[OPEN MINGLE] Or perhaps in Slytherin

Who: Slytherin House! (And friends and visitors, of course!)
Where: Slytherin Common Room, Quidditch Pitch, various places around Hogwarts
When: Duration of the event
Rating: G (will edit as necessary)
Summary: Slytherin open log!
The Story:

The Slytherin common room was a long, low underground room with rough stone walls and ceiling, from which round, greenish lamps were hanging on chains. A fire was crackling under an elaborately carved mantelpiece ahead of them, and several Slytherins were silhouetted around it in carved chairs.

The common room has changed, somewhat, from its historical description, thanks to the decorative powers of one Mettaton. Though it still extends beneath the lake and thus retains a greenish, aquatic cast, it's much more brightly lit, its cold, damp atmosphere replaced with dazzling MTT-brand warmth. Even the giant squid, occasionally peering in as it does its rounds of the lake, seems just a shade more glamorous inside such a charming space.

Students - and a ghost or two - can be found nestled within its confines, plotting mischief around the fire, studiously doing their homework (as good students do), or perhaps trading Chocolate Frog trading cards. Though Slytherin is not especially well-known for its wide-open, trusting nature, Slytherins are known for not snitching on each other; if a guest or two were to creep in for a while, then odds are, nobody saw anything.

[Jemma isn't sure when they stopped speaking of spellcasting or broom riding or if she was being oversensitive, but the angle of Klaus's eyebrow and the tone of his voice told her that she wasn't and now she had to figure out where she was in this]

Yes, of course the original casting has weight. Otherwise there wouldn't be magical objects that can influence our will.

[ why not both? he's certainly speaking of both, and yes, he is enjoying both conversations. klaus leans forward over the table, the better to seem absorbed in the discussion. ] Well, that is a whole other realm of thought. [ a darker realm, one of magics they shouldn't know too much about. klaus certainly does. ] Are you two familiar with the enchantment? Of brooms, I mean. [ lol ]

[Wait, but why would they have stopped talking about spellcasting and broom riding? Klaus even re-emphasized it at the end there. People really ought to just say what they mean and avoid doubling their conversations.]

Oh, yes -- I've not been able to formally pull out of flying lessons, so I've made an agreement with Professor Stark about submitting a redesigned broom instead of participating in the final examinations. You know how those sporty types are, always caring more about going faster than understanding how the things work. Jemma's been helping me charm the prototype properly.

[He's fairly certain that Klaus already knows this, but perhaps he's just forgotten.]

[The now all too obvious entendre has sent her to blushing, her cheeks heating to a deep pink.]

It's more Fitz's wheelhouse than mine, but I am enjoying learning more as the project develops.

[Nothing about what's happening subtextually is Fitz's wheelhouse. But maybe the cold answer will discourage Klaus.]

[ klaus rarely forgets. he knows fitz has been working with professor stark. he could guess, even if he didn't know, that jemma is his partner: after all, she always is.

if he's not been too obvious by this point, the gleam of amusement and dark vindication in his focused gaze is an all-too-obvious indication. that blush speaks more than double entendres ever could. the truth of the matter is he means to rock the boat. for his friend's sake; that is. fitz may not realize it yet, but klaus does.

jemma could so easily break his heart.
]

I hope you are. [ is klaus' response, voice leveled. after a short pause in which his eyes do not leave jemma's, he glances fitz's way. ] It's clearly an important project.

[If either of them would come out and say this was about some imagined romance, Fitz would be at liberty to dismiss it outright. She's his best friend, that's all. They work well with one another, in a way that's more perfect than any other partnership before or since. Romance would just complicate matters. Emotions ruin research. It's best to remain objective.

But as it is, Fitz merely nods, because of course this is still about broom mechanics.]

I think it could provoke some interesting conversations among the developing community, at least. And -- oh! That really is a remarkable conclusion you've underlined, Jemma, thank you.
bravejemma: (excuse you)

[Normally, Jemma was not one to get flustered. But this was not a normal conversation and Klaus had her at the disadvantage. She looks away quickly, murmuring to answer Fitz.]

Don't mention it.

[ his meaning communicated, klaus leans back once again, casually resting an arm along the head of fitz's chair to read said conclusion. this time, he does give his full attention to the article, for the most part. ] That is quite tidy. It'll certainly help. [ he says, and then lifts his eyes again to jemma.

he knows he's come ahead here

Jemma's quite skilled with loads of talents.

[ He continues to fish, but gives Klaus a deliberate stare. ]

Perhaps there are other projects she sought to review as well.

[ Can we tell her about the werewolf thing now?

[This was a mistake, why would anyone willingly subject themselves to such prodding and teasing?]

I interrupted, I shouldn't -- you were working.

[She's talking to Fitz. Just so you know.]
