MOVIE NIGHT | dated to Tuesday afternoon
Charlie knows she was slacking off. Well, "moping" was more accurate: after Dean and Sam mysteriously vanished, she wasn't in much of a mood to do anything. After all, it seemed like even they couldn't do anything about whatever had kidnapped everyone. So she'd done what any reasonable nerd would do: gotten her closet to give her all the video games she never had time to play, and holed up in her room.
By the end of the week, at least, she was sick and tired of her self-imposed isolation (and Mass Effect, gasp), and with Dean's return? Well, it was something, at least. So she'd finally printed out flyers and obtained some Blurays, which was a little weird after all the downloading she did back home.
By the end of it, the ballroom had been decked out with a four foot tall HD flatscreen and a lot of comfy chairs. Charlie felt a little proud and sheepish all at once; this whole thing wasn't just for her, it was about building a sense of community, helping people relax. And boy, did everyone need that after riddles and monster rampages.
[So, we had a four-way tie, so we're going to do two things now and two next month! The rest of the things on the list will come along after that. That said, the winners are:
Alice in Wonderland and Iron Man! So basically it'll be more like Movie...Afternoon and Evening, starting at 2pm with the more kid-friendly movies (this labelling is questionable) and running to about 10. There will be lots of chairs/couches and a nice big screen, plus drinks and snacks on tables. And popcorn. Lots of popcorn. If you think your character would volunteer to help move chairs and stuff down, feel free to assume they did!]
[so just hang tight until all six category threads are posted, then go wild.]

When she wanders back in the lights have already been dimmed, but she still catches sight of Clara sitting toward the back of the room. Martha quirks a smile at her as she takes a seat next to her. She's sure that Clara will be good company for something like this.]

Research.
[It's not so much offered as a reason as to why she's sitting here, but as an explanation for why she seems so narrowly focused on a children's film.]
no subject
You know, this must have come out after my time period, since I think I would have remembered a Tim Burton version of this... Have you seen it before?
no subject
[Angie especially loves anything Disney related, even if she'd never admit it. So in some way, this film reminds Clara of the girl, which helps her miss the children a bit less.]
I don't think I ever asked. What year are you from, exactly?
no subject
It would make sense to compare years, though, wouldn't it?] 2009. And you?
no subject
[She says this a bit surprised, despite the fact she's been so far forward and back in time she shouldn't be. 2009 wasn't all that long ago, not really. Her mother had already been dead for four years.]
Think this came out a year or so after your current timeline. [So there you go, Martha, here's something to look forward to. Kind of.]
no subject
You know what I'm really excited for, though? The last two Harry Potter films. [Martha breaks out into a wide smile. Because while she's read all the books now (and cried, just like the Doctor had kind of predicted), she's curious to see how the last of the movie adaptations go.]
no subject
Oh, they're brilliant. Especially the last one. You'll cry your eyes out.
no subject
It looks like the film's getting into full swing, though, and so Martha turns her attention to it a bit more. It would be silly to sit down to watch something and then not catch any of it because they're too busy chatting.]
no subject
Somehow, I'm not all that surprised. Bet he's sorted himself into a house and everything. [She sighs, as if she's talking about an impish little boy and not an alien that's over a thousand years old. She turns her attention to the screen, though, as Alice is having an important conversation with the Cheshire Cat.]
I haven't actually seen this movie so you might have to take the lead here...
That's just how the Doctor is. A contradiction hiding inside the body of a Time Lord. Or maybe all Time Lords are that way. Martha's face darkens with the thought, but she does her best to pay attention to what's on the screen.]
oh man I hardly remember it this will be awesome
I think he's here. [She finally speaks up again, glancing over at Martha.] Harry Potter. I think I spoke with him right after I first arrived.
WHAT HAVE WE DONE time for epic glossing
When Clara mentions Harry Potter being here, she turns to her and nods.] I heard. I haven't run into him myself, but I did meet a younger Remus Lupin. It's... mad, isn't it? I suppose no stranger than being in a whole place based off a book, but it feels different somehow.
WE CAN DO IT NO PROB
If people like them can be here, what does that say about who we are? [She's given this a lot of thought here recently, much to her dismay.]
no subject
I talked this over with someone else. We didn't recognize each other, so I think if we are fictional in some time or place, it must not be a very well-known one.
[Martha doesn't think it's something they need to worry over too much. She knows that she's real. She's not going to let this place make her doubt that.]
Think about it. Word travels across the galaxy, eventually the story of the Doctor and his companions becomes more like a myth. People write it down as fiction, and then... [Then reality becomes something else. But it doesn't undermine who they are in any way. What's stranger is realizing that Harry and Hermione and Ron are all real people.]
no subject
[She weakly argues, sounding more perplexed and skeptical about the whole situation than anything. She's long since stopped paying attention to the film playing, and is instead focusing upon something from her list of worries since arriving in Wonderland.]
It makes me nervous, thinking about who else from stories we know that could appear here. [There's a lot of horribly powerful beings in myths and all kinds of other books that could pop in and really do a number on everyone.]
no subject
Is there something in particular you're worried about? [Martha's belief is that they can handle anything if they dealt with the bandersnatch, but they'd only escaped that by solving the riddle. Clara hadn't been around for all of that, so it's not as if she's seen the worst that this place has to offer, either.
As much as Clara might seem uncertain, Martha's convinced she can handle it. She's a companion, it's practically written into her genetic code.]
no subject
[She's not necessarily meaning to be negative or worried about this, her mind just goes and goes and there's too much thinking all the time, to the point where things like this are valid concerns that just won't go away.]
no subject
Seeing how Lucifer is around, I can't exactly blame you for fretting about it. [Martha sighs and tries to focus on the film, but it's proving difficult. While Lucifer doesn't seem to have caused any trouble thus far, she knows that probably won't last. Then again, maybe Balthazar had worked something out, like he'd said he would try to do.]
no subject
[She's a bit stunned at that. Really. She's wide eyed, eyebrows knit together, mouth formed in a tight line. Oh, this can't be good at all. What's even worse is she didn't already know that herself. She's not as good at figuring things out and knowing things as she thought.]
no subject
Sorry, but you didn't mishear anything. It's... honestly, I didn't even think angels were real -- you know, except for Weeping Angels, and that's different -- and then they start showing up all over here. Lucifer included. As you would expect, he's a total prat, but it seems like he hasn't caused too much trouble yet. [She doesn't know how long that's going to last, though.]
no subject
Usually. But good, no trouble yet. Please tell me someone's watching him to make sure he's not stealing souls at night.
no subject
[Martha tries to pick her battles carefully when she can. Lucifer's a bit above her pay grade, but at least there are other angels around to try and keep him in line. Balthazar told her that Lucifer was far stronger than him, but hopefully they've worked out something...]
no subject
Sorry, Martha, this is going to be a bit rude but... [She reaches over to pat her friend on the arm as she hops up to stand.]
Don't think I'm in the film watching sort of mood anymore. Think I'm going to head to the library, see if there's any books on the devil.
[And how to trap him, control him, etc. etc.]
See you soon, yeah?
no subject
Martha frowns, starting to stand as well.] I'm sorry, I... do you want some help with it, then? [Not that she has any clue if the library would be able to help with any of that, but it sounds like a worthy cause and it would seem wrong to just sit around and watch the rest of the film when Clara's heading off to do some actual work.]
