[ the sight of shaun's grin allows the corners of her mouth to twitch a little. she's going to keep her guard up just in case, but maybe shaun's right. maybe this event won't be as harmful as she had thought upon first glance. it's paintball. ]

That mean you're up for the task?

[ she lifts up her gun and makes a show of blowing imaginary smoke away from the barrel. ]

Are you kidding? [His grin widens and he raises his own gun.] I was born for this.

[He doesn't trust this place in the slightest, but he's been the next best thing to climbing the walls for days, trying to come up with something to do to work out his excess energy. A paintball obstacle course is just what the doctor ordered.

He shoots her a sidelong look, smirking.]

If you think you can keep up.

[And he runs for the wall.]

[ a laugh ]

All right. All right, Mason, I know a challenge when I hear one.

[ once they both express their enthusiasm and accept their fate, targets begin to crop up throughout the obstacle course. some of them have the initials I.W. plastered on their forehead. the other half of them have the initials S.M.

you see where i'm going with this. iris darts off right after him.
]

First one to take down all their targets wins. Name your stakes, not that that'll be necessary. [ she'll smoke 'im out. ]

Oh, bring it on, if you think you can. [He grins at her.] Loser announces their paintball inferiority to the world when things go back to normal.

And by loser I mean you.

We'll see.

[ iris sets off at a quick pace. there are four obstacle course walls, each one taller than the last. the first one is relatively short. iris tosses her paintball gun over it, and uses her palms to drive herself up and swing off to the other side.

then she's picking her gun back up and aiming for target numbah one yaaaaaas.

[Shaun is cheerfully keeping pace with her, and makes it over the first wall without any trouble before aiming his paintball gun at his own target.]

I wonder if there's a prize at the end of this. Because epic paintball plus prize would make this actually the best event ever.

Wonderland doesn't really hand out prizes. It must think the closets are our reward. [ in all honesty, they are impressive. there's little one can't acquire via the closets. iris just hates how benign the mansion appears to be, how it lulls them into a false sense of security — luxurious security at that — before it strikes.

speaking of striking, target number two is down.

I guess we'll have to come up with our own prizes. You're a good shot. [If he sounds impressed, it's because he is. Pre-rising journalism didn't actually require journalists to have any kind of marksmanship training, so he hadn't really been sure what to expect from Iris. Seeing that she can definitely handle herself, though? Kind of awesome, if his opinion counts for anything.

Also? Another one bites the dust.]
