James Rogers: 7th floor, room 18
There are others gathered around. A young black boy, crouches, one hand on the ground, watching intently. A tall blonde girl, her hair in two warrior braids leans on her sword stuck in the ground. And finally a little boy with black hair seems to be all but buzzing around the prominent pair in the middle. An older man with white hair kneels down next to a younger looking James, a metal cylinder in his hand.
He slips the cylinder on James's arm and starts telling him all the things the "generator" can do. James is staring at it and flexes his hand and a huge shield - big enough for him to hide behind - springs up in between the pair. Everyone starts laughing.

Then came the people. Faces she didn't recognize, but whom James seemed to know and trust. His was the only one she did, and though instincts were to call out to him...alert him to her presence...she held back. Unsure if this was a training session or not, and if so, if she would be more of a hindrance by distracting him.
But then...everyone started to laugh. Guards down, aura of frivolity up, and she relaxed.
"What's so funny?"
no subject
"My family. We're laughing because Tony was explaining everything the shield generator could do." He grins. "Except he forgot to tell me how to turn it on. So when I pushed the button it blew up in our faces." He shrugs. "Tony sometimes forgot things like that."
no subject
She looked around shyly at each of the new faces, but with a warm smile and wave. There was....had there been new arrivals recently? Either way, James was reunited with the people he'd most wanted to see, and that was good for him.
"Shouldn't that be the first thing you learned how to do?"
no subject
But this? This is good enough for now.
None of the others wave back. He doesn't understand it.
"Usually," he admits. "But Tony sometimes got excited about the other stuff, that things like turning it on, just weren't important."
no subject
Lingering insecurities long since passed momentarily appeared in her thoughts. A lifetime of either being ignored or mocked...but, no, James' family wouldn't be like that, would they? If they were ignoring her, there must have been a good reason.
"They know I'm here, right? Nobody's using some sort of invisibility shield on me for laughs?"
no subject
He sighs. "No one can use invisibility shields." He's serious. Those are a thing.

In fact, she believed him so much, Hazel closed her eyes for a fleeting moment. Concentrating. She hadn't sensed it once since arriving in Wonderland...hadn't seen any evidence before now...but maybe...
"No, no Mist." she murmured to herself, before opening her eyes again and turning to James sheepishly. "But even if it is...this is still a good thing, right? I mean...you get to see them again. Even if it's just--"
But, of course, her mind had already begun to wander. Taking into account every factor of the situation, the possibilities, and what this could potentially mean for her. She glanced back--just for a moment, but with a noticeable flash in her eyes.
Does that mean...if I go back...Frank...or even Sammy...
Part of her was afraid to even look.
no subject
"What's Mist?" It seems important to her. "What's wrong?" He worries about Hazel sometimes. He wonders what's going on.
no subject
"Hmm?" She turned back. A second later, and the glassiness faded. She registered the question. "Oh. No! Nothing's wrong. I was just...thinking."
But if it's just a Dream, do I even want to see them? Knowing they'll just leave again.
Frank, maybe, but she was more worried it would be Sammy. Just when she was finally over him.
"The Mist...it's this presence that's in the air. It hides things we don't want the rest of the world to see. Most people can't control it." Most people. "It happens automatically."
no subject
"It sounds like something that some people back home could do." He waves at his family. "None of us, but some of the other mutants on the planet could, before Ultron wiped them out."
no subject
"I don't...think so? It's...more like magic. An illusion. Very few of us have the ability to sense it, it's so natural. There's no real way to tell unless you know what to look for."
