[ being a sloth is hard work. he has the vague thought that from this moment onward, he'll never make fun of sid in ice age ever again. but then he wonders what the hell that is, and why there's ice, and then he's suddenly glad that this particular tree is nice and dry, and it's sort of warm in an uncomfortable yet comfortable way. ]
[ again: being a sloth is hard work. ]
[ barry-sloth eventually gains some traction along the tree. lengthening his arms, he pulls himself upward at a pace that's incredibly, frustratingly slow, but it feels fast to him. does sans-sloth feel a little dizzy when moving a bit too fast along the tree? their previous pace was nice, but also irritating, as those leaves are right at the top and barry's stomach grumbles. ]
[ making his way along the tree, barry-sloth reaches forward when a branch hangs low with some nice looking leaves on it. somehow, in some way, he breaks it off with his scissor-like claws, and he holds his arm down so sans-sloth can take the leaves whenever he's ready. ]
no subject
[Sans is considerably slower, but finally he makes it to the branches. Hanging upside down from these branches seems appropriate, and it also helps him reach the leaves a little better. Friend sloth offers him some leaves as he's crawling his way toward a good looking patch. Aww! How nice of him! He accepts the leaves and starts munching.]
[Yeah, these are good leaves.]
[Though, hmm. Wasn't there something else they were supposed to be doing? There was something other than leaves up here. A Mystery or something.]
no subject
[ it's more leaves. ]
[ and freedom. ]
[ but leaves are freedom, aren't they? ]
[ satisfied his friend's taken some leaves, barry-sloth decides to venture forth. it's within his entire makeup that he does so, the more stupid of the sloths, never quite taking what's before them right now as he believes in the impossible. he begins to move, albeit fast enough to still be slow, and makes his way toward the top of the tree. ]
[ and makes a noise of pleasure. there's more leaves, sans-sloth! and he's beginning to feel a little more clear-headed. his paw may be vibrating, or perhaps it's just the fact he's so hungry right now his entire body's doing it out of sheer impatience to eat more leaves. ]
no subject
[Friend sloth is climbing a bit higher, and it's mostly curiosity that makes Sans follow. Maybe there are better leaves up there? Or maybe it's that other thing--that freedom thing? Quite frankly he thinks he'd rather just find a nice branch to hang from and rest his bones. Wait--his bones? Hmmm.]
no subject
[ like phasing halfway through the tree. did his paw just disappear inside of it? when he pulls his arm back and his claw chips into the bark, he can't see his fur. it's a blur of soft grey with sparks of gold. ]
[ letting any leaves fall from his mouth rather unattractively, he makes a noise of surprise. then, he looks down at his friend-sloth, and finds that everything seems to be in crystal clear focus with him. maybe you shouldn't eat these leaves, bro. he starts making an audible fuss in an attempt to warn him. ]
no subject
[He feels like maybe he shouldn't eat these leaves anymore. They came up here for a reason, him and friend--Barry sloth. Barry sloth? Yeah. It's a thing called a name, and he has one too. He's Sans. He shifts his head slowly so he can look at his melting fur again.]
[Right, none of that is supposed to be there, is it? He's something else. He's not a sloth at all.]
[So...what does that mean? What now?]
no subject
[ barry, on the other hand, spits the leaves out. his claws are melting into long, bony fingers with flesh rather than fur over them. his grip on the bark is loosening, becoming as weak as his feet try to find a purchase that seems to abandon him immediately. his nose wrinkles as he tries to poke his tongue out, as if that mere action will get rid of the leaves that stick to the roof of his mouth. ]
[ his entire body's beginning to slowly lengthen, taking on his six foot frame, as his fur slowly shits to become skin. ]
— Yuck! [ he still looks like a sloth, albeit one that's currently undergoing some sort of magical treatment, but that's a very human voice. ] Saaaans!
no subject
[1...sloth life? No, no. 1 something. 1 HP.]
[Oh god he has organs he can feel them in there what the fuck.]
[Thankfully they're all starting to melt away into nothingness, but he can still feel it, all the weird extra bits that make up a living thing aside from its literal skeleton.]
[It's probably a bit horrifying to watch as he's midway through, looking like a sloth that's slowly dissolving in acid.]
oh my god.
[Oh hey, he can talk again. He grips the tree limb tighter.]
what the fuck.
no subject
Dude, are you okay?
[ it's a dumb question, but it's one that needs to be asked. barry's all long human limbs and five fingers and converse shoes, holding onto the tree as comfortably as he can manage in a situation built on their discomfort. he doesn't know where to put his feet, so he launches up slightly and hits his head against a branch. ] Ow! F — [ wrapping his arms around the trunk as best he can, he tries to place his feet on the branch below, realising it's not quite as sturdy. ]
no subject
[Once he's back to normal and trusts his own limbs, he grips the branch he's on as tight as he can.]
yeah. yeah, i'm fine. just, uh, higher than i'd like. heh.
[How did they even get up here? And why?]
what...was that? the--we were some kind of animal, right? i don't know my--whoa, careful.
[He winces as Barry cracks his head against a branch.]
careful, you're a lot bigger than you were a minute ago.
no subject
[ he much preferred being a sloth, if only because he wasn't so tall he'd smack his head and cause a small, dull ache to begin swelling inside his skull. he grips the branch and preoccupies himself with not overthinking by talking. ] Sloth. We were sloths. Like Sid from Ice Age, but hopefully cooler.
[ let it be canon sans was the cooler sloth. ]
[ disliking how the bark's rough against his fingers and his nails are blunt, barry grits his teeth and decides the only way to get down is to flash down. ] You know what helps when you're up really high? Closing your eyes. You should do that. It'll feel like you're on solid ground.
no subject
[He's gonna have to look up what a sloth is when this is all over. From what he understands right now they...are slow? And eat leaves? It's kind of a blur.]
nah. i'm good.
[The last thing he needs is to have his eyesockets closed when something else happens. Nor does he want to trick himself into thinking he's safe. Which, haha, that's ridiculous, he's never safe. There's no such thing.]
so...now what? build a treehouse?
no subject
We could, but we'd need a saw and ... stuff.
[ does barry allen know how to build a treehouse? ]
[ ... no. a wormhole, yes, however that won't help them right now. ]
[ glancing down, he realises that he's going to have to do what he was originally thinking. he doesn't know if sans is a competent and confident climber, but with the way he's still in the same position as before, barry thinks it's safe to surmise he isn't. ]
I think I have some leftover ... weirdness ... from being a sloth. [ #nailed it. ] I think I know how to get down. Just don't freak out, okay?
[ tapping into his power, he's enveloped in a golden thick kinetic energy. he's quick to unwrap himself from where he hangs, dropping down onto the ground to only circle the tree, leap back up, and pull sans free from where he hangs. ]
[ enjoy your bony little feet resting on solid ground, sans. barry stands beside him and pulls a leaf from his hair. ]
no subject
okay. just don't--
[And then Barry starts freaking glowing, and a split second later he's on the ground. And a split second after that, Sans is on the ground with him. It's a little like teleporting, only instead of a surge of magic it's a surge of energy and speed. It's kind of like being inside a lightning bolt.]
[Sans wobbles a bit.]
...what.
no subject
[ he looks at sans. he seems to have all his bones back, but he can't be too sure. ] Are you okay?
no subject
what was that? what did you do?
no subject
[ how many times has sans trusted him with something from home? without thought, sans had been honest with him whenever he asked a question. the only thing that can happen from this is that sans no longer speaks to him, and he no longer has someone to throw lady gaga lyrics at. ]
You can't ... I mean, you can freak out. If you want. You can do that. It's just ... I'm not like everyone else? I'm kind of fast. Super fast.
no subject
okay. so is it magic? didn't really feel like it.
no subject
[ he lifts his shoulder, face scrunching up in uncertainty. ] I guess? It's science, too. I kind of got hit by lightning and the particle accelerator explosion, which I guess messed with my cells, and now I can do … that. Run super fast. It's great, but it can be kind of boring at times since I do things really quickly and — [ breathe, barry. ] Sorry if it spooked you. I just didn't want you to be stuck in the tree.
no subject
so...you got hit by lightning and an exploding particle accelerator, and you're still alive.
[Holy shit. Determination really is a helluva drug.]
it's fine. wasn't too interested in staying in a tree for the rest of the event. been there, done that.
[There were zombies involved.]
but this is, uh...interesting. [He rubs at the back of his skull. This is genuinely fascinating from a scientific standpoint, just the idea that humans could theoretically acquire such abilities, and that those abilities involve the wholesale destruction of actual physics. It's...freaking neat, is what. But he's not a scientist. He doesn't know anything about science, or at least that's the picture he's painted of himself.]
[But like, just. The physics involved. Does he just accelerate so fast that no possible measuring device could capture it, or does he just instantaneously achieve Mach speeds? Shit, what about friction? How does he not set himself and everything around him on fire? What about air resistance? Water resistance? How fast can he go, anyway? Also what the hell kind of particle accelerator can cause something like this just by exploding? Maybe the Higgs Boson ended up being a lot more volatile than anyone expected.]
[You can't just ask questions like that if you're not supposed to be a scientist, though.]
[So Sans just grins.]
it's pretty cool, actually. heh. downright shocking.
no subject
Yeah? [ then he corrects himself, sounding more confident: ] Yeah. I guess. It's really complicated and a long story, but I survived after being in a coma for a while. I'm sorry if getting you down from the tree was a bit ... weird. My mom used to tell me to rip the bandaid right off instead of taking your time with it.
[ where sans was the tree. or the sloth? barry, thankfully, doesn't open his mouth to try and figure that tangled little web out. ]
And sorry for not telling you, especially after all the stuff you told me about the Underground. When people know about it, it's never good. I just didn't want you to be in trouble.
no subject
[It's a joke, mostly. All of that is Barry's business, after all. In the meantime, they've got this puzzle thing to solve...or maybe they already solved it, since there's a door on the opposite side of the room that wasn't there before.]
nah, i get it. trust me, i get needing to keep secrets.
[Boy does he ever.]
just so long as you didn't hurt yourself getting a skeleton out of a tree or anything. that'd be embarrassing for everyone.
no subject
[ he acknowledges sans is very biased towards skeletons, but so is barry allen. ]
[ he peers over toward the door that's suddenly appeared with a sigh. though he wishes to ignore it, he has a feeling that's not an option. it's appeared for a reason, and their little desert-garden has remained standing instead of falling away to show off the mansion hiding behind those walls. ] You think it's the end of this?
good heavens dat html tho
[Like, getting hurt saving a helpless kitten from a tree, or an innocent child, or whatever it is actually heroic people do.]
[He follows Barry's gaze and sort of shrugs and nods at the same time.]
only one way to find out, right?
only proof sans is too cool for html
Yeah. [ he lifts his hand to scratch at the back of his neck. ] We should go. Hopefully I'll see you on the other side.
lmfao that must be it
