+ The Dance +

Summary: It's your chance do your dance
The Story: After the culture festival wraps up on Wednesday afternoon, all students are invited to a dance in the gymnasium! There are snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic, of course!), as well as cheesy paper decorations made by the student council members.

"Yes, that's him." He smiles warmly, clearly a boy in love. "He's absolutely lovely, even if he's a bit tardy."

Clearly in love to any audience but Michael. He's met Crowley before. He doesn't like him, and every subsequent meeting has only made him like him even less. Ezra can't possibly be enamored with someone like that. (Or is his lack of taste in clothes indicative of a serious lack of taste in friends, as well?)

"The Anthony Crowley who skips class to smoke?" he asks. There's only one Anthony Crowley at their school, but Michael feels the need to confirm that they're talking about the same student. Externally, the two have so little in common; he can't picture them being friends.

He honestly doesn't care what you think of him Michael. You clearly don't know him at all. Ezra, on the other hand, has grown up with Anthony and knows him better than anyone. He knows that soft heart underneath the "bad boy" surface.

"He usually skips class to come visit me in the library." And then the two of them go outside for a smoke break.

"Skipping class is skipping class."

Michael's black and white view of the world rears its head. What good could possibly come from skipping lessons, though? Socializing wasn't a good excuse; that could be done after school hours, or during designated activities just like one they were at now.

"I hope you take your education more seriously than he does. It would be unfortunate if his bad habits rubbed off on a good student."

"I agree and I try to convince him to go back..."

But then Michael drops that condescending comment and Ezra sees white hot rage building inside himself. "I am on the Dean's List, Michael. And I'm certain you are unaware of this, but even if Anthony lacks in attendance discipline, his grades are good and always have been.

"Perhaps you should actually get to know a student instead of instantly deeming them unworthy and make yourself look like a fool with baseless accusations."

"Mind the name calling, junior."

He's not visibly raging, but the remaining traces of goodwill are definitely gone from both his voice and his face. An icy sort of irritation has replaced them; if Ezra knew Lucifer, he'd recognize the look instantly. Without a doubt, he spends entirely too much time in his brother's presence.

"Good grades don't make a good student - or a good friend, for that matter. I won't bother to argue with you, though. I think his non-presence speaks for itself."

"I didn't call you a name, just that you look like a fool jumping to conclusions about people like that." Oh, he recognizes the look. He has his own fire burning brightly behind his eyes.

"Being a little late does not make him a bad friend. Now I don't know what you're expecting from me, but if it's to try and convince me away from Anthony, I guarantee you it will never work."

"Calling someone a fool is no compliment," Michael points out. It's equivalent to an insult, from his perspective.

"And no, I don't expect anything. If you insist on learning your lesson the hard way that's your prerogative. You might start by looking outside; he wouldn't be the only one getting up to something under the bleachers."

But hey, at least he won't be smoking again any time soon.

"I didn't say you are one, just that you look like one," he points out in kind. He will argue semantics all day if need be. "It's not the same."

Dammit Mike, Aziraphale smokes those too! "Excuse me? What are you implying?"

Get your boyfriend to hide his cigarettes a little better, then - or better yet, convince him not to bring them onto school grounds. Outside of school Michael might glare but it's not his business to discipline anyone who isn't breaking school rules.

Michael almost points out that looking like a fool is no compliment either, but he settles for a snide:

"Simply that he looks like the type to hang out under the bleachers."

That should get his point across.

"Either way - enjoy the rest of the dance." It's spoken with little sincerity, and Michael moves off to harass some other poor soul about their choice of dress.
