Summary: It's your chance do your dance
The Story: After the culture festival wraps up on Wednesday afternoon, all students are invited to a dance in the gymnasium! There are snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic, of course!), as well as cheesy paper decorations made by the student council members.

[ there's a good variety of dancers. some that have rhythm, others that obviously don't but are enjoying themselves anyway, and those that fall somewhere in the middle. Percy thinks he's personally in the last category when it comes to slow dancing and he falls in the middle with everything else. oh well. he's not that guy. it doesn't matter that he doesn't have the skills. yeah, he's here to impress Nico but he thinks that includes not caring what other people think because it's only the two of them. that's all he has eyes for. he's already made the rounds and said hello to his friends.

he's on a date, so there's really only one person he's interested in socializing with over the duration of their evening.

it's strictly a coincidence that the music slows down to something he can keep with as they find a spot and get ready. he places a hand on Nico's waist and presents him with an open palm, not for the first time. ]

Alright, fair point. [ he grabs a chip and pops it into his mouth to prove it. there's all kinds of goodies though. sweet, salty, healthy, you name it. it's probably on the table somewhere. he nods at Frank and glances across the floor to see if he can see Nico from where they're standing ( he can't ). ]

Yeah. I finally worked up the nerve to ask Nico out. [ they're close enough that he feels like he can share that. ] What about you?

[ with parents as proper as his and Hazel's, it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that they were put through the motions of a diverse education. dance lessons? of course. music tutoring? absolutely. so while it's easy enough for him to place his hand in Percy's, Nico has the knowledge ahead of time that he is absolutely miserable at dance.

so for as much as he commented on the lame shuffle between people before, he may not be any good at doing anything much outside of his own version of that. still, the idea of dancing with Percy -- as awful as Nico may be at it -- is one that he's more than willing to indulge.

Nico steps just a touch closer so he'll be able to fall into step with him, resting his free hand on Percy's shoulder. ]

Fair warning that I'm horrible at this.

That's okay, so am I. [ he shrugs under Nico's hand and puts an end to it. he's not any better. he's already trying to count in his head and figure out the music to match with his steps when he takes the first one and tries not to look up at the ceiling to make it obvious that he's focusing really hard. all that practice in the mirror and with another friend and he's still probably going to mess this up by bumping into another couple or stomping on Nico's foot. ] You can't be perfect at everything.

He sneezes again. "Oh... Yes, we don't want to be caught."

"Beautiful and intelligent. A dangerous combination. And apparently sneaky. How have you seen my grades? You're going to tarnish my badboy reputation." Despite his words, he was smiling with amusement.

He either missed her blush or had the decency not to call attention to it no matter how lovely it had been. But as they settled on the dance floor, the music changed and he took her other hand, easily adjusting to the change. Loki took the lead, lowering his voice so it wasn't too intrusive. "How many hearts have you broken this year, Tasha?"

[ Not the best of comparisons, really, but that's not even what ticks Bruce off. Blake's voice is becoming steadily more annoying to hear, especially with the words he says, and Bruce's hands close into fists even without him realizing. ]

Hey, I'm not the one who's being stupid. [ Never mind he could've just walked away on this even before it started. He steps closer now, thoughtlessly so, and jabs a finger into Blake's shoulder as he had done to Bruce not so long ago. ] And you need to learn how to treat people better, you little shit.

Oh, hey. [Frank was actually not really looking around, either when he almost bumps into Nico, but at least he wasn't carrying any punch. He doesn't seem bothered by it, he actually just looks amused.]

Don't worry about it, I don't actually expect to end the day without punch all over my suit. I'm pretty clumsy.

Have you lost Percy?

"Don't worry, I don't tell secrets. Even my own," she countered with a sly quirk of her lips as she settles her hand in his, letting him take the lead and comfortable to follow. Still, at his question, she arched an eyebrow and attempted to look innocent. "Who, me? Why? Are you thinking of volunteering to be next in line?"

Ahh, but I'm not a stranger. I'm Simon.

[ He points this out with a cheerful grin and playfully gives a flourished bow in front of her. ]

And you're Lydia Martin. See? Completely not strangers.

Dancing? [ He arches an eyebrow at this, looking a little surprised at her excuse, but not intending to let it go as easily as all that. ] I suppose it is, maybe. But it's also fun. And there's a heck of a lot of people already out there embarrassing themselves.

[ Some of them quite spectacularly, actually. He jerks a thumb to indicate the mass of their classmates - most of whom have plenty of clumsy movements. ]

Come on, come give it a try. What's the harm? If it makes you feel better, I can promise to dance very badly just so you look really good. Not that I don't think you're perfectly capable of it anyway. I've seen you move on the field.

"I doubt very much that will happen." Considering there weren't any TV cameras around them and most people would probably find other ways to keep themselves entertained. "Although sometimes, people can get carried away in situations like this." Which probably wasn't helping but she wanted to keep him aware of the possibility.

Bela sipped from her punch (it didn't taste spiked so maybe it was only a rumour) and looked around the room, trying to spot Evelyn without giving Will an inkling of what she was up to.

"Would you like a dance after we've finished our punch?" It was part of the reason why they were here and it would give him good practice for any future dances. "It'll be fun."

[He smiles at her, nudging her side a bit.] Your brother could have done a lot worse.

But I'm surprised you came here alone?

"Not for you though." Bela can tell by the expression on his face and the confidence in his voice. "So, what are your classmates like?" She asks, beginning to dance to the song- it has an up tempo beat.

"Good to know." Loki could appreciate the secrecy, even if it denied him an answer. Her craftiness was impressive. However, he didn't draw her in too close. It was a slow dance, which made it intimate enough already, but she had a date, therefore was taken, so he kept their distance respectful. Most people, he wouldn't be above trying to romance away from their dates, but his respect for Natasha kept him in line.

"Nope. It was an innocent question. Damage control, you know? Just want to know who I should avoid until they've glued their shattered hearts back together. They're no fun when they're moping."

Scott was taking a break from watching Stiles wiggle around like a windsock in a hurricane. The boy really needed to learn some moves, man... but he wouldn't dwell on that. He'd gone to the punch bowl and spotted a lonely kid in the corner. He was pretty sure Armin was older, but a lonely kid at a dance was still lonely, right?

The dark haired boy came up next to him, trying to follow his gaze to the dance floor before sipping his punch awkwardly. "Hey. Don't have a date either, huh?"

[ Fuck if Johnny's going to let himself get pushed around. Banner's probably not the type he's generally butting heads with, but dynamics change every day around the school and there's no way Blake's going to get steamrolled.

He puts force into a hard shove, aiming to get Bruce backed into a wall. ]

“I’m not being grouchy.” He denies. Even though he really, really is. He’s just being protective of his sister. That’s his job: to protect his sisters.

He considers for a moment. “No, never mind. I’m going to go growl threateningly at whoever goes near Rach.” Not that too many people will be with that supposed dancing she’s doing. “You going to be alright?”

[She grinned, instinctively nudging back. It felt like the right thing to do.]

Thanks. Picked it out myself. [ He even preens a little because he's obvious so cool if he's getting a compliment from Brittany. ] So, you wanna dance, right? You know... with me.

Really? [He sounds more glad than surprised. Percy is one of the bravest kids Frank knows, so he's sure even if Percy might have hesitated a bit, he still likes jumping to the pool and seeing what happens.]

Nah, you know me. Too awkward to ask unless I'm really deep into it. But how are things going with your man? Having fun?

[Despite her Popular Girl status, Brittany tended to be open with her compliments. Which wasn't to say she would hand them out for no reason. She needed a reason. She was usually just really good at finding one of those.]

No, of course not. I came on my own as well.

I just... well. I guess I figured a girl like you would have come with like 10 suitors.

[She didn't blush at that. Nope. There was no redness to her cheeks that didn't come from the light dusting of makeup she wore. And her face definitely didn't feel any hotter than it did from the slight warmness to the room.]
