She just smirks at that, unrepentant in her agreement that the girl has been spared much of her father’s appearance. Of course the girl could still master Klaus’ crooked grin, and heaven help anyone who comes across her if she does. Never mind the fact that her parents are hybrids, her family the Original vampires: that smile on this little face could topple armies.

But those powerful connections make Klaus’ next assertion a given, although there is a truth in them that Cami hasn’t fully realized until that moment. Her first conversation with Kol he’d pointed out her advisor, named him as a witch and warned her to be wary. That had been enough to make the boy, then going by Kaleb, suspect. But now that she knows the truth, her smile fades, and she lets out a sigh as she puts it together. “My advisor. That’s Finn, isn’t it?”

There really had been some truth woven in all the lies.

But Klaus’s mind drifts to a different place; she can practically see the wheels turning in his head, an endless and useless motion given their predicament. “She is safe, Klaus. And you, Hayley, Rebekah, Elijah—all of you will do what you have to in order to keep her that way.”

Of that, Cami has no doubt. The trouble lies in just what falls under that vague heading of what must be done, particularly when defined by an ancient family of vampires.

The fact that he's unable to do much about protecting his daughter from here has been a point of contention since his arrival. A part of him refuses to believe it, calling back to countless years he's been able to do the impossible. What's one more thing?

"We will." He gives a short nod at this, knowing that his family would do whatever it takes to keep her safe. However, their shortcomings may also lead to Hope's downfall, and he can't have that. There's nobody he trusts implicitly with his daughter's safety, other than himself, because Klaus knows he is willing to do whatever it takes.

None of this is said to Cami, however. It boils in the back of his mind, a black tar that never truly leaves him, no matter what changes he may have made to his life. There are few things he would fight for, but when he does, he will do anything to fight for it, questionable or not.

"Yes, apparently Finn has taken over the body of your advisor." Which Klaus knows is a way to get to him personally. Finn's got plenty of cause to be upset with him, not that Klaus really cares all that much. He's never been fond of his eldest brother. He'd been a treacherous child, and turned into such a bore he just left him in a coffin for nine centuries. "Honestly, I'm surprised he's been able to pull off pretending to be someone else. I've never credited Finn with an overabundance of creativity."
