Summary: The Red Queen has thrown a carnival for everyone!
The Story:


From Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 16, the gardens and grounds of the Mansion will be a sprawling a carnival. The masked, unspeaking vendors will be selling trinkets and running free game booths. Carnival rides, exhibits, and foods represent all of the various cultures of those currently residing in the Mansion.


Of particular note, and perhaps incongruously, everything is decorated with red hearts.

[Ishimaru blushes slightly, flustered and surprised by the sudden contact, but he meekly nods along.]

A-ah... Yes, of course! I have been thinking of trying out one of these rides... but which one? [Most of them seem noisy in some way.]

[ Monika looks around, sizing up the rides. Eventually, her eyes settle on the roller coaster. Perfect! ]

C'mon, let's go to this one! It'll be my first time!

[ Aaand she's tugging him along, not waiting for an answer. This is urgent! ]

[Ishimaru is tugged along indeed! As they move, he looks on uncertainly towards the dangerous-looking ride.]

It- it shall be my first time as well! But... are you sure...?

Positive! Trust me!

[ Soon enough, they're seated, and she specifically chooses the very back so she can keep a lookout for that damn bear. It's not until they start clack-clacking along and climbing higher that she feels safe enough to talk. ]

Look. I have to ask you an important question. Do you know someone named Monokuma?

[ With all these games to keep up with, and all the crazy timelines, she has to be sure of things. ]

[Ishimaru seats himself next to her and makes sure that he's properly secured. He still feels very antsy about this ride... but this might just be something that he has to experience! His nervousness only increases as the ride makes its climb.

That stress only doubles as Monika asks her question. He looks towards her with a mild panic.]

M-Monokuma?! Yes... yes, I know of him! Please be careful! That bear is not to be trusted!

[ OH GOD, they're getting closer to the top faster than she expected!

Monika pulls his hands into hers, staring into his eyes. ]

I-I know! He's a real...jerk! [ She almost said asshole, but she's trying to maintain her ladylike appearance. ] I want you to be careful!

[ ACK CLOSER. She begins to speak faster. ] Don't worry about me! I'll be fine! Just try to stay safe, okay?

[Whoa, that really is going fast! Ishimaru feels his heart racing too! Although it may help that his hands are now being held on top of the combination of the roller coaster's movements and his worrying over Monokuma.

Ishimaru speaks as fast as he can, looking away from their journey to face her and try to reassure her.]

I- I will be! I promise! But... I am more concerned about you! Please avoid him!!

[ She laughs weakly. ] Um. I'll do my best.

[ It's so tempting to tell him the truth, but there's a war in her mind. She wants to make the people she's supposed to be spying on for Teddy Ruxpin suffer, but not her dear Kiyo! Ugh, she feels like she's trapped in an anime!

They're nearly at the top. Monika squeezes his hands. ]

But I'd rather you avoided me instead!

Wh-what?! [Paying no attention to the ride, he keeps focusing on her with intense surprise.]

Why... why would I ever wish to avoid you?!

[ She opens her mouth to say more.

Out comes a scream.

Monika's suddenly let him go so she can cling onto the bar for dear life, now highly aware she's on a roller coaster. SHE IS IMMEDIATELY REGRETTING THIS. ]

Because! [ SCREECH! ] You! [ SHRIEK! ] Have to!!

[He wants to say a lot more!! But he doesn't get a chance to.

Because there they go!!

Now his eyes are firmly focused up ahead, and he grips onto the bar while screaming for dear life!! It feels like his life could come to an end at any second! How could this be fun?!]

HUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

[He leaves a trail of tears behind them!! But even still, he eventually manages to call out in response.]

[ This is terror. This is sheer terror. An abrupt turn makes her scream the loudest, because it totally seemed like they were about to go flying over the edge.

But as the ride continues...she's starting to laugh. And laugh some more.

This is fun!

Hesitantly at first, she lifts one hand from the bar. Then the other. Soon enough, she has both hands up above her head and she's having the time of her life. ]

Maaaake it possible!

[Ishimaru continues to be terrified as the roller coaster goes through its turns, still firmly gripping the safety rail.]

I apologiiiize, but I refuuuuse!! I would never wiiiish to avoid yoooouuuu!!

[ Oh, a loop! A loop! She's cackling at this point. Time for the real fun! ]

Then I'll have to avoid yoooo--

[ Okay, back to screaming. The loop is actually terrifying. ]

But whyyyyyyyyAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

[HE'S UPSIDE DOWN SOMEBODY SAVEHIM!!]

[ There's not much ride left at this point, but she's breathing heavily, at a loss for words.

Eventually, she squeaks out something, her hands firmly on the bar again. ]

It's better. This way.

[As things start to die down, he's left breathing heavily as well. And he looks at her, distraught as she speaks. Then he looks away with tears in his eyes.]

If... if you do not wish to associate with me... than I will accept that! I am sorry that I failed to be a worthy friend! Please... Just do your best to stay safe, Monika-kun!

[ Monika watches him sadly as they slow down. There's an interesting, twisting feeling in her chest. She doesn't know what it is or what might be causing it. ]

No, don't say that! You've been nothing but great to me! [ She glances away, taking the time to catch her breath for a moment. ] I want to see you. But it's best if I don't.

[ Who knows what that damn bear will try to get out of her. ]

I have been...? [He looks towards her with a confused frown. Now that the thrills of the roller coaster seem to be ending, he's left with just this confused and hurt feeling as he tries to make sense of Monika's words.]

I do not understand. How could not seeing each other be for the best? If we enjoy each other's company... and I wish to do what I can to keep you safe from Monokuma!

[ It's hard to look at him. She forces herself to, though, giving a small smile. ]

Because. This way...I can keep you safe, Kiyo.

[He blinks and blushes slightly as he looks at her, still not sure what to make of things.]

Me? [A beat.] But, then... Who would take care of you?

[ Monika's quiet as the cars creak to a stop. Her heart's beating faster. It's an amazing feeling.

Her smile widens and she places one of her hands on his. ]

You don't have to take care of me. I don't deserve it.

[Even though the ride's stopping, he doesn't want to get up. He doesn't want to leave this ride when it also means leaving Monika behind. Ishimaru feels warmth as her hand rests on his, and he glances up at her, once again looking aghast at what she's aid.]

Please... do not say such things, Monika-kun! You are a good person. [He hasn't seen any reason to doubt her - or he doesn't want to see any reason.] Of... of course you are deserving of care!

[ Unable to help it, she laughs. ] Maybe. Maybe not!

[ Still chuckling, she adds her other hand and gives his a squeeze. ] The less you know about me, the better~

[The squeeze is comforting... but beyond that he's left baffled and at a loss of words.]
