Summary: The Summerween Trickster has made his decree - Trick or treat...or die! This is a mingle log for Trick-or-Treating!
The Story:

On the morning of the 24th, everyone will find that the mansion was inexplicably decorated for Halloween...sort of. The idea behind the decorations is mostly the same, except that every jack-o-lantern is made out of a watermelon instead of a pumpkin. No, this is SUMMERWEEN.

For the first day it will be harmless enough, just a change in décor and a little spooky summer fun. However, by the second day there will be sightings of the Summerween Trickster, a creepy fellow made entirely out of unpopular loser candy, and he is not happy. In the entrance hall, there will be a giant jack-o-melon container with a counter and a count-down clock ticking away to the end of the event.

Your job, Wonderland, is to trick-or-treat for your lives. You have until the end of the event to deliver one million pieces of candy to the jack-o-melon before the end of the event, to appease the Summerween Trickster.

What was that? You'll just sit this out and wait for the event to end? I wouldn't do that if I were you. You see, the Summerween Trickster could be lurking around any corner. If he catches someone not fully embracing the spirit of Summerween (refusing to trick or treat, not wearing a costume, etc), they will not survive the experience. The Trickster will kill them and swallow them whole, making them part of his horrible loser candy body.

His grin widens when he spots her, even though he's tired and his cape is currently stuck in a door. She's a sight for sore eyesockets.

"kinda wish the cape was more of a good fit--" He tugs and dislodges the cape from the door. "--but oh well. i think it kinda adds to the hilarity. anyway, your costume is way better."

She smiles, a little sheepishly. "Yeah, s-sorry about the length. I kept trying to get one that, uh, f-fit me, since we're close, but they were all just, r-really really long, and, yeah. If we h-had more time, I'd get Mettaton to shorten it, but... w-whatever, as long as you enjoy it. Besides, you m-match Papyrus! Kind of."

Her kitten, Mew Mew, pops her head out of Alphys' candy bucket, also appropriately dressed, and meows, Alphys reaching down to scratch her head. "W-Well, thank you! I mean, uh, I'm just g-glad I can pull of Mew Mew, you k-know. A lot of people were more receptive to, uhm, c-cosplaying from it than I thought though."

He shrugs and flings the cape over his shoulder, trying to be dramatic. Most of ends up draping over his head, so mostly he just looks like an idiot, which is fine by him.

"nah, it's fine. no big deal. and me and paps are getting extra candy for matching. it's kinda great. tiring, but great."

His grin widens when he spots the kitten. "oh man. i couldn't even get 4 to wear a hat. he tried to straight up murder me."

She giggles, moving the hand that was scratching Mew Mew's head over her mouth, and the kitten meows in protest, then looking towards Sans and letting out a howl that attention is not being lavished upon her right this moment. Alphys grins at her and scratches her head a little more, and Mew Mew purrs.

"It wasn't easy to g-get her in it, but once I did it w-was fine. She's, uh, p-pretty okay with doing just about anything. Plus I d-dug some catnip in there. I hope 4 didn't h-hurt you too badly, though! You should've just, uhm, p-put him in your vest or something. Ooh, maybe I can get him a l-little mask!" She looks so excited at the prospect of Tuxedo Cat. "Or a c-cape or something! Cats usually d-don't mind, uhm, capes."

He has to laugh. That's pretty much 4's personality, at least when he wants attention at all. Usually he's in too foul a mood to deign to let Sans pet him.

"lucky you. i guess technically he did already have a cape one time, though i think maybe that's why he won't accept clothes now. too angry. he's such a little weirdo."

Cats are weird. They're much more than just firm dogs, apparently.

"anyway, i'm just glad this whole thing is going over pretty well."

She can't help but giggle at the idea of Sans lying on the ground, gently poking 4, and mumbling 'what a little weirdo'. It's just... so cute. She can't really place why that's so cute to her, either. Maybe it's just not what she expects Sans to do with his time? Then again, what does she expect Sans to do with his time? Sleep, maybe. Still, that's not really the point of this conversation, so she shakes it off.

"Yeah! It's, uhm, definitely an e-easier event to get through than, uhm, most of t-them have been." She's also a lot more willing to get dressed up like an anime character being a requirement vs running and barricading herself in a diner with Chara. In those terms, this feels almost like a gift. "And since everybody's doing it, it s-should be easy to, uhm, g-get the candy we need!"

Sleep, eat, harass people and lie around doing nothing. The "doing nothing" occasionally involves 4 crawling all over him and then Sans just has to pet him because--goddamn but that's cute. It was the same with the Annoying Dog. Papyrus might consider AD some kind of nemesis, but Sans always just thought the little guy was super cute. Really fluffy. Small animals kind of make a substitute blanket when they sit on you. Little space heaters or something.

"yeah, so long as you ignore this whole trickster thing, this event is almost even fun."

"I mean, I don't think anyone's a-actually, uh, seen the monster so far." At least, she hasn't seen or heard about anyone who has. She'd like to pretend that whole part was just a ruse, even though she knows better of Wonderland. "So, uh, m-maybe it's... not as dangerous as we thought. Or, uhm, he's h-happy that we're doing what we're supposed to? I mean, if he w-wants candy, going around killing us isn't, uh, v-very helpful for that. We can't g-get candy if we're dead."

"yeah, that's true." He glances around as if maybe the Trickster is lurking somewhere nearby. Stands to reason he--it?--he would be keeping an eye on things.

"wonder why he wants candy so bad. must have a huge sweet tooth. heh. anyone like that can't be all that dangerous."

He's mostly trying to humor her. Wonderland doesn't pull its punches.

"I g-guess. Maybe it's just, uhm, s-something specific to the world he's f-from? That doesn't, uhm, translate very w-well outside of it." She shrugs, not seeming very bothered at all. Usually, she'd be pretty afraid of some huge monster following them, but... no one she knows has even seen it, and it's easy to forget about when she's out and about dressing up with friends.

"Either or, I figure this is a pretty e-easy event. All you have to d-do is dress up!" She beams, obviously excited about this whole thing. She should probably be more worried about this, but... she's not.

"pretty sure he's from gravity falls. heh, we've had a whole bunch of stuff from there. i think this is the third event based on it? something like that."

Honestly, the events from Dipper and Mabel's...hometown? He guess it must be their hometown--anyway, the events from there have all been pretty entertaining, even downright amusing.

"yeah, heh, it's not so bad. as events go, dressing up and getting a bunch of candy? pretty much the best you could ask for."

"Really? T-That's a lot, uhm, c-coming from one world. I wonder if there are more b-based on, uhm, how many people from the w-world are here? Or how long t-they've collectively been in the Mansion? Does it t-take time for people's memories to work their w-way into the system?" She realizes she's been chattering, and blushes, looking away. Even though Sans does understand this sort of thing, and might even be interested, she feels embarrassed going on and on about anything.

"But, uh, a-anyway! At least it's f-fun! And uh, not as d-deadly as most other things. Yeah."

"right? wonderland must just like that place a lot. makes sense, considering from what i hear, it's a real weird place."

Wonderland probably just likes weirdness. Or maybe it's more scientific, like Alphys is saying. It'd be an interesting thing to study, if Wonderland was at all capable of being studied. Or if Sans actually cared to bother.

"but yeah, it's nice to get an easy, fun event. even if i'm not a huge fan of all the walking."

It's a nice break either way. A welcome change.

"Maybe they have, uhm, c-compatible magical wavelengths? Like, some m-magic syncs better with uhm, Wonderland's m-magic than others? It'd be, uhm, s-something interesting to study, at least, but... it'd p-probably take years." And, well, she's got bigger projects to work on- and there's the unstated truth in there, that she's hoping she won't be here that long.

"But, uhm, y-yeah, I kind of know how you feel about the activity. My f-feet are starting to really hurt." She's been resting back on her tail more often, but she can't do that when she walks, or she won't actually go anywhere. So it still comes down to more walking in the end.

"that might be it, actually." He taps his chin slightly. That is pretty interesting. Certain worlds must resonate with Wonderland better--it would explain why there are so many people here from certain worlds. And the more people from a given world are here, the more likely it is for there to be events based on that world.

It's a little surprising that there haven't been any events from the Underground yet, but Sans almost kicks himself as soon as he thinks it. He probably just jinxed it. But ah well. It had to happen eventually.

"it'd be something to pass the time, at least."

Scientists don't do too well with boredom. They end up building or inventing weird things to fill the hours. Sans once built a pneumatic water sausage launcher as a kid because he was bored. The neighbors got pretty upset when water sausages started splattering against their windows.

"yeah, heh, i've been taking lots of naps. i'm good at catnapping. maybe that's why 4 lets me live in his room."

She snickers, because of course that's how Sans would describe his relationship with 4. "Oh, s-so it's his room now?" It also, she thinks, absolves him from cleaning it, but he wouldn't do it anyway. She doesn't either. It's one of the small things they share.

"Well, uh, anyway, m-maybe I'll see if I can built a meter, or s-something, for different wavelengths. See if I c-can get some data over the next, uhm, c-couple of events, and use the meantime to establish a b-baseline. It might not turn up, uhm, anything, b-but it might be interesting just to, uhm, s-see?"

Sans isn't wrong- she's gonna start building shit. Gotta love engineers.

"i'm pretty sure he thinks the entire mansion belongs to him."

And hey, Sans isn't gonna argue. Arguing usually makes 4 start hissing at him, which is no fun for anyone.

"that'd be cool. let me know what you find."

"I w-will! There was, uh, someone a while ago talking about installing s-sensors for events, but I'm not sure it went a-anywhere. It might be useful for, uhm, preventing anything c-coming at us. Or finding a way to b-break out from, uhm, Wonderland's wavelength and f-finding others again. Or if, uh, e-events from certain worlds resonate with that worlds, uh, magical s-signature, maybe finding a way to a-adapt Wonderland's to, uh, t-theirs, and get people home?" It's a long shot, best-case-scenario sort of thing, which is... unlikely. But she's hopeful for something.

"Even if we don't t-turn up anything, the data m-might help someone." That's always been the goal, at least. And there is a whole team of other science types kicking around. Alphys shakes her head, afterwards, smiling at Sans. "But, uh, t-that's a lot of serious talk! Do you wanna, uhm, g-get back to trick or treating? We could go a-around together for a bit."

He laughs as she completely goes away into the science of it, into theories and ideas and plans. He loves this. He really loves scientists.

"heh, well i doubt you'll need someone like me for any of that, but if you did...maybe i could help or something."

It...really would be nice to get back into it. To maybe not have it all be corrupted for him again.

"but uh, heh, yeah, in the meantime, we got lots of trick or treating to do. i'm down if you are."

"Totally! I a-always need somebody to run prototypes with, or even just, y-you know, go over data. I'll let you know when I have some, uh, free t-time. I'm working on a piece for somebody now, but w-when that's done!"

Honestly, just the thought that she could work with Sans-- again, in some blurry part of her mind, again-- makes her so, so happy. She's smiling wider than she means to, but it feels good to just... be pleased to bursting.

"Yeah! Let's get o-on it. For love and justice, y-you know?"

Aw, man. She's so happy.

"yeah, heh. it could...be fun."

He hasn't done anything resembling science with anyone in...years. Ages. Maybe it would be nice to get back into it.

Or it could be a terrible idea, but. Oh well.

"hell yeah. love and justice."

"Yeah!" Fully into it, she strikes a pose, pointing her plastic wand ahead of her and jostling her candy bucket so Mew Mew pokes her head out the top. "C-C'mon! Let's get that candy and d-defeat that monster!"

She's so enthusiastic, all of a sudden. Almost confident. She smiles back at Sans. "Let's g-go!"
