Summary: The Summerween Trickster has made his decree - Trick or treat...or die! This is a mingle log for Trick-or-Treating!
The Story:



On the morning of the 24th, everyone will find that the mansion was inexplicably decorated for Halloween...sort of. The idea behind the decorations is mostly the same, except that every jack-o-lantern is made out of a watermelon instead of a pumpkin. No, this is SUMMERWEEN.

For the first day it will be harmless enough, just a change in décor and a little spooky summer fun. However, by the second day there will be sightings of the Summerween Trickster, a creepy fellow made entirely out of unpopular loser candy, and he is not happy. In the entrance hall, there will be a giant jack-o-melon container with a counter and a count-down clock ticking away to the end of the event.

Your job, Wonderland, is to trick-or-treat for your lives. You have until the end of the event to deliver one million pieces of candy to the jack-o-melon before the end of the event, to appease the Summerween Trickster.

What was that? You'll just sit this out and wait for the event to end? I wouldn't do that if I were you. You see, the Summerween Trickster could be lurking around any corner. If he catches someone not fully embracing the spirit of Summerween (refusing to trick or treat, not wearing a costume, etc), they will not survive the experience. The Trickster will kill them and swallow them whole, making them part of his horrible loser candy body.

Jane smiles softly and ducks her head, the wig hiding her face as she bites a little at her bottom lip.

"I mean it. But not just...tonight." She clears her throat. "You always look..." She takes a deep breath and lets it out. "Sorry. Please don't um...don't leave me alone in the hallway for saying that."

He just stares at her, almost like he's seeing through her. But finally, "You think I'm cute."

[endingpoint]

Jane can't even look up at him, her face turning about as red as the cape from his costume, and she clears her throat again. "So what?" she finally says defensively. "I didn't think it was a secret."

"It's not," he says simply. Truthfully, he just wanted to see her reaction. And he ends up smirking just a little, but otherwise doesn't say anything else.

Clearing her throat, Jane hears, off in the far distance, a scream. It sounds far away, but it's a scream nonetheless, and she freezes, reaching out to hold onto his arm.

"I think that thing just ate someone," she says after a beat, when no one around them runs to help and instead starts trick-or-treating with more urgency.

He doesn't move or react much when she touches his arm, suggesting that he either doesn't care or it's just so natural he doesn't really notice.

It feels unnatural not to go help, though, and Kurt starts to move forward, away from her, like he wants to go track down the source of the scream.

"Kurt, don't," she says quickly, pulling him back. "If we confront it and we're not actively trick or treating when it sees us, what do you think it's going to do to us? It only does anything if it catches you not doing what it wants, so...."

Jane pleads with him silently, knowing he wants to go help; she does too, but the screams stopped, and that means the thing has moved on.

His jaw tenses, meaning he's clearly not happy about that, and yet he knows she's right. He's no good to anyone if he's eaten by some freakish candy monster, and though the whole idea of it is utterly absurd, he's sure it wouldn't be any less traumatic for Sarah and Jane.

"Okay. Let's just...keep going."

They keep going, Sarah joining them again, the three of them sometimes parting ways, but Jane for the most part stays with Kurt. At a certain point though, sometime during the second day, she's tired and stops for a moment, just leaning against a wall and closing her eyes.

"How would it get into our rooms? Doors locked, quiet, not making a sound. How would it know to come find us, specifically?"

She just wants to quit, she's sick of it, and it feels like this will never end.
