Summary: It's your chance do your dance
The Story: After the culture festival wraps up on Wednesday afternoon, all students are invited to a dance in the gymnasium! There are snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic, of course!), as well as cheesy paper decorations made by the student council members.

She rolls her eyes at the mom comment, about ready to go back inside when she hears his question.

"Yeah, 2-1. You're... a third year?"

Bela isn't being very subtle about her attempts at playing matchmaker, which leaves Evelyn feeling a little standoffish as she tries not to smile too wide.

"Small-talk isn't my forte, Bela," Evelyn reminds her cheekily, smiling into her cup. "Boys aren't usually excited by the prospect of conversing about historical events."

Or dead people. She learned that the hard way the other day.

[He looks a mite intimidating to others, which is reassuring in that she probably won't be bothered or bullied in the upcoming week, but Johnny is a decent fellow. Evelyn almost snorts at his question, thoroughly unladylike.]

No, I didn't come with anyone.

[No one asked, but Evelyn isn't particularly bothered by that.]

But apparently, doing that isn't in vogue right now.

[ In this reality, in this world Wonderland has created, Tommy's life has been different. As far as he remembers he's never been the odd one out, sitting on the sidelines because kids who whisper rumors don't realize how pervasive they become. He's had a decent life, with a loving mom and his twin at his side. The thing is, though, that Wonderland doesn't change who they are as people, only what they remember at the moment. He doesn't, presently, know why he doesn't just let her be, but he won't. He leans back in the chair he's stolen, stretching his legs out and shrugging. ]

Well that's no fun. You can people-watch eve better from the inside, trust me. It's like going to a zoo versus jumping head-long into the wild.

[Hannibal is, quite possibly, the best-dressed student that Evelyn knows, although he only gets the chance to show off outside of school and in social gatherings.]

...well, I'm not saying the current arrangement is any good.

[It's something heinously awful that she can't identify. Evelyn listens to Classical music, opera, and the occasional jazz set.]

No accounting for taste.

"Don't leave me hanging."

He's not serious. He trusts her. She wouldn't have wanted to go out and wouldn't have agreed to hit the dance floor if she wasn't feeling up to dancing. Besides, girls love that kind of stuff, don't they? Being able to let go and showing off themselves and their dates; all that good stuff. It takes him a few minutes to get into the song and it's obvious he's trying to get a feel for it. It's a faster paced one, which is good. It works for them and where they are with each other, for a first date. First dates are supposed to be light and fun, and laughable. Matt is glad he has rhythm and he isn't stiff-kneed. He's not the best dancer but he can keep up, so he starts them off with a couple simple steps, just moving to it so she can step in, and they can go from there. He's been to house parties and an underground event or two by invitation, to photograph the music artists and guests. Thankfully, it's not his first opportunity to dance.

Thrilled he even got this far, Athos beams wide enough to light up the dark corner of the room they're in before offering her the arm of a gentleman escort.

"So how's tricks?"

Oh. [ at the punch being fine. eh! she trusts Natasha's judgment better than her own most of the time, so, well. carry on. she takes another sip. ] Oh, yeah actually, a lot of fun. Nothing beats having a reason to dance around with all your friends, right?

How about you?

[ eheheh, James is seriously too easy sometimes ]

But I've already got a whole list. Let me see if I can find it..

[ she pretends to pat down her dress, pulls out an invisible sheet of paper ]

Oh! Here we are. Let's see, let's see. [ pretends to skim down the list ] Oh wait! That's right. Nope, no boys are actually lining up to dance with me, I forgot. [ but she's not throwing herself a pity party, it's just- ] You've got nothing to worry about, big bro. Promise.

"I wouldn't dream of it."

[She watches him with a smile before finally joining in. This is exactly what she wanted for tonight - something light and playful - nothing too serious. It was her first dance with a date and she couldn't be more thrilled.

She takes the opening to step in closer, letting her hips move to the music. She's fairly certain he can hear her heart pounding, more than happy to let him take the lead.]

Hazel, Hazel. Oh! Hazel. Yeah, probably. That makes sense. I'm Rachel Elizabeth Dare. It's great to meet you. [ full names, always. ] -- I'm not keeping you from somebody, am I? [ two cups.. ] They should just come over here, I think. Mhm.

[johnnyblake]

[ Well, who can complain about a tailored suit when the guy wearing it is tossing out compliments like that? Johnny runs a hand down the front of his own clothes and offers Loki a rueful look. ]

Shit, if I could, I'd dress like that every day. Custom's the way to go, 'specially on someone else's dime. [ He leans in a bit and lowers his voice. ] —and then you can sell last year's look when you're done with it and call it your natural entrepreneurial spirit if anyone calls you on it.

She takes the arm with a small chuckle, finding it adorable.

"You should check out the globe in the lab sometime soon. It got a makeover. I think it makes it look a million times better."

[incomingsass]

"Good sir, I have no idea what you're talking about." Despite the mischievous glint in her eyes.

She watches him, brows furrowing in concentration to not laugh. Not everyone's as outgoing as she can be, moments like these that reminding her of that.

"Awww... You have a crush?" Her tone is genuine as she crosses to him and guides him to a bench. The last thing she needed to deal with was him passing out and hitting his head.

"Take a deep breath and tell me all about it. What's her name? What year is she? What did she say back?"

[johnnyblake]

[ He'll take it. And he'll take her hand, too, leading her a little closer to center-stage because that's probably where they both belong, let's be real: Brittany for her abilities and Blake because he's awesome. ]

Hit me with your best shot~

[johnnyblake]

[ He makes a pfft noise as he settles on the dance floor, opting for a proximity chaste enough to be suitable for a school function. There's an opportunity for that to change, of course, but he probably wouldn't take that risk with Evelyn. ]

Who gives a shit 'bout that? It's computers an' executives decidin' what's "in vogue," not real people like us. Why should we even care?

[ He lifts his chin. ] Pretty sure bein' your own date's the hottest choice ever. That's why I didn't go askin' no one. And you're like... ten-times hotter'n me.

[strategisch]

"Hm?"

Armin gives Scott a quick up-and-down, and guesses that it's okay to chat with him-- probably an underclassman, just being friendly. He hides behind his punch cup a little when he replies.

"Ah, no... I'm just here to support my friend; he's been practicing all week," Armin gestures to Eren and Integra on the dance floor, "and I don't really know any girls. You?"

You're not keeping me. [ Nico leans back a bit, head tilting enough to see Percy -- he's chatting up someone from the swim team; not a surprise at all. ] It's nice to meet you as well, Rachel Elizabeth Dare.

[ it takes a few tries before he's able to fall in step with Percy. at first he steps wrong, narrowly misses Percy's foot, then tries to move in the opposite direction -- it's a right mess at first. but he focuses on Percy instead, rather than where his feet are going, watches as he is (pretty obviously) mentally counting out the steps. it's endearing and sweet and his heart beats just a little faster. ] I can try to be.

You're doing a good job so far.

[ of not spilling punch, that is. Nico's sure he has a cap on his clumsy tonight, too.

Nico gestures his head back over his shoulder to vaguely indicate Percy's location. ]

If by "lost" you mean "lost to the swim team", then yes.

It's alright, we're old friends.

[ Nico uses his free hand to take another drink from his punch cup that is becoming woefully empty. he's sure that someone has spiked it by now; the warmth spreading through him is likely thanks to that. ]

But you're having a good time?

Scott looked out to the floor, spying the pair as Armin pointed them out. They were both lovely, but so fierce-looking. Well, Integra looked a little intimidating, anyway.

"That's pretty cool! Moral support, right?" He smiled, warm and friendly. "I don't really know many either. I'm here with my friend, but he's had fewer lessons..." Scott motioned to Stiles as he spazzed about. "Yeah, he's... Trying." He chuckled. "So, what year are you in? I'm kinda new so I don't know everyone yet."

Michael raises an eyebrow. It's clear he noticed the lisp, though he doesn't comment on it.

"Or what?"

Go ahead. Threaten him. He dares you.

"Ezra seems like a nice boy, if inexplicably fond of you. It would be a shame if he took the fall for one of your mistakes; try not to let that happen, hm?"

"Skipping class is skipping class."

Michael's black and white view of the world rears its head. What good could possibly come from skipping lessons, though? Socializing wasn't a good excuse; that could be done after school hours, or during designated activities just like one they were at now.

"I hope you take your education more seriously than he does. It would be unfortunate if his bad habits rubbed off on a good student."

[He had to hold himself back from laughing when he realized she actually meant that, she wasn't just being modest. He'd think she'd never seen herself in a mirror, but... it wasn't even just that. It was the way she carried herself around, how all the light seemed to focus on her when she walked in.

Or maybe that was just him.]

You know me? [He suggested, kind of lamely.] I mean, I guess that kind of enters into 'barely', but- [He shrugs.] I'm just babbling.
