The Story:

Common Room
The common room is a circular room where Gryffindor students can relax after a long day of studying. It is full of squashy armchairs, tables, and a bulletin board where school notices, ads, lost posters, etc. can be posted. The common room is decorated in several shades of red, which is associated with the house.

There are many windows that look out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace dominates one wall. The mantle of the fireplace is adorned with a portrait of a lion. The walls are decorated with scarlet tapestries that depict witches and wizards, but also various animals. There are also bookcases located in the room.


Dorms
The Gryffindor dormitories are also located in the Tower, with two doors leading off from the common room that open to spiral staircases. One of them leads to the girls' dormitory, the other to the boys'. The stairs to the girls' dormitory are enchanted to become a slide if any boy attempts to climb them, but not vice versa, since it was deemed that girls were more trustworthy than boys... (Look don't blame me it's canon)

[If Shepard is in the common room, she's causing a ruckus- talking loudly about Quidditch, their homework, or just getting very, very engrossed in a game. She's absolutely rubbish at chess, and much happier to arm-wrestle people. Challenge her if you dare... or come over and try to get her to settle down. Best of luck, though. She's a 7th year and avid Quidditch player, she turns down for nothing.]

[ If there is one thing you quickly get used to as a Gryffindor its the loud and rowdy common room. If you need to study, or work on something important, most of the time Gryffindors will go to the library and avoid the headache the common room will cause. So Billy doesn't mind at all when he's interrupted by Shepard commandeering the couch across from him. In fact he shoots her a grin and closes his book. ]

[Most of the time that Connie's in the common room, you can find her either studying, working on homework, or reading books. Sometimes, she'll also have a violin out, and be playing off of some sheet music. 'Just because you're at magic school is no reason to shirk on your violin practice!' is what her parents had told her, after all- though, to be fair, she still shirks it a lot. Lying about how much she's following her schedule is even easier when her parents are nowhere to be found!]

[You can ask Tim what he's actually doing here. He doesn't mind, really. Honestly, even as a seventh year, he's still trying to figure it out himself. Why's he here? Why's he at Hogwarts? And why, for the love of god why is he in Gryffindor of all places? He's not brave. He's not even a little brave. He just doesn't get it.

You might see him in common room, crammed in as out-of-the-way a corner as possible as he labors of homework with painstaking slowness and grumbling frustration. He's not much good at a lot of his classes, he's come to think. Sure, he scrapes by with average grades, but that's if he really, really applies himself - and some days, he doesn't even have that much in him.

The only class he really excels at is Potions, and he doesn't really understand why. It's basically chemistry, and he always sucked at that kind of thing too.

Sometimes you might catch him sneaking out at night - insomnia's a bitch, wouldn't you know - just to sequester himself in an empty classroom and quietly practice the same spell, over and over.

But no matter what he does, he's never been able to produce a Patronus, and likely never will.]

[So hands up, who's surprised that Zacharie is breaking curfew with the grace of a rhino in a china tea shop? Nobody, that's who. Spells that unlock doors were a thing of beauty. That said he is more stealthy than the narration was giving him credit for, or else he would have been tossed out of the school a long time ago.

Tonight's adventure was a quick trip to the potion's class and back. Naturally, however, there were cases where he'd have to duck into a supposedly empty classroom to dodge the sound of footsteps about to round a corner. Invisibility cloak, he does not possess. And it looks like tonight's classroom of choice wasn't as empty as he thought it was.

He closes the door quietly and raises a finger to the 'mouth' of his cat mask.]

Hogwarts is too quiet- not like her farm back home, and she tends to wander when she's bored, so she slides in, closing the door silently with her hands before turning and meeting his eyes. She... vaguely recognizes him. Same grade. Same house. They've gotta share classes. She's just... not sure if they've ever talked.]

[ iris west is the quintessential gryffindor: determined and brave, with nerves of steel. she is also kind, generous, and understanding. to the surprise of exactly no one, she was made prefect and takes her responsibilities pretty seriously. iris knows how to let her hair down and have fun, but she also knows there's a time and place for everything. some rules are meant to be broken, but that doesn't mean there should be no rules at all. she is protective of her peers, protective especially of those who are younger. she makes sure no one takes advantage of them. if anyone has a problem or is in need of advice, it's often iris they come to.

that means she makes herself readily available. it's hard to miss the prefect badge that glints on her robes. she can be found helping the first years with their homework or in the common room, catching up on some homework of her own. if she sees someone she knows, she'll greet them with a warm smile and offer them a seat at her couch by the fireplace.

and yes, she will also be patrolling later on in the evening.

if you're breaking curfew, you better hope iris doesn't find you. she is skilled af when it comes to finding what tries to remain hidden. ]

[Clementine is not a Gryffindor but she is out after curfew. It's hard for her to stay in any one place sometimes, and she knows she should be at her own common room, but she doesn't want to be. She wants to walk around with that restless angry, sad emotion inside of her, because most people know she's killed somebody with a gun and she's a first year and this is not how someone makes friends.]

[ these days, barry allen's faster than the speed of light. one moment, he's there, the next, gone. some of the students see him in two places at once — when he's with iris, he's also in the library, and then he's seen walking out from professor wells' office, most likely scoring himself a detention again, just when he'd been spotted out on the grounds so far away from the castle. it's all unexplainable, but barry can explain it — and he's wondering if he should. ]

[ that's how he gets up into the girls' part of gryffindor tower, and that's the reason why he's lying on iris' bed. the stairs hadn't fallen away underneath his feet when he'd climbed them, and that's a skill in itself that wraps up into the belief perhaps barry allen's the fastest wizard alive. ]

[ he was lounging on iris' bed; now he's asleep on iris' bed. after arriving a good ten minutes ago and waiting for her to inevitably come up the stairs, he's fallen asleep. ]

[ that's the thing about using a time turner to take more than the allocated number of classes: you fall asleep when you otherwise want to try and humorously reenact a scene where there's a rose in his mouth and petals lying the floor. but there's no rose and there's no petals, just barry allen with his spell book open on her bed as he rumples her sheets for her. ]

[ barry allen, sixth year gryffindor prefect, is asleep on the couch. head lolling over the arm of it with his herbology book open and pressed against his chest, he may be snoring just a little as he sleeps. (and definitely mumbling. no, no, not the pies!) ]

[ it's not an uncommon sight these days. sometimes barry falls asleep in class, in the library, even at the most exciting of quidditch matches when there's an incredible lull in the game. he falls asleep in detention, divination, but never when he's in the great hall. he's wearing himself a little too thin, but he won't admit it. ]

[ barry allen has a secret — and it's a good one. why is it he's seen everywhere and anywhere all over hogwarts at the same time? despite being a student who studies and doesn't study all at once, he's not necessarily the worst. his grades are high and he earns the same number of points as he's responsible for losing (albeit, it's never quite attached to his name). he has a time turner for his studies, and he works it expertly. ]

[ but he hasn't quite figured out how to work himself. a long, lanky boy hogs the entirety of the couch in the common room, and it doesn't seem like he's about to get up and make room for anyone else any time soon. ]

HALLWAYS, CLASSROOM WALKING OR MISCHIEVIOUS KNIGHTS

[ whether he's walking the hallways to get to class (or to where the food is — it's never mattered to barry whether or not it's lunchtime or dinnertime when his stomach's grumbling) or patrolling, barry allen's always one to turn a blind eye to a good gryffindor who's up to no good. as long as mischief's managed, that's what counts, isn't it? ]

[ because he's in a rush to get to his next class — he'd accidentally turned his time turner a few clicks too late — he bumps into anyone along the way, and helps them pick up their books if the force of the collision is enough to knock them about. ] Woah! I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Common Rooms

[Rose is probably the last person you want hanging out in the Common Room if you're actually trying to study. If she's not talking loudly with one of her Quidditch Teammates about how they're going to destroy Slytherin or explaining why the Holyhead Harpies are the best team to have ever existed. She's probably lazing on one of the couches and planning the next trip to Hogsmeade.

Studying however, is the last thing she's likely to be doing because unless it's Defense Against the Dark Arts? Rose doesn't really care too much. Anyone who happens to have potions with her can attest that it shows. She'll probably never live down the time classes had to be moved because it took them a week to get the smell out of the dungeons after a horribly failed attempt at making a Confusing Concoction.]

Great Hall

[No matter the time of day, when it comes to meal time? Rose is a desert first kind of girl. Her plate always piled high with Pumpkin Pasties, Cauldron Cakes and Treacle Tart. She's generally pretty social during meals, chatting to whoever happens to be sitting nearby or heckling Quidditch players at other House Tables whenever she has the chance.]

[Lily seats herself diagonally from Rose at dinner, offering a knowing smile across the table as she hears one of Hufflepuff's players shouting in response to one of Rose's recent heckles. James, naturally, is just as loud about his Gryffindor pride, and the rivalry between Quidditch teams has always been strong.]

Keep that up, and people are going to start throwing food along with insults-- again.

"Thanks, Aunt Zelena," he murmurs under his breath, then gets to work unwrapping trading cards. He's sitting in the middle of his bed and looks up as someone walks in. "Want a chocolate frog?" Doesn't even matter who it is, he pretty much likes everyone.

[ sixth year, beckett warner, spends most of her time in the common room poring over various divination texts, from basic crystal-gazing to more difficult subjects such as cartomancy and dream interpretation. after five years at this school, she's finally found something she's really good at, and it's the subject she least expected to have any measurable talent in. her corn snake, meret, is usually with her during this time and can be found dangling from her neck or wrapped snugly around her forearm. (it's okay, she doesn't bite!)

later, during meals in the great hall, she seems distant and barely touches her food. the anniversary of her mother's death is next week, and it weighs heavily on her mind when she's not otherwise preoccupied. ]

[Evelyn does not frequent the Gryffindor Common Room for a number of reasons (Quidditch players. Those are the reasons.) Dashed difficult to sit down and study, for one, when everybody in the place gets rowdy, starts a new chant, acts generally disruptive. Better to leave the attempt at control to the prefects, who may or may not successful broker peace in the public area.

No, she is more likely to be encountered elsewhere, most often with her nose in either a book or the air. Having been a sheepish thing in her early school years Evelyn has since collected her druthers and made it well known that she suffers neither fools nor academic floundering, an ambitious learner with a deep and abiding loyalty to friends.

An avid talker she will engage almost anyone in the Great Hall at mealtimes, regardless of House and eager for debate, and the library sees her more often than her own bed, wandering the stacks and occasionally doing her damnedest to finagle her way into the restricted section for further reading.]

Common Room

[Georgia's known to be a very responsible student. That's probably why they made her a prefect. She's serious, gets her homework done on time, and doesn't make trouble, even if she has a tendency to stay up working in the common room way later than she probably should. For the most part, she can be found working, either on homework or on her newest article for the school paper she's trying to get started.

Occasionally, especially when the sun is at just the right angle to shine directly into the common room, she has to take a break, rubbing her eyes under her sunglasses. She very rarely lets on exactly how much the migraines hurt, but oh they hurt.]

Patrols

[Ostensibly, Georgia is patrolling for students out of bed, and if she catches you, you better believe she won't lie to the teachers for you. She's nothing if not exceptionally honest. However, she's certainly enjoying the opportunity to be out and about and exploring with full permission. She taps her wand against a small medallion she wears around her neck every now and again and records notes to herself. Observations, ideas, thoughts for future articles, whatever's on her mind.

She won't lie for students who are out past curfew, but if they've got a good reason, a good story that's keeping them out of bed, well, she doesn't have to dock points. She follows the rules, usually, but there are things more important than rules.]

[George does homework. Shaun... gets a lot of detention. Sure, he does homework too, but not nearly as much or as well as George. That (and all the detention) is probably why he's not a prefect, which is totally fine by him. George gives him the passwords anyway--all the the benefits, none of the responsibility.

There is one thing he takes seriously, though, and that's George's health and well-being. So when she takes a break from her homework to start rubbing at her eyes, he can tell she's getting (or already has) one of her epic headaches. He nudges her gently with his shoulder.]

<sub>[Anders is another of the painfully apparent shoehorns for Gryffindor House, big-hearted or big-mouthed depending on the day, and another permanent fixture in the common room after classes, perched on the arm of a chair to socialize or cheat (collaborate) on homework with friends.

It's almost Halloween, so it's about time his housemates start looking forward to something epic. For every year he's been at Hogwarts he's tried to keep his fellow housemates on their toes around the holidays. (Last year for Christmas, those who'd left had come back to find the entire common room gift wrapped in wrapping paper, waiting to be opened for the new term. Merry Christmas!) Sometimes he can get carried away with pranks, but he makes up for it by always being up for a good dare.

Find him for a game of Exploding Snap or a picnic of cobbled-together snacks out on the grounds to enjoy the last of the warm weather. Or if you're one of the many overworked students needing those extra few hours to study, for a Wideye Potion to keep you awake. One of his many gifts to the student populace he homebrews, with a little extra kick for those all-nighters.

Oh, and Gryffindors? Remember to charm the toilet paper to stay on the rolls. Otherwise don't be surprised to find Ser Pounce-a-lot, his familiar, keeping you company on your visit to the tower bathrooms.]

John | 7th Year OTA

[John is one of the unfortunate 7th years who's come down with a really serious, incurable affliction- senioritis. Of course, he's trying to at least make it through his N.E.W.T.s, but the further he gets into the year, the more it becomes clear he's phoning it in. Most of the time he can be found wandering the grounds, slacking off and fucking around, usually with his best friend Dan.

Occasionally he can be found in the common room when he wants to attempt studying or when he's looking for his Maine Coon who, despite being dog sized, keeps slipping away to chase mice. Not a lot of studying gets done, though, and usually it ends with him wasting more time. If you're looking for firewhiskey this is where to get it. He'll only sell to 5th years and above though.

On rare occasions one can find John in the library pouring over books on creatures and the dark arts. His greatest ambition is to be an auror, and Merlin help him he's gonna be read up on all of this and be the best. If only there was a way to get into the restricted section...]

Lily Evans, 7th Year | OTA

[Most evenings and during any free periods between classes, Lily is likely to be found in the Gryffindor common room. She has a favorite armchair by the fire that she likes to claim if no one else has beaten her to it, and while much of her time among her housemates is spent with James and his friends, she also takes the time to reach out to younger Gryffindors and offer her assistance with their work, should they appear to need it. She's no longer a prefect, but she remembers all too well how overwhelming Hogwarts had been her first year, and each year that follows comes with a new set of challenges. She has a smile and a kind word for most anyone that comes through the common room while she's there-- which is usually until the fire starts to burn low late in the evening.]

[For all her Gryffindor pride, however, Lily certainly isn't against mingling with students from other houses as they all go about their days. She can be found in the library most days immediately following classes, usually spending a good hour or two making use of the mostly quiet space and resources provided before heading off elsewhere. The dining hall is always a welcome sight at the end of a long day, and there she can be found happily eating and laughing alongside her fellow Gryffindors, as well as chatting with any other friendly students who happen to pass by.

Additionally, she can be found at the Quidditch pitch whenever the Gryffindor team is having practice-- or even if James is practicing solo or one-on-one with a friend, Lily herself situated happily in the stands with her reading. Over the weekend, she'll be spending as much time as possible in Hogsmeade, letting schoolwork fall by the wayside to make the most of the opportunity to visit the village, including a long sit at the Three Broomsticks as well as a stop at both Dervish and Banges and Scrivenshaft's.]

Common Room

[ Billy knew Lily would be sitting in her favorite chair when he entered the common room and he wasn't disappointed. She was curled up with a book and Billy took the opportunity to flop down on the couch next to her spreading out his books and parchment. ]

Please tell me you did the Transfiguration homework and that it makes sense because my work looks like nonsense.

Caitlin Snow, 7th Year Prefect | OTA

COMMON ROOM.

[ The Gryffindor Common Room could be called "organized chaos." Just... minus the "organized" part. Most afternoons and evenings, Caitlin can be found knee-deep in it, despite her own mile-high stack of work. Only a month into the school year, there's first-years still in need of soothing; some of them have never been away from home for any length of time, and she's stumbled into more than one hiccuping about how they want to go home. There's others that need help with their work (and some who just don't want to do their own work) and some that get into ridiculously petty arguments and still some whose arguments go beyond shouting and need to be walked to the infirmary.

(If only those students would put half as much effort in their studies as they do their hexes and jinxes.)

When things finally wind down, she manages to find a spot to sit and rest and chat before disappearing into the library to study. On her way back in before bed, she's quick to do a sweep for anyone not in bed or looking to draw on someone else's face while they sleep. ]

EVERYWHERE ELSE.

[ The library is the one other sure place to find one Caitlin Snow. She's not idle the minute she finds a place to settle in; as soon as she sits, the books are open, the parchments unfurled, and she doesn't stop (willingly) until everything's done and her fingers are stained and dotted with ink. It's not uncommon for her to wander out of there with streaks of black ink on her chin or cheeks, and she'll blush and be exceedingly embarrassed if you decide to point them out.

In the mornings, she's one of the first at Gryffindor's table in the Great Hall and one of the last to leave. In between bites of her own breakfast, she's helping with last minute questions, reading the Daily Prophet, and looking over her mail, if there's any. She's also just as likely to sneak away to other houses' tables to chat with friends there.

And of course, she isn't about to miss a Hogsmeade weekend. She visits Zonko's Joke Shop to see what might turn up in the common room, so she can be prepared, Scrivenshaft's to stock up on new quills and inks, Honeyduke's to get some sweets for herself and some to use as incentives for uncooperative Gryffindors, and Tomes and Scrolls to find something light to read in the scant amount of free time she has. ]

Leonard Church (Epsilon) | OTA, Will match format

[ Papyrus is uncharacteristically asleep, for once. Sitting on the soft, plush couch of the commons area and trying to finish his overwhelmingly boring long essay for Muggle Studies has been a tedious journey, indeed. nothing puts him to sleep faster than stories. And Muggle Studies? Fanciful ideas of the muggle world.

Stories, to a skeleton who'd not experienced such a place.

His upper body is sitting up straight, though his head is craned downward. Arms lay slack against his sides. It seems that a word he was writing on the paper has trailed off, and the quill seems to have fallen onto the floor some time ago.

His snoring is soft and quiet.

[This is downright adorable. Everybody on the Gryffindor Quidditch team loves Papyrus- his exuberance and positive vibes always make all of them want to do their best, just so he can be excited about the victory. Shepard, however, is also aware that he practically never sleeps, so she almost feels bad bothering him, because getting him to pass out again is probably going to be an effort she's going to lose. But she also doesn't want him to not turn in his homework. So she approaches gently, jostles his shoulder a bit.]
