"Yeah, that's true. And a few more who wanted to learn so i think we can manage a decent game. We'd have to roll up new characters anyway." Paula would go nuts if she found out they'd carried on without her.

His smile fades at the mention of Jack and Eugene, becoming unusually solemn. "They sailed away, across the ocean and went into the West." He snorts shaking his head. "Or like... south I guess. They joined up with this author on her boat and they went to... to Alderney. Which is like... I think it's near France. Might as well be the moon these days. And things have been so busy that... I'll miss them."

"At least zombies should have difficulty swimming."

If they were able to have a good supply of food getting a boat to somewhere else could possibly be a great survival idea, especially if the virus hadn't been able to leave the country.

"I'm sure they miss you too. Maybe you'll find out when they turn up."

"You'd think that. You really would." Sam has seen some awful stuff, and bloated, rotting zombies on the ocean floor is... not even the worst to be honest.

He smiled, glancing back at them in the dream image thing. "Yeah, maybe. I hope so. It's gonna be weird without them. Too quiet."

She could understand that. There had been a lot of people here tnat Lydia had known and most of them were now gone. It was definitely quieter without them there, especially when some you might never see again. Not at home.

"What were they like? And noisy doesn't count."

"Really grossly in love," Sam replied, but he was grinning as he said it. "Massive dorks, and really funny. Kind of annoying at times I guess, but they were always good at cheering people up. Sometimes you really need a stupid peppy pop song and two idiots arguing over who sang it. It makes everything feel sort of... normal."

"It would take your mind off what was happening even just for a few minutes."

But even after that you would have the memory of the good thing too, something to be able to think about then. Memories were powerful, especially good ones. It was something everyone needed no matter what was happening.

"Yeah. That's important. It was all important." And he might never hear from them again. Or maybe they'd come back one day, when things were a bit quieter. He could believe that, yeah.

"Is it just Maxine here from your world?" It was the only person here that Lydia had heard Sam talk about, anyway, although Lydia didn't always talk about the people in Wonderland from her home.

"No," Sam says, hesitating for a moment before he points out Simon, sitting at the end of the table with Janine. "That's Simon. He's here too."

Lydia takes another quiet look down the table, lingering on Simon as she thinks, seeing if she can place him. She's talked to a Simon once - danced with one at the high school event but he'd definitely looked a little different then. Most people had - they'd been teenagers at that point.

"I might have met him." But she couldn't be sure - Simon wasn't exactly an uncommon name, he could have been a different Simon.

"Two is good. Safe and friends." It would certainly be a lot different if you were the only person rom your world in Wonderland Maybe they were lucky to have people with them.

"He does get around," Sam replies, a touch of sourness to his voice. Once it might have been said more in good humour, but now... well, who knows who he's been talking to?

"Yeah. I'm lucky I guess. I wouldn't want to be stuck here on my own." He'd made friends, but sometimes you needed someone who had shared experiences with you. "Have- have you got anyone here?"

"There's three." Which was a sad and small number compared to how many people from home had been there at one point. If the floors hadn't been seemingly endless they probably could have taken up an entire floor.

"People from my home go more than they come." And no one had arrived in a long time, not since Malia had arrived. Was the way from their home blocked or were they no longer popular picks?
voiceinthedark: (Taken Aback)

[personal profile] voiceinthedark 2015-03-11 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Three here too. Guess we're matched." He would have loved to have had more people from Abel here too, and Veronica and even Nadia. He would have liked them all to be here alongside him.

"I'm sorry. I mean, not necessarily that they're not being brought here, but that they're not here for you."
intelligently: (sɪxᴛʏ ғᴏᴜʀ)

[personal profile] intelligently 2015-03-13 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes I'm glad that they're not." Whilst she could agree that mostly Wonderland wasn't that bad there were still things that happened here unrelated to the events - some things which were a lot more terrible than anything that Wonderland ever did. They'd never have to know what happened to her, and when they left they wouldn't remember all that bad anyway.

"But it's not the same without them around. Not when you're used to it."
voiceinthedark: (Very Bad Things)

[personal profile] voiceinthedark 2015-03-16 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Sam says quietly. "I can understand that." It wasn't the same for him, but some stuff here was still disturbing as hell. He didn't blame people for not wanting their friends to be here to see them.

"I know. I'm used to be surrounded by people every day. You just get used to a certain rhythm of things I guess."
