The Story:

Common Room
The common room is a circular room where Gryffindor students can relax after a long day of studying. It is full of squashy armchairs, tables, and a bulletin board where school notices, ads, lost posters, etc. can be posted. The common room is decorated in several shades of red, which is associated with the house.

There are many windows that look out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace dominates one wall. The mantle of the fireplace is adorned with a portrait of a lion. The walls are decorated with scarlet tapestries that depict witches and wizards, but also various animals. There are also bookcases located in the room.

Dorms
The Gryffindor dormitories are also located in the Tower, with two doors leading off from the common room that open to spiral staircases. One of them leads to the girls' dormitory, the other to the boys'. The stairs to the girls' dormitory are enchanted to become a slide if any boy attempts to climb them, but not vice versa, since it was deemed that girls were more trustworthy than boys... (Look don't blame me it's canon)

I'm just … old.

[ barry squints his eyes and shakes his head, pulling himself to throw his legs onto the table right in front of the couch. there's space for henry to occupy now that barry's not being selfish and hogging it. ]

[ he thinks on whether or not he should tell henry. it isn't like his mother wouldn't know, given she's a professor, and the professors all must've had a say on whether or not it was right to give a student a time turner. but he doesn't know if he wants to put it in his head, or even worry his young friend who has so much else to worry about. ]

Remember when you told me all those cool versions of fairytales a while back? And I said I owed you one? I should've given you a coupon to use.

[ Sitting, Henry listens and nods, eyebrows raising because he's pretty amused. ]

What, exactly, does that mean? You definitely don't have to owe me anything, first of all, unless you wanna buy me a boatload of candy next time we can go to Hogsmeade.

You won't tell anyone I bought you a buttload of candy? I don't think I'd make a great candy man.

[ he adds that to his mental list: buy henry a buttload of candy, sneak it into his room, don't let anyone figure it out. easy. even though him being caught sleeping in the common room may elicit doubt in those who he proposes this to, he's as good as his word. he may even throw in another random object just for fun. henry deserves to live a little. ]

We're friends, right? Friends tell each other things. … And buy each other a lot of candy.

Of course not, I'm not crazy. Plus, my aunt buys me candy all the time so everyone'll just figure it's her if they see me with it. No big deal.

[ But then Barry's asking him if they're friends, and Henry raises an eyebrow. ]

Yeah, of course. Candy goes both ways.

I told my mom I'd stop eating so much candy but … it's rude to say no when someone offers you something, right?

[ right, henry? he's allowed to go on a sugar high and experience an incredibly horrible sugar crash over the hogsmeade weekend. it's all a part of being a sixth year. you're supposed to make horrible mistakes so the younger students know what to avoid when they're that age. he's doing his duty as prefect, educating others in what not to do. ]

[ for the moment, barry forgets what he'd wanted to tell henry. hogsmeade is one of his favourite "events" in hogwarts, and knowing henry's officially able to come along and enjoy himself only kicks him into gear in wanting to give him a very horribly timed itinerary. (no one can be in two places at once like barry allen.) ]

You should take some candy to the Shrieking Shack. It's the best thing to eat when you're waiting to see the shadow inside of it approach the window.

I mean, it's not like you're eating an entire bag of candy all by yourself.

[ It's totally okay if you're sharing. ]

Man, my mom and my aunt both told me not to go to the Shrieking Shack at all. No clue why. I'm pretty sure it's because they went when they were our age and something happened, but no one will tell me.

[ In actuality it's probably because they don't want him 'getting into trouble.' Whatever. ]

[ barry leans forward, as though he's about to divulge a secret. henry may or may not have heard of the stories of the shrieking shack, and given he has family who must know the ins and outs of hogwarts and some of its own spooky stories, perhaps this had been a bedtime story he'd been told many times as a lesson to stay far away from fenced off things. ]

There's something in there that's alive. [ he shrugs his shoulders. ] I don't know what, but there's a reason why it got its shrieking name.

My mom and my aunt have both told me different stories. I heard it's haunted by a witch who had an unforgivable curse cast on her.

[ His voice is low now too, because those curses are not to be taken lightly. ]

[ the story barry likes to tell iris is one that he'll have to wait a few decades for henry to grow older before he repeats it. ]

[ he appears surprised, like he hasn't heard this story before. so many surround the shrieking shack that they all begin to melt into one another. but barry's always liked henry's stories. ]

[ matching his low voice, he asks, ] Do you know what kind of curse?

Cruciatus. That's why there's all the screaming.

[ Henry's never really sure which story to believe; of course every student's heard a different thing. WHAT'S YOUR VERSION BARRY. ]

Anyway, it's probably nothing but I also don't want to risk it.

[ Because mom. And aunt. ]

Now are you gonna tell me why you're willing to bribe me with candy?

[ when henry's 80 and finally dating he'll tell him his version of how the shrieking shack got its name. 😉 ]

Because I need a friend! [ another friend besides iris, obviously. ] A cool friend. Someone who's going to really enjoy standing out in the cold for a really long time waiting for people to scare.

You seem perfect for it. [ he smiles, then his entire demeanour changes because barry allen doesn't like to presume. ] If you're interested. You might have other plans ... Which is cool! I can stand there by myself.
