[OPEN MINGLE] Or perhaps in Slytherin
Who: Slytherin House! (And friends and visitors, of course!)
Where: Slytherin Common Room, Quidditch Pitch, various places around Hogwarts
When: Duration of the event
Rating: G (will edit as necessary)
Summary: Slytherin open log!
The Story:

The Slytherin common room was a long, low underground room with rough stone walls and ceiling, from which round, greenish lamps were hanging on chains. A fire was crackling under an elaborately carved mantelpiece ahead of them, and several Slytherins were silhouetted around it in carved chairs.
The common room has changed, somewhat, from its historical description, thanks to the decorative powers of one Mettaton. Though it still extends beneath the lake and thus retains a greenish, aquatic cast, it's much more brightly lit, its cold, damp atmosphere replaced with dazzling MTT-brand warmth. Even the giant squid, occasionally peering in as it does its rounds of the lake, seems just a shade more glamorous inside such a charming space.
Students - and a ghost or two - can be found nestled within its confines, plotting mischief around the fire, studiously doing their homework (as good students do), or perhaps trading Chocolate Frog trading cards. Though Slytherin is not especially well-known for its wide-open, trusting nature, Slytherins are known for not snitching on each other; if a guest or two were to creep in for a while, then odds are, nobody saw anything.

it's perfect! <3!
Secretly, he's more relieved Klaus has time for "extracurricular" activities than he lets on. Every time Victor is confronted with a reminder of home or shares a mutually uncomfortable glance with one of his brothers in the halls, the urge to throw himself into work gets stronger, like an itch.
It's easier not to think about the life waiting for him at the Frankenstein estate without the warmth of a caring mother there to greet him. Letting go of the past and focusing on the future--isn't that what people are supposed to do?]
Then I'll see you then.
[The day passes too slowly for Victor's tastes, ignoring his silent wish to hurry along and usher him to more interesting pursuits, but these meetings are always worth the wait and the risk. Opportunities to practice new magic and someone to do it with is worth any price.
When it's finally time, Victor bounds up to the fifth floor, energetic and hopeful, more animated now that they're away from prying eyes and he's in his element. After greeting Klaus, he throws himself into a chair.]
Don't take the usual shortcut back. Peeves was covering the floor in what I'm almost positive is goofer dust waiting for someone to step in it when I passed him.
♥!!
if klaus were older, wiser, and not the impressionable youth he is, perhaps he'd think twice about his friend's capabilities. but he is just a young man and there was a time when these clandestine meetings with victor were one of the few highlights of terror-ridden years.
it used to be not only for protection and his family, but for the thrill. the ultimate and secret rebellion against his parents: mastering what they have mastered and taken pains to keep secret, all under their noses, with their books. perhaps it could save him and more importantly, perhaps it could hurt them. when klaus had found the mikaelson's dark, hidden library at a small age, anger and bitterness had compelled him to taking down a tome, then two, then four. for one night, then another, and another. he would huddle in a corner and read until the gray of dawn and soon sneak back to bed, the household none-the-wiser.
when victor came to hogwarts, he found a companion too.
now... now klaus has camille, and he knows without any doubt what she would think of these meetings.
he knows, thinking of his family, he has no choice but to have them, too. ]
Such dedication to his craft. [ peeves is more of a troublemaker than any student and it would impress klaus, if klaus put much stock into troublemaking. in his opinion, a good troublemaker doesn't get caught. (look at him, a prefect with a spotless record, breaking rules left and right.)
he's leaning on the back legs of his chair when victor sits, a book on the many magical uses of blood sacrifices open in his lap. ]

[Exasperated disdain drips from his voice. If Victor is aware of the irony of mocking Peeves for obsessive behavior, he doesn't show it.
There's a considerable difference between them, he thinks--Peeves moves in circles, never aspiring to be anything greater than what he is. Victor wants be the kind of person who moves in a line. A vertical line, ascending higher and higher. Who knows what he'll reach at the top, should there be one. He's beginning to think there is no end, just greater heights to reach.
That's his wish, anyway. He thinks he's just barely gotten off the ground, and there are people who still outclass him in more ways than one. One of them is currently sprawled in a chair with effortless grace, looking as calm and collected as if he'd Apparated straight into his seat, no sneaking required. Klaus has that air about him--like he can do anything, go anywhere, be anyone. Victor envies his natural self-assurance.]
What did you get?
[Like a child under the Christmas tree, Victor approaches the books like they're wrapped presents.
He wouldn't dare speak it outside of his thoughts, but he envies this, too. The books, the Mikaelson family's resources. Klaus has access to so much that Hogwarts couldn't even dream of.]

for as much as klaus clings to these studies, as viciously as he takes to learning these arts, he would not wish them upon anyone. but it comforts him nonetheless, to have a companion. he's always been told he is selfish and perhaps he is, devoid of so many things that he clings to what he can and does have.
klaus' smirk is knowing as victor leans over with all that greed and glee. he reaches into the pile to pull out a volume he snatched with his friend in mind, and offers it to him. ] The Thaumaturge's Workbook. [ such a harmless, seemingly good-intentioned title.
that happens to be a piece of the infamous necromancy work of a dark wizard, some few hundred years ago. ]
no subject
Not that he would ever admit these thoughts. He copies Klaus in affecting a facade of self-sufficiency. If their wounds won't heal, they'll put on armor to hide them.
But when Klaus picks out a specific book and holds it out, there's no facade at work in the way his eyes pop wide when he gets a good look at the cover, a flare of color in his otherwise colorless features.]
Is this real?
