only provide clothing and items from time periods long gone (though they do not seem to be bound to any particular time period). There are no employees to be found in the Tavern, but there's a working kitchen with a wood fire stove and enough food and drink for everyone to last the entire event comfortably. There's even a stage with musical instruments to entertain yourselves with! There's no electricity, but plenty of candles and lanterns around.

For the entire length of the event, it will be dark outside. In addition to the never-ending night, it will pour for four days straight, and it will all seem rather ominous once it becomes apparent the sun isn't coming out. Pretty much all signs will suggest that everyone should stay in the tavern and eat, drink, and be merry with their stupid new names. But it really is tight quarters, and some might be curious to see what else is out there. Maybe there's another place to stay out there, or something. Maybe the Beast Alice spoke of is out there.

(Lost? Perhaps you're looking for the outside log or the event information.)

Sorry, I forgot to add Nageki's description in the later portion.

If he were thinking of it, the Ghost would wonder how a bird like him escapes notice. He hasn't seen many sentient birds in Wonderland and he's noticeably larger than the non-sentient birds. But then, he doesn't have much presence. It looks like that much still holds true.

At the moment, he doesn't think of any of that. The Ghost is currently more interested in this human is doing than in what she didn't do. "You look worried."

That's okay! I actually tried to look it up hehe

She jumps at the voice, and looks around trying to find its source. Eventually she notices the large bird, which she gives a look. "Did... did you talk to me?" The Subject can feel the incredulity in her brain, but you know what... Whatever, she thinks. I'm sick and tired of being surprised.

"Hi. I'm... the Subject. The storm's pretty bad."

(OOC: He mostly looks like a normal mourning dove, just larger. Bird sizes are never directly stated in canon, so I went with the theory that made the most sense to me.)

Having long since realized most visitors come from a time before birds gained sentience, the Ghost isn't surprised by this question. And since she doesn't wait for an answer, he doesn't give her one.

"It doesn't look like it will harm anything at least. I'm... the Ghost." He'd prefer to introduce himself with his name, but it doesn't look as though he can.

"Are you sure?" Because now that she's outside, the storm seems stronger than she first thought. She actually finds herself talking to the bird for comfort. Bizzaro. "I mean, it could get stronger, right?" She can't keep the worry out of her voice or her expression as she looks farther out.

"It could. The building appears rather sturdy though."

The last rain he'd seen before Wonderland had appeared because a button quail had been sad about losing his name. It had cleared up immediately after the Ghost had given the other bird a new one. The mourning dove doesn't think such an easy solution will work this time.

"Yeah..." The Subject has nightmares about the storm from back home. The way that tornado descended on the town... She shifts her weight uneasily, before noticing that the Ghost is getting caught up in the downpour. Shifting the objects in her hands, she covers him with the umbrella as well. "So, uhh, what kind of bird are you?"

"A mourning dove." He resists the urge to shake the water from his feathers and preens the area around his wings instead. The Subject might also notice a "wet bird" smell coming from him.

Okay, so maybe "mourning" explained his title. So many questions are coming to mind- after all, the bird is talking to her. Or rather, he is talking to her. She tries to stay away from the mindset of this... person being an animal. Or... do birds get offended if you pretend they're people? she thinks. This is gonna give me a serious headache.

Waiiit a minute. "I'm not the kid from Sixth Sense am I? I see dead people? I mean... When people die, do they become ghost birds?" That's not exactly the kind of afterlife she imagined, but it's certainly different... to say the least.

This might not have been how he would have chosen to introduce himself, but he isn't going to lie about what he is.

"I can't say what the human afterlife is like, but I was a mourning dove when I was alive. And everyone in Wonderland can see me." In that way, Wonderland is preferable to the library he haunts.
mypartnerintime: (I'm so sorry)

Oh. Ohhhh. The Subject now realizes that she may have been a bit offensive in her line of reasoning, especially because she was actually half correct. Her tone is tight and apologetic. "Sorry... Also, sorry you're... not alive." Awkward. Maybe that's why the rain doesn't bother him.

"You seem really okay though. I couldn't even tell."

It's mostly because dove feathers are coated by a dusty powder that makes them waterproof.

He knows how difficult it can be to tell what he is. He had forgotten his own death for a while. And, in Wonderland, the oddities that made him realize what he is are gone. "Hm. In a place like this, it doesn't seem to change much."
mypartnerintime: (Never minding what state I'm in)

[personal profile] mypartnerintime 2016-01-17 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Another reason this place is so weird," she says, shuffling her feet. "I heard about... you know, people who died coming here." She shrugs. "You're the first one I met." She kind of wants to probe further, but isn't sure how offensive that is. The Ghost seems to be willing to talk, at least.

She decides on a sort of neutral question. "Do you like being here? In Wonderland?" As opposed to being dead back home, anyway- it seems like an important question to her.

He died some years before arriving in Wonderland, but that's a quibble.

"In some ways it's nicer. But I have friends on Earth that I want to see again."

Which is the main reason he wants to leave Wonderland. But it's also because of how similar this place is to the Holiday Star. He doesn't like places that lure people in and then refuse to let them leave.

The Subject is still trying to wrap her head around that particular fact- that dead people can come to Wonderland. She's quite enthralled by the idea, and likes to think she's found someone who at least has some experience... being dead.

"You mean like... talking to them? Could they hear you?" That's either really sweet, or creepy as hell. Like Jaws creepy, she thinks. Obviously she doesn't say it out loud (does the Ghost even know what Jaws is?). In any case, she thinks it's more of the former.

"Yeah. They could see me, too. If they couldn't we wouldn't.... know each other." It's been too long since he's seen St. Pigeonation's and, more importantly, his friends there.

He wants to go home.

She can feel the sadness from what he's saying, and she thinks too of the people that she misses. "You must have been really close," she says, her voice soothing, sympathetic. "I miss my friends too."

Though she also feels like there's something to be glad about. The Ghost could be seen, and heard- there was a chance for him to keep his old friends and continue to be with them. She wonders how complicated that must be, and if there's any sort of regret at not moving on, at being among people but only as a ghost.

"...Indeed."

When given the choice to move on, he'd chosen to return to Earth as a ghost instead. He'll move on someday. Just not yet.

The Subject shuffles her feet, looking out into the rain. Part of her brain focuses on the fact that she just had a conversation with a bird, but mostly she's thinking about what they actually said. She'd just finished her conversation with the Puppet, and... well, she feels like being alone again.

"I think I'll head over to the stable for a bit. Just to get out of the rain."

[personal profile] mourning_ghost 2016-01-19 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Alright." Though he's not sure how the stables will help since the Subject has an umbrella.

At this point, she's seriously just looking for an excuse to be alone. But, not wanting to leave on a downer, she tucks her camera under her sweater (whatever this vintage thing is called) and props the umbrella up to cover the Ghost. "Here. You can have this," she says, bending slightly to protect her camera even more from the rain. "And I... hope you get to see your friends soon."

She knows her mood changed pretty quickly, and the Ghost would notice, but- well. That's okay.
