The Story:



The Slytherin common room was a long, low underground room with rough stone walls and ceiling, from which round, greenish lamps were hanging on chains. A fire was crackling under an elaborately carved mantelpiece ahead of them, and several Slytherins were silhouetted around it in carved chairs.

The common room has changed, somewhat, from its historical description, thanks to the decorative powers of one Mettaton. Though it still extends beneath the lake and thus retains a greenish, aquatic cast, it's much more brightly lit, its cold, damp atmosphere replaced with dazzling MTT-brand warmth. Even the giant squid, occasionally peering in as it does its rounds of the lake, seems just a shade more glamorous inside such a charming space.

Students - and a ghost or two - can be found nestled within its confines, plotting mischief around the fire, studiously doing their homework (as good students do), or perhaps trading Chocolate Frog trading cards. Though Slytherin is not especially well-known for its wide-open, trusting nature, Slytherins are known for not snitching on each other; if a guest or two were to creep in for a while, then odds are, nobody saw anything.

[Pidge doesn't really talk to other people very often, even in her own house, but Clementine's making enough noise that she looks up to complain and... oh.

Pidge does have some empathy, even if it's a little buried sometimes, and she can't yell at this kid. She exhales and moves over, pulling out her wand.]

Here, give me your hand.

[Clementine blinks abruptly, staring at Pidge. It takes her a moment before she lifts her hand up. It's all bloody and gross]

It was stupid. [It's said maybe to avoid the lecture or something.]

Yeah, there are far better ways to deal with your anger. At the very least, you should be punching the instigators, not the wall. [Probably not the advice she's supposed to be giving innocent first years, but it is true. Sort of. She waves her wand.] Episkey. [The healing spell flows from her wand, making the wound feel hot, then cold, then... gone.]

[shorthair]

I thought about that, but-- [Clementine shakes her head. Maybe they're right to be scared of her. It might make her angry, but it's still true. They're protecting themselves... from her. She blinks abruptly when her wound suddenly heals like that, staring.] ...woah. Thank you.

[Pidge shrugs, waving a hand.] Might as well save you a trip to the Hospital Wing. [She slides her wand away and gives Clementine a thoughtful look, frowning slightly.]

What happened?

[Who does she have to kill?]

I wouldn't want to go to the Hospital Wing. [Clementine admits. She'd want to take care of the injury herself. She looks up at Pidge with a little smile. Slytherin take care of their own. She's learned that much.]

Some kids are just scared of me. They probably should be.

Of course they should be. [Pidge doesn't smile back, instead nodding seriously.] You're a Slytherin. That means you do what you need to and you're not afraid to be powerful. There are always going to be people who find that scary.

[shorthair]

[Clementine smirks at that. She's been taught a lot of things, but told to not be afraid to be powerful and scary and dangerous? She needed that, because most of the time she's not even when the world seems to think she should be.] I'm a Slytherin, but I'm new. I'm still getting used to thinking it's okay- good to be scary sometimes. Most people don't get it. [Slytherins do]

That's cause most people are scared. [Pidge smiles, just a little.] That reflects on them, not you.

[shorthair]

[Clementine smiles a little too but it fades quickly, thoughtfully.] Do you ever get scared?

[reverseengineer]

[She hesitates. Everyone gets scared, but Pidge doesn't like admitting she's part of that group. That being said, there's not letting bullies and teachers (and bullying teachers) know she's experiencing fear, then there's comforting a scared first year. She nods.]

Yeah. Sometimes. Everyone does. Even Gryffindors, and their whole house is focused on bravery. I just don't let it stop me from doing things.

[Clementine gets it. Admitting it, it's like admitting a weakness. It's showing a vulnerability, but she appreciates the nod like some part of her relaxes]

Me too. Not all the time but sometimes. I think being scared is needed to survive sometimes, but you can't let the fear grip you or it will stop you from doing things.

Good way of looking at it. [She smiles a little.] But I still like being scary better. When people deserve it, anyway.

[shorthair]

Yeah, I think I like that better too. [She smiles back, flexing her fist a bit] How do you know when someone deserves it? I mean, sometimes it's really obvious when they're terrible to people who don't deserve it, but sometimes it's more murky.
