...all of them? [She sighs, and waves to her side.] Just take the knight. You seem like a knight kind of guy. [A beat. She adds slowly:] That's the horse. It moves in an L shape and is the only piece that can jump over other pieces.

And now I want to know why knights move in L shapes and get to skip over other pieces. Is there history to that, or is it just because?

Oh my god I am turning into a nerd.

[He takes his place on the chessboard to her right, high fiving the piece whose place he's taking.]

Nothing wrong with being a nerd.

[She directs a pawn forward, which the other side meets. Chess stuff happens.]

Anyway, I don't really know the history. But bishops move diagonally, Rooks move in straight lines, I'm the queen and I can do either, and the king can only move one space at a time, but in any direction. Pawns can only move one space forward, except they capture pieces diagonally and on their first move they can go up two. If I get one to the back row, it becomes a queen. Land on a piece, you capture it.
adaptiveimmunities: (you sure about that?)

I knew... maybe half of that. So I think that I'll just... do what you tell me to do, if that's okay. Because otherwise we are never gonna get through this.
