There's a thoughtful hum as Lydia looks around the scene again, watching it play out for a few moments as she thinks about it. They're in a war, Lydia knows that just from knowing when Steve and Bucky were (originally) from, although the decor of the place is a little bit of a giveaway too. Steve is their leader, they're behind him - friends and soldiers. Lydia understands that part, but it's not the part she's most curious about.

She turns as the room changes to the part of Steve and Bucky talking alone, until the woman walks along. Bucky's words to the empty Steve space obviously had some meaning too. A kid from Brooklyn versus who Steve was now. Captain America. What had changed there?

"What did Bucky mean? About who he was following?" Lydia had seen Steve when he'd been smaller - not just in body size but in height too. He'd been an adult at his shorter height, so it wasn't just growing. Working out couldn't do that. She'd never asked what had happened, but she hadn't thought much about it to think there was anything strange going on there.

The question was understandable. Steve could see how the meaning wouldn't be entirely clear to someone who didn't know the full scope of his history with Bucky. Steve didn't think he had ever explained the serum in full detail to Lydia, mainly because she hadn't asked, even though they had originally met when he'd been his previous self, too short and too thin and wracked with illnesses.

"Bucky knew me before I got the serum that made me..." He glanced down at himself, and then gestured to his own chest, so broad that his shirt hugged him in ways that earned a lot of lingering glances. "Like this. Before anyone cared who I was. Before I became Captain America." Sometimes it still sounded weird, that title coming off of his own tongue.

"So that's the point he was making. He was following me because I was Steve, instead of Cap." It was a sentiment that Steve still appreciated now. Peggy and Bucky were the only people who had known him before the serum made him into someone worth the world's notice, and it was why they held a special place even in his memories, and why they both featured in this one.

"The serum didn't make the person." Which was the most obvious thing. Every time that Lydia had spoken to Steve, no matter what size he'd been, he'd had the same mind about him. He'd always been kind and had wanted to help people - that had even been the same when they'd had no memories in Storybrooke. No memories of their real lives, anyway.

"Has Bucky seen this?" Or rather had he been to this memory since returning - since it had appeared in this room. It might not still mean the same thing - seeing something and understanding it was a lot different to feeling it as he had then, but it could be something good. It was definitely something good to know about Steve.

"The serum takes what's already there and enhances it," Steve clarified. It wasn't as if he was bragging, either. Those were simply the facts as they had been presented to him before he agreed to the process. As it turned out, Erskine had been right to pick him. Or at least, it hadn't been a complete disaster, and everyone had been pretty thrilled about the outcome, Steve included. The serum changed his life, that was no exaggeration.

At Lydia's question, Steve nodded. "Yeah, I showed him." Bucky had requested to see it, in fact. He had to be desperate for any spare memory that Wonderland might grant him, and here one was, in full moving color. "I think it was good for him to see." Maybe it had helped Bucky reconcile who he was now with who he'd been, a little more.

"It gave him something he could trust. More than just your word." And whilst Lydia finds Steve's word very trustworthy it is a little different when you've had trauma happen - when you've had happen to you what Bucky has. She already imagines that things could be confusing, so having something solid - actual fact and evidence would likely be more helpful than just being told a story.

"He'll be okay." It could just be a hope but it's something that Lydia believes. In Wonderland he has time to heal - time when time is actually stopped. They might go home and have to go through it all again with not being able to remember but here things are different. Worries of home don't exist here, things can be different.

Bucky will be okay. He has people to help, and a lot of time to re-find himself. Or make a new Bucky.

While Steve has never gotten the sensation that Bucky doesn't trust him at his word, that's not the point. It's still an entirely different experience to see a memory playing out in living color like this, compared to the stories that Steve tells him. Both have their merits, maybe, but either way Steve is actually glad for this opportunity. It's one of the few decent things that Wonderland has done.

It also makes him wonder if he should sketch out a few memories for Bucky sometime, but he can think more on that later.

"He will," he agrees. Steve's never had any doubt that Bucky is strong enough to overcome what HYDRA did to him, but it's still good to see solid proof of that now, over the months that he's been back.

By then the memory has looped a few times, and so Steve starts toward the door, figuring that Lydia will either follow or speak up if there's something else she wants to ask or see.

Lydia gave a final look around the room before following Steve closer to the door. She's seen the memory enough, and whilst he'd not seemed to mind too much that she'd accidentally seen it, even letting her ask a question, Lydia doesn't want to intrude too much on it. Memories are still a private thing unless you choose to share them, and minus having invited Steve to look at her memory she isn't too certain that she'd want anyone to just stumble on it like she had on his.

"I'll try and make sure that I'm there when you come by." Partly to see his reaction, to see what he thought, but also to answer any questions that he had. Lydia didn't doubt that there would be some.

"And thanks. For explaining." Or not being mad. Or even for understanding what she'd told him - for not being outrightly horrified by it. Her world was... monstrous to some

Even if Lydia has already given Steve a preview of what to expect from her room, that doesn't mean that he intends to go there when she isn't present. "If I stop by and you're not there, I'll send you a text." They could head over there now, but Steve should check in on a few of his friends and make sure that they're handling a walk down memory lane without too much distress.

There's no need for Lydia to thank him, and so Steve shakes his head before he sets a hand lightly on her shoulder. "Any time." It's a memory he doesn't mind sharing, and has maybe given Lydia more insight into the kind of person that he is. Hers sounds like it'll be pretty revealing too, but only time will tell.

"I'll see you soon," he says as he shuts the door tight behind him, so that no one else is tempted to just wander in when he isn't there.
