Summary: The Summerween Trickster has made his decree - Trick or treat...or die! This is a mingle log for Trick-or-Treating!
The Story:



On the morning of the 24th, everyone will find that the mansion was inexplicably decorated for Halloween...sort of. The idea behind the decorations is mostly the same, except that every jack-o-lantern is made out of a watermelon instead of a pumpkin. No, this is SUMMERWEEN.

For the first day it will be harmless enough, just a change in décor and a little spooky summer fun. However, by the second day there will be sightings of the Summerween Trickster, a creepy fellow made entirely out of unpopular loser candy, and he is not happy. In the entrance hall, there will be a giant jack-o-melon container with a counter and a count-down clock ticking away to the end of the event.

Your job, Wonderland, is to trick-or-treat for your lives. You have until the end of the event to deliver one million pieces of candy to the jack-o-melon before the end of the event, to appease the Summerween Trickster.

What was that? You'll just sit this out and wait for the event to end? I wouldn't do that if I were you. You see, the Summerween Trickster could be lurking around any corner. If he catches someone not fully embracing the spirit of Summerween (refusing to trick or treat, not wearing a costume, etc), they will not survive the experience. The Trickster will kill them and swallow them whole, making them part of his horrible loser candy body.

York chuckles at that. "Smart guy. Which is different from a wise guy. Good thing for you."

He sits down on the edge of the bed.

"I haven't done it in years either. But all you gotta do is think of a costume and open a closet and it'll be there waiting, though. Easy peasy."

[beforeblue]

"I'll leave that title for you, thanks." It's easy. He'd expected it to be harder to talk like this, but it's like nothing has changed. And why should it have? Time has passed for him, but none of the others have been here.

"I'll have a look and see what it comes up with. It can be kind of temperamental."

It's easy for York to fall into that easy banter with Wash. Wash doesn't show any signs that he's suffering from whatever happened to him after his AI was implanted, and he knows for Wash it hasn't been as long after the fall of the Project as it's been for him. Maybe at some point he'll inquire more personally, but for now, with all the nonsense going on, this is easier.

In any case, he chuckles at Wash's rejoinder. "Yeah, it took a few tries for me to get what I wanted, but I was persistent." He stands, goes over to the closet, and opens it—to reveal a full ballet costume, complete with toe shoes and tutu. "Here, this'd be a good look," he says.

He's definitely easier to deal with than Carolina. Carolina who's come back strange and changed in ways that he can't really figure out yet. He's been avoiding her. Doesn't want to face her. Doesn't want to face a lot of things.

He follows York as he crosses the room, eyes widening a little at the sight of the other costumes in the closet. He eyes the ballet costume for a moment before shaking his head. "Nah. Have to shave your legs and that's not something I'm willing to do."

York laughs and closes the closet. "All right, this time you think of something and open it again. No getting out of it now." He lets go of the doorknob and leans back against the wall, crossing his arms and setting one foot on the baseboard.

Wash rolls his eyes but pushes himself up off the bed and heads over to the closet. He rests his hand on the door handle, trying to decide what he actually wants to wear. Costumes. Costumes. He was sure there were loads of things he'd've liked to have dressed up as as a kid. But now? His mind is blank.

"I don't know. I can't think."

[howkickassiam]

"You could always be my sidekick. Or a cat. A sidekick cat." He laughs. "A cape and kitty ears. That would work."

[beforeblue]

"A sidecat," Wash says, grinning at him. "Except I'm not the sidekick. I think we're both Carolina's sidekicks honestly."

[howkickassiam]

"I can live with that," he says with a chuckle. "Wouldn't even mind if she actually kicked me in the side." Well, at least, not if she didn't mean it.

[beforeblue]

"So just offer to spar with her and I'm sure you'll get your wish," Wash replies and he can't help but smirk at York for that.

[howkickassiam]

"Yeah," York says, pausing for a second in thought. That doesn't last long before he ribs Wash and gestures toward the closet. "So how about it, my man? Moment of truth."

[beforeblue]

Wash rolls his eyes but grabs hold of the closet handle, thinking about halloween costumes as he pulls it open. He peers inside. There's definitely something there. It looks like an armour undersuit except...

He pulls it out and stares. "I think it took the idea of a cat costume a bit too literally."

[howkickassiam]

York gives an impressed whistle. "Sharp look, man. I like it. Put it on—I bet it fits like it was made for you."

[beforeblue]

"I think I need to figure out different underwear than my boxers," he says dubiously. It looks very tight. Normally there is armour. Armour he can deal with.

[howkickassiam]

"I don't have any thongs you can borrow," York says with a slight snicker. That's really the only thing Wash can do if he's worried about his underwear showing with this costume.

[beforeblue]

Wash grimaces. "I could get one from the closet, I guess," he says dubiously. He doesn't want to look stupid.

[howkickassiam]

"Do it," York says. "Go on, man. You know it'll bug you if you don't."

Plus this will give him something to tease Wash about all afternoon.

[beforeblue]

"You're just gonna love that, aren't you?" he asks. He knows York too well to be fooled!

[howkickassiam]

"Who, me?" York says, with faux innocence. "I wouldn't care one way or the other, man." He snickers a little, though, and goes over to open the closet himself. The thong he removes from the closet actually rather matches the costume Wash had removed from it—it's black, anyway. The metal rivets might put it in a different kind of style, though.

[beforeblue]

Wash rolls his eyes and sits back on the bed with a snort. Like he believes that.

He eyes the thing that York pulls out of the closet. It's black. And leather. And why does it have metal studs on it? "That is just a sign of your depraved mind."

[howkickassiam]

"You might as well do it in style, Wash," York says, but he's laughing as he tosses it in Wash's lap.

[beforeblue]

"Style. Yes, I've always wanted to fit in with the style of a sleazy dockside sex club," he grumbles.

[howkickassiam]

"Nobody's going to see your thong," York says. "They're just going to see what a smooth ass you have under your costume."

[beforeblue]

Wash glares at him, but he is right. Why does he have to be right? "Yeah well, we'll see. Maybe I'll find something else. Less revealing."

[howkickassiam]

"What, are you kidding? That costume is perfect for you." He nudges Wash's knee with his. "Come on, Wash, don't be uptight. I'll take some pictures for posterity, it'll be great." He grins for a second, then adds, "I mean in the costume, not the thong."
